While the spring buzz here is irrelevant to who will play in September, it’s good news none the less. Conflict is what we wanted. It’s what they need to advance. The best thing for TB is Hartman and best thing for Hartman is Buchner. The guys who didn’t want Hartman to come in don’t understand high level competition and the need to be pushed.
Horka just said it’s not that Buchner looks better than usual it’s that Hartman just isn’t playing well at all. He also thinks Hartman will win the job. That’s not something to get excited from my view. Buchner should be way better than he is imo.
Carr is the future. He’s the only player with starting NFL talent. We need to get through the next year or two with what we have before the big gun gets to town. Until then, we probably just have Pyne 2.0 vs the same old Buchner.
There’s also this: there’s too much reading into individual practices. Either way, Freeman clearly felt he couldn’t win with Buchner so he went out and got someone without much NFL potential to beat out a guy he doesn’t believe in.

Glowing? You should hear the guys over at on3. to summarize, and I’ll be sympathetic to Hartman, it’s not that Buchner is playing that great but Hartman is puking on himself. Listen to Singers podcast
Right. Buchner is not improved at all. Hartman looks like ballz. Maybe a funk, maybe not. Angeli is apparently improving more than anyone.
He didn’t exactly say that. I believe what he said was that Pyne outplayed Hartman vs “ some” acc teams. Hyde added that Hartman only completed 70% of his passes twice in last two years and didn’t play particularly well vs better acc teams. Hyde has said many times he thinks the acc is a shit conference and he’s not wrong about that
Singer called him out and said fine, Hyde says Pyne is better than Hartman. Hyde didn’t deny it.
It’s still early and a skilled 6th yr qb will hopefully figure things out by August. But good on Buckner for making it a competition. And as for Parker situation, I sure hope he has a clue
Everyone chooses who they believe. ill say that I think Hyde is horrible, at just about everything. Just nails on a chalkboard to me. Horka says what he sees and is reliable imho at relaying what he sees, but his analysis of what he sees is often overly critical. Having said that I think Sean at LL is overly positive, but I also value what he sees as well.

Agree. I typically don't read too much into what they have to say completely. But like you said, I think Hyde is horrible and Horka gives good recaps of what he saw.
I hope horka’s recaps are not so good recently. This morning he’s pretty negative on Parker hire , freeman inexperience and prospects on offense improving over next 4 mos. Pretty damn negative comments , more negative then Hyde

The issue with horka is his lense. He's media not a coach. Never been behind the scenes.
That's why I am ok with his observations, but his opinions are often nonsense.
I just wonder if Hartman will transfer, if TB does beat him out fair and square. Especially if the reason is, one might surmise, the reason for SH's struggles is this shitty, and different, new ND offense with Rees gone.... and which is something that SH absolutely did not sign up for, and was not at all what he thought the program and the situation he was transferring into was going to be.
It's not too late I wouldn't think for him to find a new team over the summer. If it were me I would seriously consider it if I gotten beaten out by TB, especially under these unexpectedly inauspicious circumstances.....

Sounds like Hartman is a lot of timing. I really do hope buchner significantly improves.
Sounds like WRs dropping a lot of balls as well. I guess that's what you get when half your WR room hasn't played much if at all in college games, and your most experienced WR had the drops last year.
No chance, or close to zero. he’ll end up at a mid major if he expects to start in the fall. What high profile program ( comparable to nd), is he going to go to where he immediately jumps to the front of the depth chart while missing their spring ball?
Remember, he arrived in SB in January and has now spent 3.5 mos learning our system, working with coaches. He’s probably not attending classes as a grad transfer so has been singularly focused on film, practice, culture , working with new coaches. He did get a bit hosed with TR moving on but a risk he must have been aware of. still see him as the starter in Ireland
I don't really know who would want him. I just know players don't stick around anymore if they don't think they're going to play. And they have the means to transfer, and it's socially acceptable, and everyone does it. It's not some extreme, radical choice to make.
Admittedly, I would be surprised as well and would guess he wouldn't transfer regardless. But think about it for a second. If you've lost the starting job, and TB is the guy coming out of spring, and you're SH and you're the all-time leading this and that in the ACC and five-year starter and proven high-quality QB, and you're staring at the prospect of sitting on the bench for you entire extra year, and putting a huge crimp in any NFL aspirations you might have..... Even if that meant going to a mid-major, I could see it. And I wouldn't fault him for it. He does have an excuse, this is an all-new offense, and new OC and QB coach. It's not what he signed up for.
Anyway, I wouldn't be completely shocked if that's how it played out, because it seems like TB is potentially pulling ahead. Which is fine, I consider TB a pretty major talent. But SH was brought in start, and I would guess that was/is his thinking. So we'll see how it goes....
I guess I am inclined these days to look at the glass half empty. So that's true. Nevertheless, I was just making conversation. And there's nothing utterly absurd about the scenario I described. Unlikely, but hardly preposterous. You being the paranoiac you are ot only would get it into your conspiracy-addled brain that I'm possibly a 3rd or 4th account of this boards most obvious and obnoxious troll, but you would also be wont to treat the eyebrow-raising possibility of SH skipping out for greener pastures after the rug sort of got pulled out from under him, as I quite plausibly laid out, as not worthy of even your lowly consideration.....
Anyways, he probably wouldn't transfer. Just because of the logistics if nothing else. But he certainly might end up regretting ever having come to ND in the first place.....
Amazing that this is the 3rd year in a row ND has no returning experienced QB. If Buchner doesn't win the starting job this year, I'd bet the walkon will start more games at QB in his career than TB. The walkon (Dylan?) #16 as a true freshman is the biggest guy in the room. He ran track in HS and they removed a legacy guy to make room for him, either at the behest of the new OC or the new QB coach. TB is playing for his life at ND. I wish him well.
If he’s already been paid his nil money then I could see it. But remember he was paid a pant load to come here so I don’t think he wants to forfeit that. And I’m sure freeman will do everything he can to keep him or it could be pretty embarrassing.
Be patient, someday the guys at IB will explain it to you and you'll know what to think.
