Was at Ole miss last year, a Purdue prior. Teams finished between 99-114 rated the last 3 years. Why would we hire someone that’s ST didn’t produce?

Ole Miss hardly ever punted. Also didn't get punted too

Lol. ND is a sad football program. Guys are getting out before another 4-8 season happens.

Confusing hire other than trying to just get a warm body asap

Apparently, the ND coaching staff does not think so. Maybe, just maybe, Freeman and others did some due diligence, listen to people actually in the industry, know he was an analyst at ND prior and was up for the ST coach prior --

Obviously (or thank goodness) they did not consult you.

You take things and yourself really seriously. Most people laugh at how pathetic the football program is right now.
"Most people laugh at how pathetic the football program is right now."

No -- mostly we all laugh at you -- between you and Get Nasty, we are trying to determine who is the most idiotic -- right now, it is neck and neck (with Notre Dame Du Lac running a close 3rd)

ST coaching performance is really predicated a great deal by the mindset of the head coach.

For example, did Purdue or ole miss let starters and high ranked freshmen play special teams? If they didn't, then they aren't going to be so good.

If freeman tells the new coach, hey look, we are going to fair catch almost every punt and since we are doing that, your job is to block punts...then the punt blocking is going to be good, but the returns...not so much.

If the guy can recruit hard and get the sts to play hard it will be fine.

Pathetic? Our coaches are proving to be first rate -- 30 year old Rees to the best CFB in the country and maybe the GOAT at HC (he'll be in the NFL in two years). Mason gets his dream job with the Colts in Indy, his home town. Harry retired (again) and yes, it is time. We got two solid coaches (OL-QB) in exchange for Rees-Harry and a third at OC who many feel is a coach on the rise (I believe an upgrade overall). Biagi nearly got the ST job when Mason got it (Mason was excellent but this is not a big step down). We were 9-3 last year with a brand new coach and new coaches and a young OC in his first year without his offensive HC/mentor in Kelly, and after losing our starting QB midway through game #2! We won our bowl game, beat a top 5 team, in '23 we had our best recruiting year since 2012 and are having a better year in '24. We acquired probably the best transfer in the portal at QB, boasted our WR ranks and our DL and CB ranks...

That is far from pathetic. But hey, maybe it is time to turn on formula 1, life is short air zee.

No fair bringing logic to the discussion. He can't comprehend it.

“Marty Biagi, widely heralded among the college football world as one of the consummate special teams coaches in the industry, is on the move.”

That was written a year ago when he was being hired by lane Kiffen … but the geniuses around here think he’s a panic hire. Ok.
It’s the usual drips that just whine or troll

Well he wouldn't be a panic hire in any event. That sort of pejorative wouldn't really apply. He's just a regular hire, like any time a coach gets hired If you were intent on ripping this dude, you would say that the team he most recently coached for, had poor special team scores, and ratings. I could give a shit about special teams coach, only one I got bothered by was our OC, and on that one we indubitably got a 2nd-rate/3rd-rate type guy. Or worse.

And apparently, in defiance of Ole Miss' lousy special teams, this guy's like one of the great ST coaches going today. And is heralded as a consummate, a consummate ST coach, in 'the industry'. So that's lovely, then.....

I've never seen ND fans quite so desperate to spin everything in a positive light. And that has nothing to do with this particular coach, who presumably is a perfectly good, qualified, capable enough coach. Even though it is fair to say he probably won't match the exploits of this past season with Mason, which were exceptional.

It's not quite the same as the active and willful intellectual dishonesty and coach-slandering of BK and any coach significantly associated with him. But it's in the same ballpark, obviously. Kind of the mirror image of that. I guess it's just all part of BK's legacy. He really did a serious number on ND fans. And while it's fading with time, BK derangement syndrome is still going.....

You either live in a world where you look at the positive aspect of things, or you look at the negative aspect. Judging by the reactions of many here, they live in a negative-infested world.

Oh is that so? I'm not even sure wtf you even mean. But I remember a lot more sneering and/or scoffing, and at least a nice normal, healthy and human cynicism and skepticism about previous hires. Now everything is damn unicorns and rainbows, and bending over backwards so as to insist how good we're making out no matter what happens, or who we hire. It's palpable.

It's not like it's going to make any difference to whatever happens on the field, quite obviously. But nevertheless there's this bit of compulsion to think positively going around. Which in general is not a good omen for the future. In life, if you're having to pump yourself up to feel good about things. Just sayin....

Aren't you the guy who said the hallmark of a strong program is losing coaches off of an 8-4 staff? If you and the other FSPs (Freeman Sunshine Pumpers) carry any more water for Marcus, you will need a chiropractor on permanent retainer.

I would disagree. I think there are people who are realists and can see the positive and negative. I think that there are a bunch of posters that always criticize others if they are not wearing rose colored glasses.

It is the sign of a strong program. Sorry if you don't understand the difference between an indicator and a " hallmark ".

Your narrative regarding Notre Dame Football is disingenuous.

Biagi is a two-time finalist for the Football Scoop Special Teams Coordinator of the year,

He is also known as a very good recruiter with strong connections to Texas and Louisiana. Two hotbeds of talent.

Mason was a dog, he left ND for his dream job -- what are we going to do, chain him to a college football job he doesn't want.

We got a well respected, experienced guy to take over. His kickers have been amongst the best in CFB. Overall, a solid hire. Go Irish.
