Hartman just committed…

You can't plan ahead anymore with the transfer carousel. No one is going to stay a backup when they can start somewhere else. For example say Carr comes in 2024, can you predict Buchner would stay around to play with Minchey, Carr, AND whomever transfers in?
Carr will take a red shirt year to learn the system more than likely, but TB might not be around if ND dips into the portal again next year for a QB. If he is smart, he will be just like a sponge learning everything he can from someone who has been there before.

Hmm. I like to think Buchner is one of those who need and value and ND degree. Having a realistic idea of his talent and limited NFL potential. Maybe he sticks around, developing, getting his chance...at worst getting his degree and then transferring for some playing time if it doesn't materialize at ND?

We keep coming back full circle to the college vs semipro models of sports. Soccer has fully evolved so that any aspiring athlete chooses the latter over the former. College football is becoming semipro, so big decisions are being made about academics vs sports.

I have to say Hartman got it right. He has a degree, right? And is transferring to see what he can do with 1 more year of eligibility. Solid risk mitigation, balancing sports and academics.

Wish the same for Buchner. These are all kids who should do right by themselves in this mess.
