Dante Moore … is trouble brewing?

Nah he was done by that point, guys don’t develop all of a sudden in their 5th year and at a new school
BK ruined Golson. As someone mentioned, the coaching style didn’t mesh with Everett. You can challenge your players without destroying their confidence. I was a huge fan of EG and was in Tempe when he had the 5 INT game against ASU- guy had lost all confidence.

This. Potential unrealized. Golson was actually better his first year n got worse with red face. Didn’t help that he lost a year by screwing around

EGold's comeback in the 2nd half @ASU was his best performance other than @FSU. IIRC we went from dead to right to attempting a tying fg.

But otherwise that mismatch in the tier of Montana-Devine.

Let's be honest, most if not all of the QB's during the Kelly era regressed. Don't know if it was coaching, the offensive scheme, Kelly making them timid and afraid to make mistakes, or a combination of all of it, but ND has recruited very good QB's and for none of them to progress, is not on the players but that's on the coaches.
Excellent post

At the time, I thought Golson had all the tools to excel in Kelly’s QB dominated dual threat high scoring offense we all were desperate to see. Damn, he threw a beautiful ball and his bullets and over the top throws seemed effortless. But the drive Killing interceptions at seemingly critical times got worse with experience; and the subsequent in your face ass chewing from Kelly were more than the thin skinned emotional guy could handle. Not a Good match.

It was coaching or lack thereof.

Golson wasn't a good match with Fisher either for that matter. To me Golson, while talented was a "too cool for school" type kid where he just didn't care enough to be coached and was undisciplined.

USC has a 5-Star in the 2023 QB class already, and an older seasoned backup QB in waiting to start in 2024, who is really well thought of. I do not believe Lincoln Riley will portal in Dante Moore.
Usc is a shit bed of college sports. Always cheating never producing

I just wish Notre Dame would have beaten USC last season.
The game wasn't close last year. I think winning this year is more important. 1. Home game 2. Freeman has had the whole off season to prepare better for CW and Rees is gone so the new OC also has to prove himself. 3. We have Sam Hartman and not Pyne and SH is surrounded by top talent. 4. Elite recruits will be looking at our big games to see if we can win them.

I expect that last season was a great learning experience for Freeman, his first as a head coach. I think he spent a hell of a lot more time thinking about and planning how to be a better head coach than anything specific to USC. The loses to Marshall and Stanford were much more devastating than the loss to USC. I thought our OL played a terrible game against USC, only outdone by the anemic play of our DL. Both were expected to dominate, and both got their asses kicked.

I think having LR instead of CH inspired confidence in USC and maybe why our OL struggled plus they had a new DC. If you look back at the Lou Holtz era he always played smash mouth run football which wore down the opposing D in the second half. He was committed to that. I still feel that strategy makes the most sense given our OL talent and stable of running backs. Then open up in the 2nd half when the D is back on their heels. Go back and look at the mixture of plays on the ground that Holtz would run no matter who the QB and that is why he was able to consistently win.

I don't know about this. He didn't get the right schooling. What was his major?

Also our QB cast offs have a habit of transferring to programs without an Oline and we usually see them running for their lives.

Yep, he’s the kind of player that would be in the portal two or three times in today’s game.
