I don't normally get caught up in strength of schedule this early in the season because there are always lots of upsets that change the SOS over the course of the season. That said, seems like we desperately need Clemson to win out, and Stanford to win the Pac 12, and USC and Stanford to each lose one more game, to ND, Navy to win out except for ND, and for us to win out. Even this scenario might just get us to a top six billing and not to a championship bowl game. My dream scenario has us playing Clemson again for the National Championship.

Tex if we play clemson again Irish by 21

35, not sure about 21, but I firmly believe we win in convincing fashion. Dome or good weather at neutral site. Damn I want that rematch!

Tex - it still stings that we lost Sat -- but I totally don't get how little recognition was given to the state of the program that we could go into a tough setting have four weather related turnovers and be within one play to win vs a team that is now # 6 in the country . Losing always blows always but it takes little imagination to think if we had two turnovers back ND wins by 10 pts .

The program is by far in as good a shape as its been since 1994 . Navy will have their hands full tomorrow . I see tomorrow as the game where Hunter and Jones might combine for 10 catches if we put the ball in the air a lot . I hope we mix it up a lot in the first couple possessions .

The flip side of that (Clemson fans) will say they took their foot off the pedal and went vanilla. I say BS, that ND stopped the only thing that worked for them (the run) and finally found what worked on offense.

I hear what your saying twelve but the fact remains in the last 53 minutes we kicked their ass .

And going back to what I was discussing about the state of the program . If someone had told you in April that we would play Clemson in a monsoon w Kizer at QB and CJ Procise as our only RB not a frosh and that we would have a play to tie the game form the 3 yd line w 12 seconds left every one on this board would have been stunned STUNNED that we would play a team of that level w-o Golson - Zaire - Folston and Bryant to a dead heat w four turnovers thrown in .

Let it go! ND's playoff chances went up in smoke last week. It's well known that schools were going to gang up on ND and use political pressure to keep them out of the playoff even if they were 12-0 this season. All because of no conference championship game. Look at all the animosity spewed at ND by the coaches at Clemson, Missouri, Duke, etc. this past summer. There wasn't a guarantee ND would be in at 12-0. Surely 11-1 won't get them a sniff. Worry about Navy.

I thought most ND fans want bad weather when USC always comes to town? Man, the excuse making segment of the fan base is always a bit hypocritical.

Yeah, everyone is out to get ND. Imbecile.

I was stunned it was 21-20 with minutes to go in the first half vs umass. (So were people in high places). Whipple with nothing was making it a game.....then the floodgates opened. I was stunned that Kizer threw a last second Hail Mary and connected to beat a crappy va team. I was stunned that we almost blew a 30-7 lead to ga tech as they went for an onsides kick down 8. I was thrilled that we waxed Texas. I was stunned that it took kelly over three quarters to find out that short passing was the way to beat Clemson.
kelly has done a below average job.... the team still struggles with getting plays in and basic math.... among other nonsense. I am stunned that our season is teetering on the brink this early..... We spit the bit vs Clemson and kelly took some responsibility for it in his recent pc.
Leave me out of your everyone. kelly is a smug underperforming prick.
I would be more confident if we traded head coaches tomorrow. Navy's discipline is evident in their top of the chart lead in the minimal number of penalties they commit year in and year out. Our unforced errors/penalties are a joke relative to their record of excellence.
We better be sharp tomorrow. We're due....

I am stunned that after you take it up the ass from your boyfriend that you don't wipe him off before sucking his dick

Totally uncalled for. You have a problem remaining civil to those who disagree with you. Cool it.

The OP is right on it. That scenario is exactly what ND needs to happen to have any chance to make the playoffs.
It's amazing to me that a well thought out thread like this can deteriorate into vulgarity and name calling. I've been on and off this board for years and it's sad to see what it has become. It used to be a great group of mature posters, alumnus, and classy fans. Now it's become a cesspool of anger, bitterness and juvenile behavior.
Anyone who cares as much about Notre Dame as some of those on this site profess, would never speak to a fellow fan the way that some of you do. Don't you care how poorly it reflects on the fan base to talk to each other the way you do? I'm no angel, but I would never talk to a nameless, faceless person on the Internet the way you guys do.
And I definitely would never speak to another Irish fan like that. GOD, country, Notre Dame.

the way the season is shipping up I think a 2 loss sec team may very likely get into the championship. at the moment im guessing its 2 Big 12 teams 1 SEC team and either an ACC or Notre Dame team in playoff.

best case scenario may be Clemson runs the table than suffers an ugly loss to South Carolina and again in the ACC champ game.

The Pac 10 only has Utah left in contention. the Big ten better hope OSU or Mich, Mich St wins out but the likelihood is they beat each other with the survivor still having to win the Champ game to have any chance.

the Big 12 doesn't have a meaningful game till November...but when they do Chaos may ensue as its week after week with Ok, Baylor, Tcu, And Ok State going head to head

LSU needs to lose soon or the SEC could wind up with a couple teams in contention as well.

long way to go but someone with 2 losses (obviously not Notre Dame) may get in it before all is said and done)

No way to Big 10 teams get in. MSU is going to lose a couple this year. THey may take 4 hits considering the way the played against Purdue.

ND wins out and they still have a pretty good chance. THey would be helped if Stanford ended up top two in the PAC, CLemson won the ACC, and USC finished with 4 losses or less.

I think the ACC and the PAC are the two P5 conferences that are most at risk at not getting their champion into the playoff. You either want Clemson to go 13-0 or you want them as well as all ACC & PAC teams to collect at least 2 losses.

ND does need CU to keep winning and hopefully they will win the ACC. And, obviously, ND needs to win out for a chance at the playoffs. However, the Irish, IMO, are going to have to start blowing teams out to gain more attention.

Lord, I was at Clemson for the game. It was was a hurricane not a thunder shower. Funny to read these posts. Apparently, it only rained on one side of the field . Hate to say it boys but you simply shit the bed. No excuses, no weather crap, no "only, if" stuff, you shit the bed. Win out and see what happens.

That it was, spider. I still don't think I have dried out completely.

There is so much football to be played . We should look at it week to week. It really is interesting.
This week
Fla vs LSU
Bama vs A&M
MIch vs MSU

With an ND win they will move up to #10/11. In regards to the playoffs :
I hope Bama loses ( get them out of the pic), Florida Loses, and I want MSU to be Mich. Would Like OSU to beat MSU and Mich to beat OSU. That would royally screw up the Big 10 pile crap conference.
