Fleck headed to Minnesota

Flecks best chances of becoming The HC at ND are to make Minn respectable and for Kelly to be very successful the next two seasons.

Funny stuff 78. But, knowing the board the way we do, if Fleck has a successful 2017 season at Minny, this board will explode with "I told you so" until the end of time. At that point, most everyone wil have claimed they supported Fleck since his conception to be the next Irish HC. I do wish him well and you never know what the future may hold. Last time ND hired a Minny HC, it worked out pretty well.

Minnesota wasn't horrible last year........I think they were 9-4 and won their bowl game. They fired their coach because he made an ill-advised tweet supporting the player boycott threat of the bowl game. Let's see what kind of talent he can draw there because I don't think they have one 4 star recruit for next year.

I have no problem with Fleck. He is just not ready to coach at ND. Let's see how he does at Minnesota.

Didn't the Mizzou HC support his players during their protest boycott? And what was Fitz's public opinion on the Northwestern labor union issue? He sided with the university AFTER conferring with university lawyers. Smart. I think these coaches forget that they don't work for the players but I understand in the name of team unity you have to be somewhat supportive, at least in the locker room. By supportive, let your players air their concerns behind closed doors and let them feel they have their coach's ear. It's definitely a fine line to draw.

Minnesota won nine games this year. It will be tough for the Gophers to become more respectable than that.

Buffalo
Oregon State
Middle Tenn
Maryland
Purdue
Mich State
Illinois
Iowa
Michigan
Nebraska
Northwestern
Wisconsin

Not sure what Minnesota has coming back for 2017, or what their recruiting looks like at the present, but Fleck has his work cut out for him.

You are correct. However, I would think the Missouri and NU situations were decidedly different than gang rape and sexual assault involving your players.

Buffalo win
Oregon State win
Middle Tenn win
Maryland win
Purdue win
Mich State toss up
Illinois win
Iowa loss
Michigan loss
Nebraska loss
Northwestern toss up
Wisconsin loss

Fleck has a chance to start 7-0, but the back end of the Gopher's schedule is much more of a challenge.

I mean Minn is already a relatively respectable team. They just won the Holiday bowl and went 9-4. Its not like its purdue

Who is right? The players or the university? I really don't know the finer details of the case.

He is saying you are correct in that it is a fine line to draw for a coach between supporting his team and being an employee of the university. The distinction is that there is an easier argument to be made that the Northwestern players would be justified in their actions. The Minnesota boycott surrounded suspensions by the university due to allegations of Gang Rape. Most of the players didn't know the full details of the allegations until after they had threatened to boycott b/c none of it was leaked until it became a major story.

Sal and Ivan, I stand corrected. Minn was damn respectable.

Claeys would have been wise to at least get on the same page as his AD prior to making any comment. Kind of a noob mistake for coach.

If he's as great a coach as some people say, he should be able to challenge for the Big Ten West next year. Their toughest competition will be Wisconsin.

What do the have coming back? Nebraska isn't losing a lot and was better then them last year. Maintaining 8-9 wins at Minnesota has to be viewed as a success

Also independent of you thoughts on him for ND his interview with Rome last week was awesome... Listened to it and would have thrown my car the rest of the way to work if hadn't already been in the parking garage.

I think now the bigger question is this:

What will End_23/RowtheBoatND have as a new handle, since his hero is no longer available?

Aren't you severely underestimating the number of his previous handles? Oh, that's right, despite the fact that he has repeatedly been banned from this board and keeps returning, we're the pathetic ones who need to get a life. Lol.

if you trace the origin of the phrase "The Grass is Always Greener". It probably goes back to 1928 when Knute Rockne went 5-4 at ND.

I'm sure some "Sewing Circle" was sitting around pissing and moaning about how it was really The Four Horseman who won all those games and Knute was just a "5-4" coach".

PS Rockne came back and went 9-0 in 1929 and 10-0 in 1930. Stay tuned because Brian Kelly is going to be making a whole bunch of nitwits and jock sniffers eat a whole bunch of crow in their mom's basements. Can't wait until September!!!!

I don't know exactly what they have coming back. But it's not like Nebraska and Iowa were that great. Both got blown out several times this year. Minnesota had a good bowl win over Washington State, and played Wisconsin tough in Madison (led into the 4th quarter).

Its still Minnesota its not like you can rely on them to be respectable

IMO, if keeps them at 9-4 over the next two seasons, that would be a significant accomplishment.

If ND looks to make a change (for whatever reason) at that time, would that resume impress the ND AD..?

LMAO
So Kelly is Rockne and ND is going to be undefeated next season. I doubt either are true

Why exactly has there only been one undefeated season then (which is no longer in the books)
Let's see your history of comments about coaches:

Coach Meyers wins only because of elite players
Coach Harbaugh is a bad coach
Coach Shaw is a nothing coach
And coach Kelly is the next Rockne
Got it.
BTW You've ate enough crow to fill cook book Rachael Ray would be proud of.

I gotta know which way have you liked it served broiled, sauteed, deep fried, baked, Raw?

And you want people to take you seriously laundry boy?

It's this kind of ^^^^^^^elitist mindset that really plagues too many fans.

This type of thinking is ridiculous.

Moreover just because somebody has been on a "bigger stage" automatically thinking they are much better suited to coach here is nothing short of ignorance.

I've never advocated for or against Fleck. Truth be told I don't know who will be great here and you've no idea as well.

Having this elitist attitude will get the team no where. There is no crystal ball and no guarantees. The only certain thing is you'll never enjoy potential success from all the chances you don't take.

That's what the fans like you don't get. He'll take a job like Bama or Auburn next, not ND. Just like Meyer, a coach like Fleck will make his next stop at a place he can win big.

Yes, he did, and then he (Pinkel) was pushed out too.

agree. If Fleck is successful at Minny, the next job will be big boy CFB not ND. More likely that ND will need a new coach at end of 2017 season anyway.

it is Meyer not Meyers. My point was apparently too nuanced for a barely functional real life Forrest Gump.

You have people who know football (players & coaches) and then you have people who know nothing about football...and that would be you...individuals like you who would be instantly laughed off a practice field, a meeting room, a film session, a sideline. You are so monumentally stupid that you don't even know what you don't know. LMAO!

So you and your girlfriends in the sewing circle huddle on a completely irrelevant fan forum and spew criticism and accolades about men who coach a game you know absolutely nothing about. You "little boys" are like most wannabes on lifes sidelines. Anonymous gutless cowards. Your a loser DIP. And calling people you never met in your life "coach" does not change that fact.

Ara had 2 undefeated regular seasons.
Holtz had only 1. No other coach, including Devine, has had an undefeated regular season since 1966 except Kelly. This is a terrible stat to use for coach comparisons.
