Rudy now a Morman...

I agree with others that the Mormons I have meet are good and decent people. But I have no interest in joining their faith.

Theologically - very different ends of the spectrum.

my looking into it is that the theology is not different but the hierarchy structure is different. Mormons are very structured in heirarchy whereas Amish are congregational and no central controling organization.

Also, annually, we vacation in Siesta Key Fl. and they have an Amish invasion; the guys/men must work out 24/7! they all look like MLB's.

You are right, Re: organizational structure - VERY different

Theology - superficially they may appear similar, but when you look closely, VERY different.

Amish 'doctrines' would be based solely on theological teachings, doctrines and practices found exclusively in the Bible (some would argue to an extreme).

LDS (Mormon) beliefs/doctrines, practices would - by christian fundamentalists - be considered an 'aberrant' theology whose teachings and practices are based much more on 'The Book of Mormon' and only superficially on the doctrines/teachings in the Bible.

These significant differences in Essential doctrines of the Christian Faith are why the LDS Church would be listed among the"Christian Cults" and the Amish would not. (refer to: (http://www.apologeticsindex.org/2765-cult-of-christianity).

You can also refer to a 'Comparison Chart' of fundamental Christianity vs various 'cult' beliefs and practices etc. - within this chart the Amish would fall under 'Christianity'.

Very Good, BGI Canada !
When I lived back East, We made many trips to the Amish Country. They go strictly by the bible ,
live a very simple life, no electricy, mechanical equiptment, etc. They all wear the same type of dress and other clothing, and speak a type of German that is centries old and not pure German.
They work very hard, help one other, and are complete passivists !
Judging from the outside looking in, the Amish seem to lead a very and ideal Christian life !

^^^^^^^^^^Off topic but for the record, the above poster claimed that he knew back in 2009 that Jack Swarbrick should have hired either James Franklin (at that time an assistant at Maryland), Mike McIntyre (at that time an assistant at Duke), or David Shaw (at that time an assistant at Stanford) to be ND's head coach. So take whatever nonsense he says within the context of that information.
