The Independence advantage for the Irish: Deep inside the Human psyche.

I believe the Irish have a great team but they also have an advantage that conference teams don't have.
In the USC game--- USC basically quit in the fourth quarter. They would have lost anyway but they were all thinking in the deep corners of their minds that "Hey lets not get hurt and we still can win the Pac12 and sieze that Glory.
Same thing with North Carolina State---those supposedly great NFL Dlineman might have turned it down a notch near the 4th quarter because they were thinking that "Hey we can still win the ACC and grab glory".

*** Also the conference championships cause one more loss for potential playoff teams and potential injuries while the Irish will be hitting the weight room and taking ice baths getting stronger for the playoffs.

*** All the Irish have is making the playoffs and winning National Championships. Nothing else.

Kind of what Kelly means when he says we have no conference championship to play for...only the N C and we’re in single elimination ever since we lost to Georgia. I hadn’t thought to apply this to end of game effort by those with conf championship aspirations. I like to think our offensive line just physically wore down USC and NCST, but either way, there was some quit in both games.

You are right as usual Telx my friend. But like in the days of Rockne the Irish are becoming trend setters. After the Irish win back to back National Championships many teams will leave the conference coffins and become independent.

Damn, that would be an incredible revolution of sorts. The big shot deal making influence peddling Conference presidents would have heart attacks watching their money generating fiefdoms crumble, and the networks would be scrambling like rats on a ship, while the new found Freedom loving independents would be cutting deals with the likes of Hulu.
