ND vs Nothern Illinois game thread

The late drive where Leonard threw the interception, we had it 1st and 10 at midfield with 6:00 left and had just run the ball well for a few plays, up 14-13. But then we throw it long, and Leonard throws the interception. Why are we even calling that play? Leonard isn't accurate. He's not good at throwing deep. He had lousy stats last year at throwing deep, too. We should've kept running the ball there IMO.
Hindsight is 20/20 though the outcome would have been almost certainly better. 2nd and really short is a good time for a shot play because you expect to pick up the first on the next two plays usually.

You’re not expecting to turn it over. Incomplete and then run for the first. A TD really puts ND in a good spot there.

MF, and MD are not serious coaches.

There is no way this is what they saw all fall and were like “this guy is the clear starter.”

This happened because they spent money on NIL and were hoping he’d look better against lesser defenses.
MD orchestrated an historic offense at LSU last year. And before people say all the talent, etc., Jaden Daniels wasn’t doing anything close to what he did at LSU when he was at Arizona State.

Punch of pussies and all you ****ing fan boy ******s **** this team and this lame ass mother ****ing coach

Crash out of the year lmaoo

Hopefully we see Leonard stretch the field. Rewatching lat weeks game I was impressed with Bowen taking on the lead blocker. No fear in that kid.
We found out today Leonard doesn't have the arm to stretch the field. Book has a stronger arm.

Here’s one indisputable fact. ND is way overrated as usual. They really aren’t that good. Any playoff talk has now ended. That was an embarrassing pathetic performance today. All of a sudden 7 wins looks like a stretch.
Yep . Same shiat again!

On Leonard's last interception, the receiver had the db beat by 5 yards and Leonard couldn't make that throw. Haven't pressured either, he had the time to step into it.

He should be benched for Angeli. Angeli would have and has made that throw.

Have you heard from Golson?

I worry about that dude.
He'll show up mid week deny he ever said Leonard was dynamic and much better than Hartman, or blame it on the offense as a whole.

It’s tough to have a narrative stuffed down your pie hole!
Then he should STFU and stop acting like he's Andy Reid! He thought Buchner and now Leonard were the next coming, not only was he wrong he was epically wrong! I have never seen one tape on either of those 2 stiffs that ever said NC' QB w/ above average passing skills? It was never there, they were personal favorites he tried to shove down anyone's throat that would listen! If I didn't know better he's the dude from years ago that also thought he knew specifically everything about breaking down tape. Can't remember his name?

If Duece Knight was on the fence, he's as good as gone after that spectacle.
to Auburn . . .
I actually blame Denbrock more. He should understand Leonard's strengths and weaknesses. Why did we have a pass-happy offense today? Leonard's better at running than passing. Also, our RBs were doing well, when they ran. But they didn't run enough. And where was the RPO with Leonard after the first drive? After that, he just turned into a dropback passer, which he's not good at.
Seems like we ask these questions a lot. Wasn't the Marshall game lost on a turnover?

I don't think anyone thought NIU could reliably gain 6 ypp and make it the final drive.

HA HA! I felt this way after the ND/ Syracuse game. Snowballs reigned down on their own team. Don't bet on the Irish. They'll find a way to break your heart every time. I think the losses to Cuse, Navy (2/3x), Northwestern, & Uconn just wore me down.

Losing to Syracuse is not an outrage per se. 2017 Clemson dropped one and their 2018 played a nail biter.

I don’t know who should be credited with it, but somebody “unlocked” Jayden Daniels.

Cuz before last year he was afraid to throw the ball down the field

This loss wasn’t solely on the shoulders of Riley Leonard, this loss was a team loss and a coaching loss.

The offensive line performed poorly and the vaunted defense proved vulnerable.

It was a systemic and very disappointing loss

How we play against Purdue may determine our fate for the balance of the season

The Defense played well enough to win. They only gave up 16 points.

The offense was putrid. Leonard may have been pressured at times, but he missed open receivers and has shown he has no arm, and threw an interception where he under threw an open receiver that would have gone for a TD if he makes that throw.

Receivers also dropped the ball

Look at the imbalance in the TOP and the defense couldn’t stop NIU when it mattered

More than anything, this game was an embarrassment, a significant blemish on ND

I know I’m venting. I need to. I have no other place to do that. And yet time will move on and this will be just a distant memory. But for now, this sucks and I hate when they lose. So what do I do. ? I come here to let it all out.
It’s good stuff

Obviously the coaches at LSU should. Namely BK, and then all of the pertinent offensive coaches like his OC and QB coach. That would clearly be the troika. But he himself is obviously uber naturally talented, and apparently he was a real hard worker at LSU.

He showed signs here and there, but before LSU, he didn’t throw the ball down the field well, was late on decisions including when to take off running. Honestly, before he began at LSU, being a top 2 pick would be at like 10,000-1 odds.
