I know we’ll miss his 3rd and short yardage runs, but I know I’m going to miss his backfield pass blocking. Thought he was our best back picking up the blitz or pressure on obvious pass plays. Expected to see him on the field a bit more this year. A real warrior by all accounts. That sucks. He's a good player and looked good in the spring game. Tough break for him, I think that's his 2nd of his career.
I think Williams will take over that 3rd back spot and I think we'll see Ford move back over to rb and be the number 5 back

I like the kid a lot and feel for him. But from a team depth standpoint I'm not worried one bit. We are stacked at RB.This is brutal. Payne is a tough dude. Solid player, and an easy guy to root for. This hurts.
Ford is not moving back. He doesn't have a future at rb. He's staying to try to become an elite st player to get a spot in the NFL.That sucks. He's a good player and looked good in the spring game. Tough break for him, I think that's his 2nd of his career.

Transfer portal ? Lol.Ford is not moving back. He doesn't have a future at rb. He's staying to try to become an elite at player to get a spot in the NFL.
And is fine at rb with 4.
That was the plan before. Not sure it will be the plan nowFord is not moving back. He doesn't have a future at rb. He's staying to try to become an elite st player to get a spot in the NFL.

Saw a report that he tore it during the spring game. But why wait til yesterday to have surgery ? Seems odd.Anybody know when Payne got hurt? Was it in the Blue-Gold game, during spring practice, or independent of football? I'm admittedly not on top of this as some others are, but I don't remember hearing that he was injured before this report.
Not too uncommon to go slow and explore all avenues of possible return. After it was confirmed, a couple of second opinions …Saw a report that he tore it during the spring game. But why wait til yesterday to have surgery ? Seems odd.
Short of another injury they are fine. RB is the easiest position to pick up. If the 1s get banged up can Ford possibly take some snaps late in the year? Sure, but I wouldn't move him to the room to barely play if at all. The role Payne was going to fill would be best filled by Young who is 230. There is a big pwo on the team too that could take some of the short yardage stuff in some of these games against lesser competition this year. Not sure his name. That was the plan before. Not sure it will be the plan now

Their redshirts are over. They are going to play now for sureTransfer Jake Tafelski Is Ready To Help Notre Dame Anyway He Can
Since Marcus Freeman took over as head coach, the Notre Dame program has made a significant effort to upgrade the walk-on program. Players like Jordan Faison anwww.si.com
Multi year starter from cmu that is big and is strong in pass pro.
Has two years left. Can easily help take the load of the freshmen to preserve their redshirts if needed.
He's not going to play at all at safety. They did it for his NFL future but now team trumps that. He could easily be the number 3 or 4 back on this team.Short of another injury they are fine. No he's not. But he's going to play on every single special teams down. Having a high 4 star be able to ball out on st is big. He's not in the safety room to play safety he's there to drill with the safeties so he can work on tackling. He's not going to play at all at safety. If you have Championship aspirations, that is 16 games. 4 is probably not enough
We'll see what happens. I wouldn't be surprised if they moved him back
He can play on every down of ST as a rb too. I get why they did it. But now you have to put team over individual. He got 15 practices as a tackler for safety. He can actually contribute at rb and be valuable as a position playerNo he's not. But he's going to play on every single special teams down. Having a high 4 star be able to ball out on st is big. Rb isn't something he's going to forget how to play. If you want to label him an emergency back sure...but he shouldn't be practicing at rb or part of the room short another injury.
Just beat Texas A&MWe are so fortunate to have Golson and Mirer in thus Forum.
I agree. No sarcasm. Easily 2 of the top 5 posters here. Their insight is valuable. We are so fortunate to have Golson and Mirer in thus Forum.
No RB is “…almost certain..” to get hurt, and Kedren Young and Aneyas Williams were recruited and signed by Marcus Freeman for a reason.Ford got more snaps than expected last year at RB. I feel like he now has to move to the RB room, and it's not even in question.
He can still be a ST ace and play every snap.
Between Love, Price, Williams, and Young....2 are almost certain to get hurt.
4 is not enough. Even with Ford, the room is top-heavy and thin. I'm concerned.
We really have no idea what Young and Williams can do.
Agreed. We probably need him at RB now for depth. And last year when he played, he didn't look out of place. He looked capable of getting the job done. He averaged 5.5 ypc and scored a touchdown receiving.Ford got more snaps than expected last year at RB. I feel like he now has to move to the RB room, and it's not even in question.

Ford is moving moving back to RB according to MFFord is not moving back. He doesn't have a future at rb. He's staying to try to become an elite st player to get a spot in the NFL.

Yeah that's being picked up multiple spots. I don't think a 200lbs Ford takes the role from Payne and just takes touches from the freshmen. But whatever helps us win.Ford is moving moving back to RB according to MF
He told Irish Illustrated that today. Very easy decision and move to make. He will contribute
