Offensive line

Answer my question, who did Duke stack the box with when they were playing zone defense ?

And who did Duke stack the box with when they were playing man when we had 4 receivers in the pattern.

Duke only had 11 players on defense, so what players did they stack the box with in the above two situations

You can’t answer the question because they didn’t stack the box as you erroneously stated !
🤡

They did stack the box and announcers even said they were.
The scholarship wr we are talking about are inexperienced
Oh, so now the announcers, who many called clowns, are now the gospel.
‘Now you need the announcers to tell you what was going on.

Answer my question, when Duke was in zone, who did they stack the box with

And when Duke was in man and we had 4 receivers in the pattern, what players did Duke stack the box with ?

remember, the maximum number of players allowed on the field when playing defense is 11.

So when we had 4 receivers, and Duke was in man, which receivers did they abandon in order to stack the box ?

They were getting Elkoed tonight!
Yes, he has them playing with a lot of FIRE. Right now, they're still punching ABOVE THEIR WEIGHT. But if he stays and continues to breath life into the program, you may see them MOVE UP IN CLASS.

As it is, I no longer see them as an AUTOMATIC PRESEASON W.

A few thoughts on this.

First, the interior of our OL is inconsistent and sometimes downright stinks. I watched the center (Zeke) get called for two false starts, that should never happen at the Center position. He also had a hold and got steam rolled by Carter and Hall a few times. Simply put he was terrible. Our Guards weren’t good either, good tackle play as usual but Spindler wasn’t very good either.

Second, the WR play was trash, they got no separation, dropped balls, had a few stupid penalties. I think Hartman’s poor night was due to the terrible WR play AND the poor OL play.

Third, Elko is a damned good defensive play caller. ND would not run outside the tackles whatsoever, the inside blast play with Esitme couldn’t yield anything. He had 42 yards on his first 16 carry’s with a long of 6 yards!! Elko pinched his DT’s over Zeke and ND NEVER made an adjustment. Estime is a RB that needs a little room to get downhill and drive forward, he was hit in the backfield and at the LOS on virtually all his rushing attempts. Elko also had his CB’s play very physical they hit our WRs on the line much more often in the second half of the game and our WRs didn’t seem to adapt well.

Agree with this. They did a really good job of disguising who was blitzing, and the paths of their rush. Our relativel inexperienced guards were confused at times. Zeke was terrible and the sequences of false starts, holding, and getting knocked on his ass was the worst I’ve seen of a veteran OL at ND. The combination of their DB’s dominating our receivers, and the OL struggling with picking up their blitzing, and their cheating against the run made for a frustrating game, and one I thought for sure we had lost. Just as I thought we deserved to win the OSU game, I‘m sure all Duke fans feel that way this morning.

The only thing I disagree with here is that we dominated them for majority of the game. Had a chance to put Duke away in the first half and early in the 3rd. I was screaming at my television for some screen plays to any of our backs.

Watched this today. Sam has no WR’s today. He hit Tobias twice that makes a difference and he just drops them.

Man I’m rooting for the kid but he need to hit the jugs machine for 1000 balls.

Rico dropped an easy on that probably leads to 14-0 instead of 10 zip.

Then some really stupid penalties. Some bad calls too, but just really stupid penalties.

ND has OSU’s wideouts its a diff season

Agree with your comments.

Trouble is, Hartman can't be Hartman with the WR group that ND had to use. Even at full strength, ND's receiving corps is limited and/or unproven. Thank God for Evans as once again ND's tight ends must OVERCOMPENSATE.

Imagine if Hartman had OSU's receivers.

As for the center and guards, they just don't seem STOUT enough. They get OUTMUSCLED. Nothing remotely of the caliber of someone like Quentin Nelson who could push a defender 15 yards downfield.

Great comments by all. I agree the major weakness to improve is the OL. Specifically center and guards. This will optimize Hartman and the running game…and help a passing game that really is challenged due to a lack of receivers.

The fact that we’re ONLY favored by 7 over Louisville would seem to indicate that we have major shortcomings !

I put more stock in polls at midpoint having ND at #10. Vegas is Vegas, game by game.

I think ND will improve. Most parts of the team can do better, with perhaps the WR receiver corps not being good enough. Obviously we're going to see.

I'm thinking we've not seen the best of the Irish yet.

Hamstring injuries make me nervous, but if our young WR get healthy, I think ND will undoubtedly improve as the season progresses

When I reviewed the tape, while the penalties hurt, the dropped passes didn’t help, but worst of all, Hartman didn’t get adequate protection from the OLine

i also hope that performance improves

Try the NFL once in awhile. Watch the MLB playoffs starting on Tuesday. Diversify.

How many holding calls has he had so far this season? Probably more than the rest of the O-line combined.
And if you watch, he is impacting Fischer and Zeke sometimes. They are trying to cover for him. He gets caught flat footed a lot

Is there a case to be made to move away from Rocco and give Shrauth a shot?

Disappointing that the OL isn’t playing better. If we impose our will and run vs USC….we win that game.

We’ll stated completely agree

Tobias and nico were bad, Tobias the worst.

Zeke and spindler were bad, zeke the worst

Coaches probably will ride zeke out but he should be giving up reps, does Billy or kristofic get a look at rg?

As Kelly says,”there’s no one else walking in the door at wr, we need to get healthy fast”

Yes they are. It's obvious their plan
Sorry I'm with parish on this one. Online was beaten bad inside. Zeke was awful.

Stop that pressure and give Hartman more time and the wrs would have looked a lot better.

They threw some wrinkles in that confused Rocco, but Zeke is the one that really got out played. Zeke is also the one that has to help the guards.

And they have a very veteran team this year. They're loaded with RS seniors and grad transfers.

I’m in the minority here as I thought Rocco was our second best OL in this game...Alt of course being the best. I thought Zeke played poorly and Coogan struggled, while Fisher was just OK. I am traveling and don’t have access to watch the game again, so these assessments might change if I could focus more on their play. But Duke has some big talented players on their line and they dedicated themselves to stopping the run, especially between tackles, and our poor WR play facilitated this. The absence of experienced receivers for us also contributed to pretty predictable and limited offensive game calls, which again made us easier than normal to defend, and put more and more pressure on the OL.
So, I don’t think Rocco deserves to be benched from his game against Duke. Fisher is an enigma for me. Huge and strong and talented with good feet, and he seems to play at a very inconsistent level one game to the next. As for Billy, none of us knows how he has practiced and recovered from last years injury, or developed with this abbreviated availability. I think he would likely be starting at LG if not for missing last season, and we might be debating Coogan vs Rocco. All we know is Rudolph thought Coogan was the better selection to start the season, and has remained so.
