Miami OH game thread

I am at the game and I will give a more detailed review but the screen is a distraction with so many ND commercials. Can't even hear the band most of the time. Brutal

Still don't understand the single coverage, but good job D.

Miami is forcing the single coverage with Gardiner by playing 3 wide to the field. ND's FS is forced to play over the top of the strong side of the formation and at times is even stuck having him play man up. Watkins can't get anymore top help on Gardiner in that situation. It's just a good matchup for them. The cover 1 to the field on the end zone shot was the result of ND heating up Ragland and thebsafrty rotating down in coverage.

There's always zone coverage. It'd be better to have a safety traveling towards the ball in the air with clean sight than to have Watkins standing next to a taller WR playing jump balls. With his back turned.

I have no problem mixing in zone coverage with 2 high safeties, but a staple of Elko's defense is man coverage. I think Watkins has been excellent his year, but Gardiner has gotten the best of him today.

Watkins has been great. Even today, he's right there. He's just playing at a huge disadvantage against a WR that is very good at finding the ball in tight spaces.

Does anyone know the last time we scored 45 in the first half?
I asked the same question yesterday only to hear Criqui say that the record was something like 48(?) against Pitt in 1968(?). I could hardly hear Criqui at that point in my Bose earbuds because everyone around me were doing push ups and hollerin' and screamin' and yodelin'. Fun times in the old ball park even if it was Miami Ohio (no disrespect).
