I don't know much about this kid. What do you all think we are looking at the rest of the year with him? He didn't seem to accurate or quick with decisions until that game winner. Is he going to be in over his head or can he manage this team and make throws when needed. I know we need to wait and see until he plays a lot more but I'm wondering some of your opinions on him that may have more inside info than I have on the kid. And what about Wimbush(sp?) If Kizer can't get it done do you feel this kid would be ready to step in and possibly lead them to some victories?

With Folston and Zaire I was thinking either 10-2 or 11-1. If Zaire is out for the year it will be 8-4 in my opinion unless the defense can step up and start being a turnover machine.

I feel terrible for Zaire i'm expecting nothing more than news soon that he's out for the year. Next man in right? Go Irish!!!

He has just as much ability as MZ or Golson, just lacks experience. Wil the next two games and he will have that experience.

Only thing I didn't like --REALLY didn't like was he is really loose w the ball when getting out of trouble -HE must clean this up or teams are going to tomahawk the ball out of his hands . I like his pocket presence ( some say it is better than Zaires - that was reported in camp. ) He simply has to protect the football . Watch the replay you see will see what I am talking about , he holds it away from his body with one hand - he simply won't be able to hold onto the ball if some one chops it

on a positive note I read where he passed out of the pocket much better than Zaire in camp . I love his length as well 6'4" . Fact is our playoff shot is done - dam shame . Man what this running attack would have looked like w Folston and Procise

Last comment for now I have stated several times that I will not be sold on the OL until we move the sticks in the red zone and on 3rd and short at nut cracking time - should have been a 21 pt game if we move the pile in the red zone and UVA should not have had that last shot to score under 4 min left .

Would have been nice to have folston these short ydg situations .

Continually, I thought we read that he was very good with the long ball this Spring, but not accurate with the shorter throws. He was no slouch coming out of high school and a good commit. Throwing the winning TD with 12 seconds has to help his confidence and the confidence of his teammates in him. Golson taking snaps this past Spring looms huge. I thought we had a chance to overcome the loss of Jones and Folston, but adding Zaire to this list is probably too much. Next man in is a true Freshman. Scary.
Unrelated, I was really disappointed in the soft play of our corners, particularly Luke.

The kid has a big set to come in and play like that in the situation. Sanford is going to earn his money. Winbush needs to get ready as well.

The only thing that gives me hope is that he is way more accurate than Malik. People who watched all the summer camp said he out threw Malik everyday, and that you could count the number of passes he missed on one hand.

He just does not have the running game of Malik nor the mastery of the offense. You could tell he was starting WR down. Its pretty amazing that we are down to 2 QBs with 10 games to go.

All I know is Kizer Soze has a rocket arm.
Next man in.
Just need to run the ball more and take shots on play action.
Where were the throws to the TE's today....didnt see one I think.

I tell you whats killing us on the short yardage.....the handoffs. Procise is doing a helluv a job overall but he hesitates when getting the hand off. Couple of those short yardage we would have gotten if he just hit it full speed on the snap.

Got a link or source for that? Haven't seen alot on Kizer and would like to read more.

Play him like TR - you can't afford to lose this QB.
That's what had to be done with MZ. I just don't understand what Kelly is thinking with constant designed runs for Zaire today? I held my breathe all day. This day was coming. We all knew it. Kelly must be so proud of his rinky dink style.

YES truth O Line has a lot to prove and their failure in the red zone should cost them a few steaks and malts

next weekend will tell a lot about kizer as he'll be the main guy taking snaps all week with the first team. ohio st won last year after losing there first two qbs and so can our irish if we keep running the ball well and if the wrs step up as a group and play better like we all know they can

It was his first real PT but he DID STARE DOWN FULLER He cannot do this and must go thru progressions We got very lucky today More luck than Kizer skill Fuller is amazing Kizer has a big upside we shall see stranger things have happened See OSU 3 QBs

Good post continual but "Couple of those short yardage we would have gotten" in if there was a blocking back. A short offense is no friend to a short field.

Pers I disagree-------you have to run the QB in Spread. If you don't the zone read play is gone.

I'm not saying you need to carry it 12-15 times a game but you have to keep the defense honest or we'll be playing the next 10 with a bigger more athletic Tommy Rees.

The alternative is to be in the spread with some 2 back which I haven't seen us do thus far.

Kizer is a very naturally gifted QB. Better skill sets than Zaire and much higher up side. If Kelly can teach and build his confidence, rather than yell - his talent will emerge. O line was disappointing Saturday. GT is going to be a real test.

I hate to mention this and it has been a theme of mine since the game ended yesterday, but, MZ out for the year is only part of our problems. This team cannot win with Cardale Jones running the offense if all this other negative stuff doesn't get fixed in a hurry.

run your QB-run the risk!

This change will mean that the best parts of the team: OL, WR, TE will move to the front of the class,

With both EG and MZ the team seemed to be the QB. Now all 11 are part of the game plan. I am counting on Sanford to be a meaningful influence so as to not lapse into another TR type era.
It will be very disappointing and even disturbing if Sanford is setting up as another "yes" man
Use DK's strengths! No square peg round hole stubborness!

You can't throw 50 passes a game given the defense and the nature of the opponents we play.

Especially this week-----quick 3 and outs are a recipe for a beat down against a team like GT.

You have to run the ball----keep them off the field and score TD's in the red zone.

I posted this in another thread but I feel they need to put Kizer under center and get rid of the read option. Defenses will know Kizer isn't keeping it so they will key on Procise. Put Laatua(sp?) as the H-Back as the blocking back and use Smythe/Jones as your TE on the line as your pass catching TE. Or scratch the TE on the line just use the H-Back and still go 3 wide. They need to power up behind the o line and the o line needs to live up to its hype. Establish the run and throw off of play action.

If the same offense works with Kizer that's terrific but if teams are stopping the read option run game out of the spread and Kelly doesn't try to adjust I'm going to be pissed.

Let's see what happens. Can't dwell on the past because it's done no need to sulk about what's already done. Gotta move forward with what you have in front of you.

it was freakin UVA! I don't care if the whole damned university was in the box! Impose your will; break their will.
ND=ND

Pers. Here is my take on this offense moving forward. The switch of CJ to the backfield gives them a guy that can go 50 yards for a score everytime he touches the ball. The problem is that when he was at the slot he was a major duel threat weapon. Carlisle flat out stinks as a runner. Hunter too. It's tough to run the jet have to be able to cut up when the def outflanks you and turn the corner IF you have the speed . I mention this because Kizer will not be running the ball like a RB . That is what MZ brought to the offense. I cannot blame BK for injuries at all. The read option is now going to be a MAJOR problem . Defenses will key CJ Procise . They need to infuse CJ Sanders in the slot and also put a lead blocker ( Latua) FB - style for Procise . IDK how good the OL is if the defense knows on 3rd and 2 Procise is getting the ball with MZ at QB and his running -duel threat skills watch what happens now. GO 3 TE system at times. As for Kizer . He looked really good in Fall camp so he did improve. BK says he has great weapons around him. I say BS to that. Robinson, Brown, Carlisle are far from Great weapons . Hunter ?? Too early to tell. Find a great weapon ( Sanders in slot?) to keep pressure off of Fuller . St Brown ? lastly the playcalling , I cannot stand BK "team" OC . WHo is calling the plays ? 0-10 on 3rd down ??? Red zone offense never improves . No play-action with Alize, Smythe inside the 10yardline? This guy cannot call a game inside the Red zone. It's fact. No imagination. at all . Make no mistake about it Kizer is good but he does NOT have the weapony BK says he does UNLESS he is talking about Fuller and Procise only. Lets see if Brown, Robinson, and the other recievers make me eat me words. I hope so or it's a long season.

Kizer has enough talent around him to be successful. Yes he almost threw a pick six that would have lost the game. But he also scrambled and then found Procise wide open back across the middle of the field. He has the arm and BK says he knows the offense. Protect him with a commitment to the running game and then let him hit deep balls on play action. And USE the tight ends. Some one else posted were there any passes thrown to a TE yesterday?

The defense worries me more than Kizer does.

"Jaylon's words really stuck with me," Kizer said after the 34-27 win. "He said he trusted me. Jaylon doesn't say too much. He came up to me and said he trusted me and that we have to go win a game. We didn't get the stop we needed and it was time for me to take over. With that in mind, there was no stopping the Irish.

I was just at our local wal mart bying a few things and a teenager at the register noticed my irish shirt and talked about us losing our qb and then went on to talk about how if his ohio st buckeyes could do what they did with a third stringer then we could do the same and I agreed. our irish have to play better against the pass and improve in a few other areas but this kid was right in saying that our irish can basically have as good of a year with our backup qb just like the buckeyes. maybe not win a title like the buckeyes but still win 10 plus games

what Ohio St did may be the first and only time in the history of football that happened. Lose two QB's and then win a championship w/ a 3rd one. Not going to happen at ND - but, like you say - if they can still win 10 games this season - that would be a great season for ND and BK. Lots of other issues reared their same ugly head yesterday though - Still no stifling D - no run game on short yardage - etc. Gonna be very tough to win 10 w/ these other yearly constant issues that ND cannot seem to figure out.

BTW - Virginia in a lot of pre season college football magazines is predicted to come in last in the ACC. We made an average team look like new years day bowl team yesterday. Wait till we play good teams.

at least Kizer was on a roll there at the end of the game

all hope is not lost

As long as Kizer has Fuller to throw to, he has a chance to be good, very good.

ohio st a couple of years ago should have lost to a really bad purdue team at home when they got outplayed most of the game but somehow found a way to win at the end and they finished the regular season unbeaten. my point is that teams are going to struggle against lesser teams once in a while and if you have a good team then your going to find a way to win on bad days compared to average teams and our irish did that by finding a way to win against a lesser team on an off day when things weren't going right on either side of the ball

MZ needs to run to be effective; not so with Kizer or Wim. The offense will still be awesome!

I agree, and yet Kizer managed to run for a 1st down on 4th and 2 when it mattered. I've read that it was a run/pass read and that Kizer ran because he saw man coverage.

The experts always say that teams improve from week one to week two. It's interesting that we actually played worse from week one to week two. How can that be?
