Leaving OSU to become OC of the Raiders under Pete Carroll. Interesting move. I guess all that money OSU has wasn't enough to keep him in college football. At 61 I wouldn't think he is trying to jockey for an NFL head coaching job somewhere; maybe he just prefers the NFL game, where you don't have all the side distractions (recruiting, and now NIL and the portal) that come with college ball. I wonder how OSU fans feel about the move. Ryan Day has developed more of a reputation on the offensive side of the ball, so maybe it won't be a big hit. I guess he probably goes back to play calling.

OSU wins a national championship and then loses both its DC and OC. What does that say?

Product of the success they had.

No surprise; most coaches want to be in the NFL. Some are quite happy in the college ranks.

I doubt there was much room to give out raises following a 38 million dollar deficit for 2024.

They were very successful on both sides of the ball and kicked ass ?

What does that say? Nothing different than Al Golden going to the Bengals as DC, and OL coach Joe Rudolph being interviewed for the same position by the Chicago Bears.

Successful programs get raided.

The NFL is an attractive monster.

What? OSU is not doing everything it can to win a NC again? Cmon, open the vault for him!

Amirite, @chass?

Also they grew up where there was not much college football as a part of life. CFB was only a minor league to the NFL. And also, they were in the next town over from me.

What is going at OSU? Not retaining their coaches? Amateur hour….
I'm assuming this is humor. Look back and NC teams have routinely lose top assistants, I also read that DC Knowles and OC Kelly will be the highest paid coordinators in CF and NFL history with Kelly getting an insane $6 million / year

Go back and look at all of the Alabama-Saban assistants that left after NCs and are now HCs. It's crazy

Rudolph never interviewed with the Bears...they never even called to request a meeting.

Yes. Well stated. And Notre Dame is obviously not immune to this.

I will be surprised if either Kelly or Knowles ever become HCs anywhere. That ship has sailed for Kelly and I am not sure Knowles is HC material.

I understand why Kelly left for the Raiders. He apparently just wanted to go back to the NFL, for reasons others here have already expressed. We saw the same thing with Al Golden, though maybe Golden's situation also had a lot to do with his home being in Cincinnati.

But I find the Knowles situation to be puzzling. No flame here, just curious why he took what seems to be a lateral move at best to a program that doesn't have the same cachet as OSU. Was it money? Was there something going on between Day and Knowles? Or was it something else?
