This team will be sneaky tough!

NC State's a solid team, but a win against them won't be signature win for anybody.
What??? You just said that they could very likely come in to South Bend 7-0. That would make beating them a signature win.

I think if you prodded Duo, he'd tell you that he thinks FSU will win that game. If you think NC State will win, more power to you. I'll even acknowledge your sagacity if that turns out to be the case. Heck, if they beat FSU and then lose to ND, that will boost ND's SOS.

I am prodding Duo. I know he's just trying to pump up NC State as a future FSU opponent.

Whenever I think of FSU, I think of Bill Petersen, who was the wacky head coach before Bobby Bowden. He once uttered this quote, which even Yogi Berra couldn't top.

You guys line up alphabetically by height.

Bill Peterson

Bill Peterson was a brilliant football coach (as acknowledged by Bear Bryant). Everybody loved him and he was one of the funniest guys you would ever meet. Sometimes on the practice field players would be laughing so hard they could hardly concentrate. Going to practice with Bill on the field was one of life's great experiences. :)

For a good laugh pull up "Bill Peterson quotes".:D

Believe me, I know a lot about Bill Petersen. He was a very funny guy, sometimes intentionally so.

Shades of PJD8338!

That quote was the sig on his posts for many years.

He was one interesting FSU poster.
I remember PJ well. He thought he had a good point about teasing ND for playing Iowa Pre-Flight, oblivious to that team having an alltime record of 26-5 and twice finishing in the AP top 10.

Think the "stiff" stuff was just his shtick.
Exchanged emails with him a while back, he didn't think he'd be making the trip to the Bend next year for the FSU game.

Have no idea about his ulterior motives, but his theme about ND playing creampuffs was ridiculously and aggressively advanced. I liked teasing him about his crafted image as the ultimate Southerner despite being born in upstate New York. ;)

Re: " Keep in mind NC State went into the game as the underdog and nearly beat FSU last year."

Excellent point! And they are even better this year!
As if the previous season has anything to do with the upcoming one...

NC State nearly beat both Clemson and FSU last year and they return 22 seniors to a much improved team this year. So yes, last year's performance is quite relevant. Their defense is being touted by the media talking heads this year as one of the tops in the entire country. They should not be overlooked.

NCST is not even ranked in pre-season Top 25 in some polls and barely squeaks in in a few others. They have starters returning from a six loss season and that is true. To put the 2016 season in perspective, The Pack lost to a nine loss East Carolina team, a signature win over Old Dominion, a gift from Brian Kelly on their own home field, Louisville abused the Pack....enough said, a loss to a six loss BC team, and a bowl win over a seven loss Vandy team. NCST is no different than Temple, Navy, or WF. Every opponent needs to be taken seriously.

Projection is subjective.

These preseason forecasts about the looming greatness or mediocrity of NC State will be interesting to review come December. I'm putting my glorious reputation on the line and going with mediocrity, although I'll be rooting for them against FSU.

Everything is not equal one season to the next.

It will be truly interesting if NC State some how manages a win over ND since they have been referred to as "no different than Temple, Navy, or WF". LOL!

Anyway, now we will all have fun watching this game no matter who wins! Gotta love CFB! :D

It was the great ESPN announcer, Joe Tess, who proclaimed gleefully that "Texas is back" after they squeaked out a win, at home, against ND. The Longhorns went on to 5-7 glory with "Texas is back" losses to 5-7 Cal, 2-10 Kansas, and 6-7 TCU, so, we can eliminate Tess as a college football forecaster of any repute......forever.
