Morrison out for rest of season

Telling a 20-year-old to "...gut it out..." after recently losing his mother to a long battle with Cancer is low budget.

You have no clue what the kid is going through.
Now that do you so shut it.

His mother passed last December, and he played in the bowl game, participated in winter conditioning, plus summer workouts, and fall camp, and 5 games. I’m sure it’s a rough situation, but he decided to leave when his playing time reduced

I hear you, but what good does it do for your team to force a player who doesn't want to be there to stay? I've been around players like that and they are toxic.
The player will likely leave before the season starts. He’s either all in or he’s not and leaves. After one game is played (or even one practice?) then he has no choice but to go forward and he knows what he has signed up for. The eligibility is already gone unless the coaches withhold him. If he wants to preserve the year, then he should transfer before the season/practice begins.

I agree. Grown ass adults sitting behind a keyboard taking shots at a 20-year-old because he doesn't want to stay seems odd to me. No matter what the timing is. Add to that all the that the kid has been through...I simply SMH.

I think he kinda has to. He was not a guaranteed day one guy. And now he's hurt. He should come back. But.... he might jump to the NFL. Someone will draft him. Just probably late.
Morrison was guarantee top 15.

The NCAA should just get rid of the redshirt year all together. Give them 5 years. That would solve it. Then if they leave early they lose the year.

Morrison is in a tough spot. On one hand, he's probably gone as far as he can showing his potential. On the other hand, if this injury hurts his stock and he can't go to the combine, he may want to consider returning.

I'm obviously biased. But if he comes back:

1. Make a bunch of NIL $
2. Get healthy, and have a great year
3. The team should again be in the playoff hunt
4. Earn a 1st round selection

This sounds decent and may prove to be the answer but I wonder if less opportunities will be available for high school students to get scholarships since more players will be sticking around longer. The increase to 105 roster spots does negate that a bit though.

Bottom line ND can still go 11-1. But too many injuries and I just see 10-2 or 9-3 staring at ND around the corner. The forunate thing is he probably comes back in 2025. Because he will not get drafted before round 3 or 4 with the injury. The unfortunate thing is the schedule next year will be hard. NIU continue to haunt this program. Because 6-0 would make me more confident in 11-1.
Agree, think ND loses two more. USC and another

That's what NIL money can do. That's where a lot of a collective's budget goes. To keep players in school, and they put off the draft. Apparently it worked for tOSU, and they kept a number of good high-draftable prospects around for a title run this year, which so far they've bungled just a bit. So they need to win all the rest of their games for it to really pay off. And we did the same thing with Howard Cross, and I'm assuming Xavier too.

It was reported that a lot of NFL GMs were frustrated with the draft, as they felt there were less good players to choose from, especially in the later rounds. They're seeing a lot less younger guys in the draft now.

it cant be that bad finishing your degree before getting distracted with the NFL right? Graduating with your bros, earning some nice NIL money too im sure, and showing you are clearly the #1 guy at your position on film for a bigger pay day

I think this would be great for progress in the sport. College football NIL/revenue sharing/etc. is putting upward forcing pressure on the NFL to increase their compensation package so young prospects will want to ditch their schools and go pro ASAP

Did a Perplexity pro AI search on Benjamin Morrisons draft stock, here's what the AI had to say:

Based on the search results, Benjamin Morrison's 2025 NFL Draft stock appears to be quite high:

Morrison is projected as an early-to-mid first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. His elite coverage skills, football IQ, and versatility make him a strong candidate to be one of the top cornerbacks selected.

  • NFL Draft Buzz ranks Morrison as the #22 overall prospect and #5 cornerback for the 2025 draft, projecting him as a mid-first round pick
  • Yahoo Sports' Nate Tice projects Morrison as a first-round selection
  • WalterFootball.com projects Morrison as a potential first or second round pick (Round 1-2) in the 2025 NFL Draft.
  • Tankathon's mock draft has Morrison going 17th overall to the Green Bay Packers. They rank him as the 12th best overall prospect and 3rd best cornerback in the 2025 draft class.
  • ESPN's Mel Kiper lists Morrison at No. 20 on his Big Board for the 2025 NFL draft.
  • ESPN's Matt Miller ranked Morrison as his No. 2 draft-eligible cornerback, behind Michigan's Will Johnson.
However, it's important to note that Morrison recently suffered a season-ending hip injury that requires surgery. While this setback could potentially impact his draft stock, he was still considered a likely first-round talent prior to the injury. His performance during the pre-draft process and medical evaluations will be crucial in determining his final draft position.

I think people tend to see "#5 Corner" and think "no way he goes in the top 15" but Cornerbacks are HIGHLY in demand/rare prospects in today's pass-heavy game, and they go early and often in the nfl draft. It wouldn't be a surprise to see 5 corners go before pick 15.

You could put my grandma out there and it would not matter with how easy the schedule is the rest of the way. ND has not played a QB that is very good this season and the remaining games are teams with not very good QB's.

Gt and SC qbs are good players

Yeah, I guess schools really can offer comparable money, at least for a single season. And then they get their NFL contract one year later. Works great. Ideally hardly anyone would ever leave. CFB is an extremely lucrative spectator sport, so they deserve their cut anyway. But one of the practical benefits would be, just stay in school four yeas, or even five years if they ever change the redshirt rule, so that players get five years period, and no redshirting. And the quality of CFB goes up.

On the Morrison injury. Did anyone recall seeing it ? I didn’t notice. Just curious.
I was at the miami of ohio game. he was doing hip stretching between series and during timeouts. Very specific to his one hip. Not normal

My guess (no inside info), this injury has been out there and he either made it worse, or it wasn't getting better. He decided surgery was the best option either for the draft or to be ready for next season in the NFL or college (probably NFL).

There are 4 CBs

There are 4 CBs rated above him in just about every NFL draft rating.
Only Will Johnson has been rated above him as far as pure corners and he was simply better than Johnson when they matched up against the same players. Morrison's film won't lie and he'll still go top 20 and I expect him to be able to run and move around come combine time. I think this was a move to protect him for the NFL.

NFL Scout intel on Morrison

“It depends on the severity but it is not a good injury for a guy who already wasn’t very explosive,” one NFC South scout said. “He’s also a guy the general public and media has been higher on than the actual NFL. We have 3rd-4th round grade on him.

“Media had him as a top three cornerback in the class, and he was never that,” they continued. “I’d say the league is mostly around a 3rd so not too far off but projection wise, we see him as just a solid third cornerback on your roster so really a 4th round grade.”

He has a tough decision to make. NIL makes it much easier to return to school

I would say 55/45 he leaves but it's a tough call

He sat out to stretch during the Louisville game too.

Bullshit. Watch USC play. You may change your mind.

Agree, they will calculate the numbers short and long term vs risk and make a decision. It's a smart family.

Well. There are surgeries and then there are "surgeries". The extent is the BIG difference.

Today, minimally invasive arthroscopic hip surgery is now an incredible solution for athletes requiring hip surgery, with shorter recovery times to get back in the game. In fact, research indicates that approximately 84%-87% of athletes will return to their sport following hip arthroscopy.

Return to sport means eventually obviously. Since the season ends in 6 weeks he would possibly be available for a playoff/bowl game but I'm not counting on it. The first round is 9 weeks from today.

USC has lost 4 starters on D . Gentry, Lucas, and one of their DB's due to injury and Bear Alexander. So it's not just ND. Let's hope and Pray ND is past their time for injuries moving forward.

I don’t think Alexander was a starter. More of a 25 snap per game guy. I actually like USC’s defense quite a bit. I won’t be too surprised to see them at 8-3 against ND.
