This group appears to be the most balanced that we have seen in a while....Depth? Remains to be seen. But it is quite the interesting assembly. We have scramblers...drop back quick strikers...deep throwers....I don't recall a combination like this in some years. I think this group gives ND competition at the quarterback spot....that is needed. Earn it. Whoever the starter is...we as fans can have some confidence that the backups are not a mile away from taking over. As long as the offense is prepared to switch off when changes happen under center....the sky is the limit.

If Sam Hartman doesn’t come to ND and Drew Pyne stays at ND do you still feel the same?

I feel that the room would have been really strong if Pyne had stayed. I think Buchner is/was going to be a really good quarterback this year. If Pyne had returned he would have been an excellent #2 and Angeli is a big strong armed kid with another season under his belt. I worry that we won’t get the the same Hartman that excelled at Wake. I worry that the learning curve and adjustment to a new offense when his was so different will take some of the shine off of his actual on field play.

Drink more, worry less

Could be. I would say, the x-factor, as far as the QB position and who ends up playing, is how good TB might be. Which is to say, I think SH would be really good for us, even if it was a situation where he was totally unchallenged, and say Pyne was his only competition. Even if that included not being as prolific as he was at Wake. But if you combine that, and there's any step back for him, because of a new offense to learn, or whatever it is, with TB making a big leap forward and coming into his own, well then you've got a situation. And I think TB's talented enough to quite possibly make that happen.

Plus I could see, and maybe this might be a change moving forward, more platooning at the QB position, so as to avoid transfers from younger QBs who might otherwise feel abandoned and left out. Even if coaches would still prefer to have their guy, or a #1 starter, and put everything into him.

Body language says a lot. Buchner is willingly always behind Hartman. Just something I’ve seen in more than 1 pic. Hartman has the swag.

Not to mention a HUGE DIFFERENCE at WR (nearly double the amount of WRs with young Kaleb Smith coming!) That is double the amount of eligible WRs.

Last Year:
  • Braden Lenzy
  • Joe Wilkins (injured)
  • Avery Davis (injured)
  • Lorenzo Styles
  • Deion Colzie
  • Jayden Thomas
  • Matt Salerno
This Year:
  • Kaleb Smith
  • Deion Colzie
  • Jayden Thomas
  • Lorenzo Styles
  • Matt Salerno
  • Tobias Merriweather
  • Braylon James
  • Rico Flores
  • Jaden Greathouse

Hartman apparently stinks in spring practice according to Singer and is just Drew Pyne. If this is true it’s a big coaching problem. Gino and Parker suck. They also think Buchner isn’t very good. So, when do we get to stop blaming players for all of NDs issues?

Post a link where this was said

I just wonder what the offense is going to be like. If I was Sam Hartman, and MF has totally overhauled the offense without Rees to a vintage Wisky 2010s-era plodding, play-action style attack.... I would totally bolt. Or be willing to consider it. It was not what he signed up for at all. And it could deal his career, and whatever pro prospects he still might be trying to nurture, a serious blow. If ND switched to some sorry-ass backwards looking offense that was a total paradigm shift to everything he had known up to that point in his college career, and he understandably struggled and took a big step backwards....

So, hopefully that doesn't happen....

it is spring with the new OC! everyone s/b struggling. it ain’t that easy!

The all time ACC leader should not be struggling. Buchner should not be struggling. Both are coaching issues.
1. Buchner isn't struggling. He's improved his throwing touch and strength considerably by all accounts.
2. Hartman isn't struggling. He has to learn to come from under center, but realistically that's like 15% of our offense. That's it. Everything else has been glowing.

Like most things in your life it's like you choose the source that most closely meets the needs of your personal bias and insert that as a source of importance to justify your opinion.

That's a sad place to live.

Spoken like an expert hypocrite. Aren’t you supposed to be out lobbying against women or something?

Hartman is how much older? That few years makes a big difference at that age.

I don't think the current coaches can be blamed if SH has technique problems.
Go like Woke.
The thread seems to have disappeared. A shame as it was one of the few intelligent discussions on the topic that I have found on an open forum.

Buchner had a real good day today from reports
Says Horka and the On3 bozzos. Their reason, he thre the ball deep and over receivers heads a lot, but that’s progress since he took chances. IB keeps talking about Hartman being a Heisman contender. Both are likely overrated.
