Army - CFP

If Army goes 12-0, they should be in the playoffs over Boise State. I think the committee would make that happen.

A one loss Boise State should not be ranked ahead of the ACC or Big 12 champion unless maybe they have three losses. It’s a joke that a group of 5 would get a bye when they only played one Power 4 school.
Army's not going to go 12-0, dude. I know you're patriotic, but your loyalty is to ND, and we're kicking the shit out of them this weekend.

So what does it matter?

Again, I’m just talking football. Not everything I say has to involve ND or relate to ND.

Sort of. In this case, I think it involves ND a little too intimately. The only way Army could go 12-0 is by knocking ND out of the playoff. And the game's in like, two days.

So hypothetically yes, you could make the argument that Army is more deserving than Boise. But at what cost?

Me stating that is purely a hypothetical. I stated nothing about wanting to see them win against ND. “If Army goes 12-0” is what I said. It doesn’t matter if I’m an ND fan or not.

I took a look at army’s roster. Do they get more scholarship players or something. I saw they had like 20 + running backs on the roster I was looking at.

You're right, I get it. If Army goes 12-0 and beats us in the process, just saying. And they're pretty good, it's entirely possible. Then you think they should get in over Boise St. Even though in Boise's defense, they're undefeated too other than a last second loss to the #1 team in the country, undefeated Oregon. So they have a pretty strong argument as well, almost as strong as you could get including a loss into their profile. But of course, in this scenario Army will have actually beaten ND which would top it.

So I'm with you, Army should get in, if they go undefeated and beat a highly-ranked ND in the process, which would of course knock us out of the playoff as part of the aftermath.

you have a fair number of non scholarship players at the service academies. Lots of very fit young men there, you know.

fan is short for fanatic in some cases so those unable to uncouple that from their emotions will tend to look really stupid.
I would hate it to happen from a ND fan standpoint; but if it did I would cheer damn hard for them to make it into the playoffs and do well.

Army would be 6-6 in the SEC, and isn’t beating Notre Dame.

I'm not sure Army could beat any SEC team.
Take any non SEC P4 team and put them in the SEC and its a guarantee 2-3 more losses on their record (even an above average BIG10 team). The SEC is in a league of its own. The 85 man rosters are stacked with the best talent in the country and so are the coaching staffs.

All this back and forth about Army beating anyone in the SEC reminds me of a t-shirt that I bought a while ago. The top front read "An Irishman walked out of a bar." Below that it read "Really, it could happen". The fact that it took Navy 20 something years to finally beat Notre Dame again means that anything could happen.

If Army played a typical SEC schedule, you tell me, what would their conference record be? 5-3? 4-4? 3-5? 2-6?

Its funny because stats like FPI and F+ are built to answer this question. How would teams stack up if they were all playing the same level of competition?

According to F+ Army is ranked #27 in the country and would be 9th out of 16 SEC teams.

If we use FPI, Army is ranked #47, and they would be more like 13th of 16 SEC teams.

and this is like the best Army team this century.

Let me guess. They could beat LSU, Mississippi, and South Carolina.
They could beat Vandy, Miss state, Kentucky, Auburn, Oklahoma, Florida, Arkansas and maybe LSU on a given day

Would they, who knows. Can they with those teams, absolutely

To add...

its important to note that these advanced ranking systems are terrible at evaluating triple option teams that use ball control and use their offense to play keep away as a defense so Army could be much better or worse .. conservatively they probably fall somewhere in the middle of both of these systems.

LMFAO, your posts get more ridiculous by the day

And what if those SEC teams had to go to class and perform the other duties that the army cadets have to perform.

Do you think they could possibly field a seven man football team?

They are a service academy. Therefore there are no athletes on scholarship. Everyone is. Some guys are recruited specifically for football and they help them with the admissions/appointments. Others try out for the team. I'm interested to see how the 105 rule impacts them moving forward.

Appreciate the heads up.
I didn’t know they could have a 1000 players if they wanted .

Edit. Another poster got me up to speed about their deal. And it makes sense now.

They could beat a bunch of sec teams. It would depend on the day
No chance. It would be an absolute fluke. They'd be extremely fortunate to win one game of an 8 game SEC schedule. The worse team in the SEC is significantly more talented than Army. Beat a bunch ? Like who ?

Nonsense.

Vanderbilt lost to Georgia State.

Miss state got beat by Toledo by 24

Kentucky has 6 losses

Auburn lost to California

Oklahoma beat Houston by 4

Arkansas lost to Oklahoma State by 8

To act like Army couldn't beat any of these teams is an obvious SEC bias for sure.

If Army played a P4 schedule they would probably be a 6-6 team. Maybe 7-5. Injuries would be more prevelant and they don't have the depth.

Talk about nonsense. Army has their best victory against mighty East Carolina. They haven't played ANYONE. Sure maybe if they had one so so SEC team on their schedule and the stars aligned perfectly they could pull an upset. Nearly impossible for them to win more than one game against an SEC schedule. 1-7 at best.

The problem with Army playing an SEC schedule is playing the SEC week after week. They would not hold up. Nor should they. 2-6 would be my prediction.

Exactly. Not saying they couldn't pull an upset one time but zero chance they could have a .500 record in the SEC as someone suggested. They would be the least competitive team in the league. Whole different animal week in week out. One win would be an accomplishment.

Well, I have to go to a surprise birthday party at 6 p.m. Saturday, which means I can't watch the game. And that means I'll be peeking at my phone all night long, which means that this game is going to be agonizing, with ND eking out a 24-17 victory or something like that. Before you scoff at me, you should know that I've had to miss more games than I'd care to admit to over the past 20 years, and almost every time, it has come down to the wire. This year, I missed the second half of NIU and the fourth quarter of Louisville.

I am hoping Oregon wins it all just to wipe the smug smiles off the SEC assholes we have here

Call in sick hdk. We need you buddy!

All I have ever stated is that the SEC is the best top to bottom conference in CFB. Not a fan of the conference or their culture whatsoever.

That said, I do not believe any other conference is close.
