There were reports that Golson was supposed to announce where he would transfer today ... but upon further review, it looks like the timetable might be set back. Here's the story from ESPN:
Last week, Golson visited Florida State, Florida and Georgia in consecutive days. Alabama also wants Golson, a source told ESPN. Those schools, along with South Carolina, UCLA and LSU, were among 10 to 12 schools that Golson provided to Notre Dame's compliance office as a possible landing spot for the transfer, a source said.
Florida State is considered the "front-runner" to land Golson, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad.
SEC sources told ESPN.com's Chris Low they were skeptical SEC commissioner Mike Slive or commissioner-elect Greg Sankey would grant Golson the waiver needed to attend an SEC school because he didn't meet all of that conference's graduate-transfer rules.
Florida State has been mentioned as the "most likely" landing spot for Golson. Last week at the ACC spring meetings, Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher even discussed the possibility of adding him.
"I'm not making a decision, [he is]," Fisher said. "Then we'll talk and go through it. He's a great young man and I really enjoyed meeting him [on May 11]."
Fisher said he wasn't concerned about how the addition of Golson would impact the team's chemistry. Junior Sean Maguire, who started last year against Clemson, was inconsistent in the spring game but was the clear-cut leader to replace Jameis Winston as FSU's starter.
"You be honest and up front with everybody," Fisher said. "You have to communicate with everyone. We'll do what we think is best, we have to do what is best for the team to be successful."
Former FSU coach Bobby Bowden, on Sirius XM College last week, said adding Golson could hurt the team's chemistry.
"If you're bringing [Golson] in, you're showing no confidence in your other quarterbacks," Bowden said.
Fisher said he has not promised Golson the starting position.
"We never tell a guy he'll be the starter," Fisher said. "It's a competition no matter what. Let him earn his way through it."
