Buchner

But who is going to help him fix anything. TR?, no way...he will make him worse. Do we have a dedicated QB coach? If not MF needs to get one tomorrow.

The kid is exciting, no question. Has to stop giving up 14 points to the opposition though. That was a rollercoaster, great ending.

Right now I am thinking Buchner doesn't have much upside. He's been at the program for 2 years and seems to have shown his potential. I think he lacks consistent passing ability and the 3 interceptions speak to his lack of composure.

As always, I hope to be wrong. But I really feel ND needs a better QB to be a strong, top 10 team, all other things being equal...because transfers, NIL, and academic accommodation will mean more than ever.

The latter are the real pink elephants.

Are we talking about the same coach who turned Pyne into a positive player? Yes, he made a few bad decisions but this game is a taste of what’s to come next year for defenses because you are going to have to deal with an elite offense of line, elite skill players and a dynamic quarterback. Actually, I don’t really think it matters whether it’s Buchner or Hartman, we are going to have a top 10 offense next year. The real question is will either be good enough to beat Ohio State, USC, and/or Clemson,

Your post brings up another thing I forgot to mention...the OL also have played badly too many times.

I really am lacking in knowledge on why this is so, as the OL seems to have good talent. Is it really on HH? Can he fix this or is it time to consider an upgrade to HH? Or maybe the OL isn't as good as I think?

🤔

I’m rooting for Buchner, kid is super like able and represents what ND is about. Part of me is sad that college football has changed and we don’t get to ride or die with the original guy and see him develop.

He is a gamer, has the it factor but has been the victim of injury and has not had a ton of reps/experience dating back to his sr year of high school. While I realize Hartman is an immediate upgrade, I won’t be sad if he doesn’t come here and we roll with Buchner in 2023. LFG!

Can be the guy....

It was maddening. But you can see if he fixes some things what he can be. I get it
I thought the same thing. He can be “it”. The ability to run is elite. Toughness is elite. I think he’s the right kind of leader too.

Given all the circumstances, the guy battled his ass off tonight. Pretty damn impressive.

Even if Hartman is the guy next year, I really hope Buchner stays. Another year learning to throw, then he’s the guy maybe in 24.

Buchner is awesome and deserves credit for the win today. But I still think Hartman is better. Let them compete and we will see

I think he'll be ready next season
I think he will be physically ready also, but is never beating Sam Hartman.

He is going to have his hands full with Minchey or another transfer in 24.

He has a long way to go learning to read defense and throw the football

Right now, no hes not

In 10 months, I'm not so sure

He’s been a TO fest since he started. He better clean that up for sure
Absolutely.

You can clean up your game. Hes started 3 games since 2019

You cant teach talent though.

He gives the offense some exciting possibilities

TR weakness is playcalling and game prep. His QB coaching is TR's strength. Just look at what he did with Book and Pyne.

Im a little nervous Hartman hasn’t committed yet. Might have been waiting to see. I think Buchner showed a lot of potential today. Hope it didn’t scare Hartman off.

55 % CP and 3 INT’s 2 of which go for TD’s doesn’t qualify as an awesome performance

But a win is always good !

I like his ceiling

I am a fan for sure. Lots of work to be done but…

Funny you like him. He is a Book clone.

He has to stay healthy to have any chance of reaching his potential. He has tools for sure, but he’s definitely got a long way to go. Poor man’s John Elway at best

Potential ?

How ?

55 % CP

3 INT’s two of which went for SC TD’s

What facet of his game leads you to believe that he has signifIcant upside potential ?

I mean the guy started off at OSU. Tough to gain confidence in a game like that. OL and WR were green then.

He looked much more confident tonight

He was terrible against Marshall. I’ll give him a pass vs OSU although he did start that game well 8/8 I believe

No hes not....

Hes better at running and the rpo game. Hes not as accurate as Book. I think he stays in the pocket and throws downfield while getting hit that Book didnt like to do. Buchner changes arm angles much better

I dont think they are that similar

TB is the furrure of ND football at QB for atleast one more year. Hartman is not going to ND next year based off of tonight’s game.

I always thought he's a poor man's Ian Book!

He can be better than Book IMO.

OH, and make no mistake. I definitely don’t think he’ll ever be half of a John Elway either. Lol. There’s just “some” similarities in their game. Elway was accurate and had a rocket. Buchner doesn’t have either of those traits
