Riley better not be starting next week.

LSU had better players than ND. Particularly QB and receivers. Denbrock did a better job with them than he is apparently here at ND with a less capable QB and receivers.

And even so, BK and Denbrock lost in big games. Last week BK lost to USC. But here we're talking Marshall, Stanford, and NI...where the talent gap is really wide.

I believe a better coach would not lose those games. Sure players bear some responsibility. But coaches adjust. As did Al Golden and the D, managing an emotional let up after a big win vs TAMU...producing a solid enough performance good enough to win if Denbrock did the same. Ditto for MF, who bears ultimate responsibility.

BTW: I just listened to his press conference. I like the guy, but he's rattled and was rambling. Spoke in generalities, although I'm not sure how much the could or should share on specifics. But he didn't seem confident about what to do going forward to fix the problem.
I don't think Freeman is more than an average coach, if that. I also think Denbrock can do well with the right players. When he was OC at ND in 2014, the team started out well before the stupid losses and Golson's interception rate went viral.

As for LSU, any team that wins 9 or 10 games in the SEC is carrying its weight. Kelly will need a kind of 2012 or 2018 season to go all the way there while playing that level of competition.

But then what does he have to lose? A lot more money in return for hurdles -- albeit different -- as challenging as he faced at ND.

But then, that's Kelly, who's arrogant enough to think he can do it. And, frankly, I hope he does.

As for Freeman's presser, that was an EMBARRASSED MAN. I felt really bad for him, but I thought he was remarkably honest and took full repsonsibility. I can see why people like him. But then, character is only PART of the job.

He was thrown into the fire too soon. He wasn't ready. In fact, it may be TOO MUCH JOB for him.

I used terms like seems. Cueing a discussion to find out, if possible, the reality. Makes sense, right?

I also recall BK making play calls. MF seems he doesn't. Leaving it all to others, not that this is uncommon...but some coaches do intervene from time to time. Like Saban.
Marcus is good at holding up a finger to go for 1 after a touchdown. Other than that he is a wooden Indian on the sidelines and better suited to be a cheerleader

I will never watch another game of the Freeman era if Riley is the starting QB on Saturday. I won't be the only one. The team deserves better. The recruits deserve better. The alums deserve better. The fans deserve better.

What a joke.

How do you know?
Because he's shown to have a better arm. Say all you want about Leonard having more experience. He had one good season at Duke against a weak schedule. He played like crap against Northern Illinois. NORTHERN ILLINOIS!!!

I know I know, Angeli has only played against 2nd team defenses. Well, those 2nd team defenses are more talented than the Northern Illinois defense.

Angeli has a 77% completion percentage, He's got 7 TD's to 1 INT, his QBR is 96.4, his average passing yards is 11.5 yards per pass, and he averages 3.4 yards per carry in the limited time he's played. He's done nothing but PRODUCE.

Riley Leonard has a 61.8% completion percentage, 24 TD's to 12 INT's, his average passing yards is 7.0 yards per pass, and he averages 5.2 yards per carry.
Through 2 Games at ND Leonard has a 61.2% completion percentage, 0 TD's, 2 INT's, his QBR is 46.6, average passing yards is 5.2 yards per pass, and he's averaging 3.4 yards per carry.

It's clear, Angeli is more accurate, has a stronger arm, and makes less mistakes.

Like I said before. When we get into these games when our offense is stagnant , why can’t we give the backup just 1 series to see if he can ignite the offense.

Saban did it last year with Milroe struggling, and it lit a fire under Milroe. Great coaches do it. He went back in and took the starting job back.

That’s the difference between coaching and cheerleading!

I don’t believe Angeli has a better arm and he’s not as dangerous on the ground by a fairly decent margin though he’s actually somewhat similar in terms of body type.

Angeli has one game of experience. Leonard has 29 now I believe. Lots of people are upset about not throwing downfield (not me), and Angeli mostly threw the quick game against Oregon State. He had one inaccurate throw on a corner route to the TE. A debatable throw over the deep middle, and then a layup on a coverage bust by Oregon State.

Pretty much everything else over the 2023 year was quick game and checkdowns, but now you’re assuming that Angeli can do that when we don’t know that and haven’t seen it.

Every QB is bound to have a bad game like Caleb Williams did against ND last year. It happens. I also am not convinced that Leonard had a bad game just going off of the live viewing. What’s more concerning to me is the lack of being on the same page with receivers. That’s a decent indicator of being poorly coached…how often there are assignment busts.

I thought it was interesting that even with RL showing potential injury to his arm, no backup QB was doing any warming up. Who would it be if someone was needed? We don't know.

After hearing the press conference. I’d say Leonard is definitely starting.

Again. Can’t give angelli one series. ??

I think if Leonard struggles, Freeman sends someone else in. If Freeman doesn't, and he's willing to die on the Leonard sword, the NIL collective could be making those decisions.

There's a pretty good sample size from Angeli. He's not brand new to the program.

He was outstanding vs Oregon State.
Almost all short passing where the ball was out quick. One game is not a good sample size IMO and he only dropped back like 21 times. Leonard had 27 games prior to this season.

It can’t be known that Angeli wins. It’s just conjecture. It is not a guarantee that Caleb Williams wins the game even as he too is capable of a bad game or making a really bad play.
