and if UT loses close in SECCG they may remain ahead of ND.They have zero good wins. That would be very surprising

That would be more likely than the other scenario. But not for certain either.and if UT loses close in SECCG they may remain ahead of ND.
Yep, I'm inclined to agree if you're commenting on the committee's thoughts rather than ours. Always an important distinction! Thanks for the response. I was speaking more to the committee’s own logic rather than what you or I think. Georgia’s remaining games are Massachusetts and Georgia Tech who ND beat soundly. So it would be hard to justify the committee then turning around and bumping them ahead of ND according to their own rankings.
Thoughts?
And watch for them to potentially bump Georgia or Alabama ahead of ND this week because they know what we discussed.Yep, I'm inclined to agree if you're commenting on the committee's thoughts rather than ours. Always an important distinction!
5 or 6 gets us the 2nd round matchup with ACC or B12, correct?6 tomorrow and 5 the week after because the loser of OSU Ind will be below us
Week after Osu Ind
Oregon
OSU (assume they beat Ind)
Tex
Ped state
ND
Final ranking
1. Big
2. SEC
3. Acc
4. B12
5. Loser of big 10 champ
6. Ped state if we don't jump them
7. ND (lowest ranking if we win out)
5 to 7 will be our final ranking very likely
A podcaster was saying they should live stream their deliberations. I completely agree. There’s a lot on the line with these rankings and the committee should be an open book.I don't have much trust in the committee either this year. And I'm one of the few who thinks they have generally done a great job over these past 10 years. Too many inconsistencies in their rankings this year, though. I get the sense that different people in the room are using different criteria and each week just depends on who happens to be the loudest voice.
The committee doesn’t owe ongoing discussions to anyone, IMO.A podcaster was saying they should live stream their deliberations. I completely agree. There’s a lot on the line with these rankings and the committee should be an open book.
The loss to Northern Illinois will keep Notre Dame behind 9-1, 10-1, or 11-1 Penn State, IMO.Penn St ranking wont hold. Their best win is Illinois. Just cant see them holding a top 6 spot with that bad of a resume.
Why?The committee doesn’t owe ongoing discussions to anyone, IMO.
Why would they? Why would anyone agree to that? There is no purpose other than to open yourself up to criticism from fan bases. You can explain yourself after the rankings are posted. Why?
That’s the idea. People already criticize them. A 5 minutes interview with the AD who presided over the cheaters at Michigan doesn’t suffice. It would be nice to hear a voters thoughts on why specifically they voted the way they did.Why would they? Why would anyone agree to that? There is no purpose other than to open yourself up to criticism from fan bases. You can explain yourself after the rankings are posted.
I think its a great idea, but then boosters would know who had the most influence in these rankings/deliberations and would know the person to target with bribes lolA podcaster was saying they should live stream their deliberations. Good point haha. At least have everyone submit their top 25 prior to deliberations or something.I think its a great idea, but then boosters would know who had the most influence in these rankings/deliberations and would know the person to target with bribes lol
As a USC fan I get why you hope for the worse for ND but 4 wins against ranked opp vs 1 for PSU. Plus 2 common opp where ND will likely have bigger margin of victory. And finally I still dont know why you are here? The loss to Northern Illinois will keep Notre Dame behind 9-1, 10-1, or 11-1 Penn State, IMO.
and if UT loses close in SECCG they may remain ahead of ND.
But if the Horns lose to A&M, they don't make the SECCG and may not title. Aren't conferences & playoff the bees knees? That would be more likely than the other scenario. But not for certain either.
Texas am could beat them and they won't even be in the sec champ game is also possible
They won't be in the Conf champ if they lost to am and would be behind usBut if the Horns lose to A&M, they don't make the SECCG and may not title. Aren't conferences & playoff the bees knees?
Not surprised they care using that. It's a jokeThat’s awesome that ND is still ahead of Bama and Georgia. There’s even a little buffer with Miami there between Bama and Georgia/Ole Miss.
As it stands now, three SEC teams are coming up north. Would love that.
It’s a shame that espn is parading that phony strength of schedule around. It’s a sham. Hopefully the committee isn’t using that.
Alabama in South Bend is a winnable game. That said, I agree.Well, good to see we moved up and would be hosting a game. But the opponent is not the one we probably would prefer, as Bama's still one of the most talented teams out there. Things will continue to change in the rankings, though.
It is, but the way they're each playing right now, I think the proposed opponent last week (Tennessee) would be a slightly easier game.Alabama in South Bend is a winnable game. That said, I agree.
We won't be matched up with Bama anyway when the final ranking comes outIt is, but the way they're each playing right now, I think the proposed opponent last week (Tennessee) would be a slightly easier game.
Agree, even though Tennessee beat Alabama. It is, but the way they're each playing right now, I think the proposed opponent last week (Tennessee) would be a slightly easier game.
Truth be told, I would rather not play Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, or Mississippi in Round 1.It is, but the way they're each playing right now, I think the proposed opponent last week (Tennessee) would be a slightly easier game.
Cool story USC troll.Truth be told, I would rather not play Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, or Mississippi in Round 1.
They need to tweek it so P4 auto bids become 1-8. That way the conf champ gets in & gets to host a playoff game but dont get overly rewarded for winning a bad conf.Let's eliminate the automatic bye's....I mean Ohio State possibly a #5 having to play while #12 Boise gets a Bye? Just go with the top 4.....
Bama is #4 in F+ and a tier 1 team and would be an easy favorite vs ND.Well, good to see we moved up and would be hosting a game. But the opponent is not the one we probably would prefer, as Bama's still one of the most talented teams out there. Things will continue to change in the rankings, though.
I am really looking forward to SEC playing some games up north. Whole different ball game when they aren't playing in 70 degree weather in December. That’s awesome that ND is still ahead of Bama and Georgia. There’s even a little buffer with Miami there between Bama and Georgia/Ole Miss.

The automatic byes really have to go. If you want to have the P4 champ be in playoffs fine but eliminate the automatic bye. Boise St with a bye is a fricking joke. Lets get to 16 teams and eliminate this bye BSLet's eliminate the automatic bye's....I mean Ohio State possibly a #5 having to play while #12 Boise gets a Bye? Just go with the top 4.....
Lets hope not. Where we are now is the absolute worst position to be in. Play AL and if we win Oregon. We won't be matched up with Bama anyway when the final ranking comes out
Things will change. If ND wins Saturday they'll certainly move up one spot. Ideally Texas A&M beats Texas and that opens up a lot of things. I think ND in the 6th or 7th slot hosting is a great situation.Lets hope not. Where we are now is the absolute worst position to be in. Play AL and if we win Oregon.
Oregon could lose the Big 10 title game and that would solve your dilemma.Lets hope not. Where we are now is the absolute worst position to be in. Play AL and if we win Oregon.
I don't have a problem with it. It's a reward for playing and winning a 13th game, which at-large teams won't have done. So every team will have to win a total of 4 postseason games to win the championship.Let's eliminate the automatic bye's....I mean Ohio State possibly a #5 having to play while #12 Boise gets a Bye? Just go with the top 4.....
It’s also why I like the deal that Jack Swarbick negotiated for Notre Dame. So the flip side is, the SEC champion deserves the bye having to play game 13.I don't have a problem with it.
