I saw quite a few former ND players on the list. Hopefully, they will get picked up!!!

Several of these cuts had good careers (like Sheldon Day), some hung around for a few years which is still pretty impressive (like Chris Watt) and some just didn’t quite have NFL skills but were great ND players (like Khalid Kareem) … then there are the guys that left eligibility on the table and never made the NFL like a Kevin Austin or Jayson Ademilola … I’m sure college football is a grind but wonder if they were getting bad advice from outside the program.

I’ve never understood why players would leave early if they weren’t going to be drafted on 1st/2nd day. Maybe getting bad advice, tired of going to classes? Hopefully, if they didn’t earn their degree, they returned and earned it.

Maybe get passed on the depth chart.

If they had their degree, for a guy like Jayson A, he is what he is. An extra year wasnt going to change him

I do think Kevin Austin made a mistake. He needed another year of production and development. Del coaching really hurt him

Yes i can understand if Jayson left because he didn’t want the play any more college ball, but he was a long shot for NFL and would have been a very nice experienced player to have in the rotation on what could be a very good team.

Austin was on the practice squad, more than likely back again unless a team takes a chance on him. He probably would have benefited, but who knows.

The Kevin Austin situation was ridiculous. Whoever told him to leave is a damn criminal. Kevin shoulda come back. He likely would’ve had a great year and gotten drafted. Then he’s got a better chance to stick on a roster.

Now he’s got no NFL career and no ND degree. Good luck.

Rochell, Day and mustipher have done that already
That is correct. They don't accrue additional pension credit on the practice squad. A minimum of three games on an active roster in a given season is a pension credit of one year.

Wasn‘t he the winningest QB in ND history ?
Not picking on Book. I don't understand why certain posters ridicule young lads who played high D1 athletics.

Winningest QB in this era is very different era than late 80's or early 90's. Schedules are much easier these days. QB's also throw a ton more which leads them having big yardage stats. Rick Mirer or Ian Book ? Tony Rice or Ian Book?

? He's the winningest QB in ND history, not this era. He got more out of his 3* rating then many many 5* rated QBs. I never understand people who attack him, or Rees for that matter. Rees is another one who got the most out of his 3* rating. Envy, Jealousy?

Diehard, hope all is well. Hey just my opinion. Book won & did everything well with whom the school scheduled. You are correct. I stand by my prior comments. ND doesn’t play the schedules of yesteryear.

Sure they do; I've been following ND since the late 60's, well before they played even 11 games a season

In yesteryear QBs rode the pine for their first two years. Now they transfer out in half that time.

So you're holding it against him that he won the job earlier than yesteryear? Seriously?
The total stats are different because the opportunity is different. How is that "holding it against him?" Am I holding it against BK that our 'winningest coach' had more games than anyone before him?

Also you compared Rees and Book together. The only thing those qbs have in common is the uniform.

I didn't compare Rees and Book; I did say they both got a lot out of their 3* rating, more than many many 5*'s. And that's true. And Book created those stats, and those opportunities, because he won the starting job

One thing is indisputable, Book is the winningest QB in ND history and that’s quite an accomplishment.

I don’t believe that anyone claimed that Book was the best QB in ND’s history, but he is in the record books as the winningest QB in ND’s history.
