it's like watching 2 different teams... what happened in the 2nd half.
Does anyone know who actually called most of the plays in the 2nd half?

what happens to the aggressive play calling in the 2nd half... seems like every game we pull out ahead and then decide to slow down....honestly with the players we have on O... score should have been 50 something in the first half...

Does he simply run out of plays?
or does BK tell him to be more conservative...

Every game it's like this.

Coach Denbrock is the main play caller this year with Coach Sanford making suggestions. If Coach Denbrock should decide to take a HC job then Coach Sanford becomes the full time play caller next season according to Coach Kelly. Coach Kelly is still spending most of his time in the defensive room installing his defense. I hope that he gets back into the offense soon. The offense hasn't been the same since VanGorder was fired and Coach Kelly moved to the defense.

Miami has a lot of very good players on defense. NFL material. The offense scoring thirty on the canes was satisfactory. We should put up about sixty on Navy. The Irish are going to win some games now that BVG is gone.

I don't know about Navy. Like Alabama and Oklahoma in the early 70's, Navy has developed a vertical passing game this season. They have evolved and now have broken the bone; an old Chris Schenkel and Frank Broyles expression from back in the day. It's going to be a fun game to watch but I expect an Irish win. They don't have the athletes like those teams did back then.

Bodie, you are wrong here we should scored 20 more and given up 20 less.

Ara is correct. Mike Denbrock calls the plays, even more so now that BK is more involved with the defense. But, with that said, BK probably still has his fingerprints on the offense also.

For me this is the main issue that is holding Kelly back from being a great coach, he does not know how to put his stamp on all aspects of the team without being involved in the finer details of offense, defense, special teams, etc. His involvement at this level makes the other coaches tentative as they wait for his approval. This approach even translated down to his former DC as it appears as if everything had to be done his way.
It is hard to believe that Coach Kelly is still doing this after all of these years as a head coach. At his other schools he could do this but unfortunately the outside demands of being the ND head coach does not afford him this luxury. This is why Saban is soooo good, as exemplified by how he has handled Kiffin.

The opposing teams make adjustments at halftime to counter our successful early efforts. The offense seems to assume it can keep running the same plays even though the defense has adjusted to counter them.

I would think a top-notch offensive staff would know what the defensive adjustments would likely be (based on film study of the opponent) and be prepared to counter with a successful strategy against the new defensive alignment. But what do I know...
