Since 2014 ND has received commitments from only two Rivals 5 star recruits

One thing that I hold as the most important thing in this situation is the players' personal accountability. (In life too, not just sports).

People love to blame everybody for everything. Has there been problems with recruiting, coaching, strategy? Of course there has. But people overlook the players' role in all of this in wins/losses/program.

4-8 last year to me was preseason guns & drugs. Players arguing with fans on Twitter. Players more worried about draft status than W/L. Players getting butt hurt because they were "blah blah blah in HS" but lost out in a position battle so they are taking their ball and going home. That's 4-8 behavior. These same players went 10-2 the year before with a billion injuries because they had the correct attitude, which was us (a team) against the world.

Look at Teo. He was all world coming out of HS. The defense was ignored under Weis, then he butted heads with Kelly at first. He could have packed it up & ND would have suffered for years. Instead he kept his mouth shut, worked hard, took the criticism, & LEAD an average team to #1 ranking & title game appearance. And hugged Kelly & told him he loved him in the Coliseum tunnel after the USC game. That is winner behavior.

I want a team of accountable players who look at what they can do better, not point the finger at everybody else. If that is the case & we still lose a lot, then it's a talent concern. But we have talent, they just need to show it.

Are you really that dim witted, that you need special expkanation?

go away.

Ah, the old "expkanation" and "go away" defense.....very convincing.

Yes, I'll need a special "expkanation" of how every single 5* talent is ranked as a 5* prospect on rivals.....and be prepared for the avalanche of counter examples

Lack of consistent Top Defensive Line talent is a problem....especially when early season injuries deplete the ranks.

It's 2017 and despite all the evidence to the contrary there are STILL people trying to make arguments diminishing the importance of recruiting-rankings? o_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

And Clemson has more 5 star recruits in their last 3 classes than Brian Kelly's landed in his entire tenure.

And yet Kelly's classes have overall been slightly better than Clemsons. so you once again show no ability to recognize logic at all. 5 stars at one site does not mean all that much.

Tommy,
I was never a big Kelly fan, but I really go into this season with high hopes. I really think that
If Wimbush stays healthy, and with our running backs, I see us really having a great year offensively.
Looking forward to a great season !
You might be on to something here - certainly hope so.

2012's team was populated with several Weis recruits.
2013 was Kelly best recruiting class.
consider that of the commits rated 5.9 or higher (11) only Jaylon Smith would have been considered as 'outstanding'; and Rochelle the only other regular starter for more than 1 season.
7 left the team prior to exhausting eligibility of their own volition and one was removed from the team.
Of the balance of the commits only M McGlinchey achieved 'star' status (and that may be more on projected pro potential than actual performance).
And that was the best class to date.

Classes need elite players. A class can be rated highly but lack playmakers.
Since 2014 Clemson has out recruited ND for elites (RR 6.0 or >) by 2:1
Clemsons elite players performed as elite players.
(how did that most recent 10 win season end?)
2015: ND played 3 teams that finished in the top 15 and lost all 3 games
2015: ND beat only 1 team in top 20.
