Lane Kiffin "You might as well be in different leagues, not conferences, different leagues…”

Who's to say what the best 12 teams are??? SEC plays no meaningful out of conference games. Bama got slapped around by Oklahoma who isn't that good. Ole Miss lost to three unranked teams.
Georgia played Clemson and GaTech
Bama played Wisconsin
LSU played USC
South Carolina played Clemson
Texas played Michigan

I wouldn't say those games were meaningless.

That's eventually what's going to happen. There's going to be a super league. With a regular, recognizable playoff format. Or we could just stick with this, and the SEC could just deal with it when they only get three teams. It's a zero sum game. They're probably better off the way it is. A super league would dilute their advantage, as the recruiting would tend to level out. You would think it certainly would.
I agree. Expanding to 16 teams would make the ragular season and rankings pretty much worthless. But you know to ensure alabama or another sec team gets a spot thats what we'll do first.

It just strikes me as odd, that cfb is one of the only sports where pundits and so called experts decide a teams fate, taking a teams destiny out of their own hands and off the field. Money... thats why.

Why would you say that 16 teams would make the regular season and rankings worthless?

How else would a team get into the playoffs if they’re not ranked in the top 16?

That places is even more emphasis on the regular season

You wouldn't be ranked in the top 16. They'd all be automatic bids. Just like the NFL, or the NBA, or MLB, or.....

And there'd be no more rankings. And the polls would finally, mercifully die.

True. Not every team in the SEC is a juggernaut either

Does March Madness have no integrity? The entire allure of the tournament are the upsets. This 12 team format is great EXCEPT for the 1-4 seeding based on conference champs. That's stupid.
That was a negotiated deal. It isn’t going to change.

If Arizona State, Indiana, SMU, Boise St., or Clemson played in the SEC, none of them would make the playoff.
Though it might be true, it is still opinion. However , if that’s the case and people believe the SEC is much better than everyone else , then they should move and make their own league. If the argument is to simply pick the best 12 teams then the only teams in their would be from the SEC , BIG 10 maybe an outlier or two from other conferences. I mean if you have an undefeated Boise St and a 3 loss Alabama, who’s better? You really don’t know unless they play each other. They really is no perfect scenario to pick 12. The only thing that might work is to have a two tier system. Tier 1 SEC , BIG 10 , BIG 12 and ACC. But they only play schools in that tier. Tier 2 is everyone else. Same deal they only play schools in tier 2. Have two separate playoffs for each tier. 12 teams each. This way no one can say that this or that team doesn’t belong. Boise state or SMU wouldn’t take a spot from a more “ deserving “ SEC or other power 4 school.

Not sure how it would look to be honest. To me, with the conf champs getting a guarentee, and what we saw this year with the loser of those games, so long as its competitive, being given a spot, it doesn't matter where you are in the regular season. Big10 and SEC are pretty "safe" as they usually have both of their champ game teams ranked fairly high. I think it would be easy to see a situation where one team in a conferance is 11-0 while their opponent is 9-3 and the second best team, but not ranked in the top 16. Of course, we all know the pollsters will try to inflate that second place teams ranking to make it look good.

I don't know fellas, I feel like cfb and its recent systems will always be flawed. There will always be teams getting screwed and drama of who's in and out. The reality is, if you can't put schools into a league with divisions and no one plays games outside of their league, its all subjective. Like this year, and this is nothing against some of these schools. But you can't pretend SMU or Boise St. is going to make it very far, if at all in this thing. Its a nice story and they played within the rules set forth for the playoffs, but they'll most likely get hammered in their first game.
