The heroes of this season are Elko and the strength and conditioning coach Matt Balis. Night and day difference between this year's track record of no injuries and defensive performance and last years.

Kelly/Long both lost the Georgia game with an abysmal offensive coached game. How they thought they were going to beat an SEC team playing 9 men in the box with a new QB throwing to scrubs Smith and Canteen is beyond me. Georgia's simple game plan to take away the run and double EQ worked like a charm. Of course also not playing a shifty back like Dexter Williams against a defense where his skill set was in dire need was beyond dumb even for Brian Kelly standards.

For those calling for a playoff spot need to get back to reality. Yes ND is talented enough to make the playoffs and compete for a national title. However as long as Brian Kelly is on the sidelines dumb decisions and bad karma will cost us otherwise avoidable losses.

Fortunately for us USC's coach doesn't put a lot of fear in me as I don't think he's the sharpest tool in the shed either. However one or more of the teams on our remaining schedule will trip us up if USC doesn't.

I wouldn't call anyone a hero. We're playing better defense. It could only improve considering. How much better are we will be on display Saturday night. To this point though we're a good respectable football team again. That alone is back on the right track.
BK and his deranged decisions...unfortunately the season is half over but it also means there's a half season worth of opportunity to call timeouts bevayse he's confused about punting or not, calls the timeout, then punts. Or empty set first and goal situations. Many of these scenarios lie ahead.

But you're right. I wish you weren't but the one lone real test we've had we lost.

nd could win the nattie and there will be some here who will not credit kelly one iota. he gets all of the blame when things go bad and none of the credit when things go well. amusing to say the least.

"Kelly/Long both lost the Georgia game with an abysmal offensive coached game."

So, the fumbles had no bearing on that game? The dropped passes had no bearing on that game? The circus catches by Georgia had not bearing on that game?

Yes, the offense could have played better, it is up to the "scrubs" to catch the ball when thrown. If They had thrown to EQ, who was double-teamed all noght, you still would be bitching.

As someone else mentioned -- ND could win a natty -- but you and many others will still curse Kelly.

Hey coaching evaluator genius, what would you have done to improve the offensive game plan? You are good a whining. Wimbush did not pass very well, the WR could not catch a cold. So what magic solution would have made this a victory? Even with the plan in place the Irish were driving for a game-winning FG until WB fumble

I'll say at least give Dexter Williams some carries in the game. It certainly seemed obvious, but it never happened.

The Georgia game wasn't the offense's finest hour. If there was a game Kelly would pull the plug on Long; it would have been that game. There comes a time in every head coach career that he evolves into the coach of the whole team. It's at that moment said coach transforms into a complete coach and does his best work. I suspect Kelly will have his best years at ND until he retires to that beach to enjoy his kids and grandkids. He mentions it a lot at his weekly news conferences. He's developing some nasty age lines along his cheekbones. The pressure is finally getting to him.

This is a bit inaccurate.

Long has installed a power running game that is allowing the Irish to roll like we have not seen an extremely long time.

The Georgia game with the second game of the season there were still growing pains with a new coaching staff

That is fine to say give Dexter the rock. However, Adams is no slouch and he did not have consistent #'s there. I would say Dexter would have had difficulty also. Georgia's D was great. Opening drive could have provided the Irish with a TD. it did not work out. There was dropped balls and bad QB decisions throughout the game, WB is still a work in progress. we are still better off with WB at QB.

and yet despite all that georgia needed a miraculous catch by their wide receiver to win the game. nd never gets beat. they only lose. georgia deserves no credit.

You guys kill me with bickering back and forth about who's fault the Georgia loss was

Well see what some of you don't get is it's Kelly's fault because he's yet to win one of those types of games. Not even one on accident.

So until he wins one finally...if he ever does...those type of losses are on him akways...even if technically they aren't. He dug this ditch.

If BK had won several of those big games then sure the blame would go where it's deserved...maybe the drops, fumbles, etc.

But he still hasn't won a big one so he will continue to get blamed no matter.

You obviously didn’t watch a single game prior to this year?

It’s hard to go 12-0 twice without winning those games. But you don’t understand football, you just post anti-Kelly posts on a free board. Cool. Carry on.

So Kelly & Long get no credit for the 5 wins?

Also, you realize they have nothing to do with players making/not making plays on the field?

Just go back to football video games & stop rooting for ND. No one will miss you.

Actually we won't miss you and your acceptance of failure.

How many bridges of hugs and love did you give out today?

Seriously...we criticize a coach who's track record speaks for itself in big games.

Somehow you find it warming of the heart or some shit to defend a coach who chokes on big games and makes some of the dumbest damn decisions in the history of coaching.

The go for twos, the timeouts to punt the ball are absolute classics and have been a staple of your ****ing hero.

No ****ing thanks.

Never ceases to amaze me.... 5-1 (coming off a 4-8 season) with a one point lose to the #3 team in the country (granted we played bad)..... and people still find ways to come at Coach BK! People just love to b*tch and moan.

I assume we will lose one, maybe two more games this year.... and I am fine with that because I am realistic. I am happy with the improvements and direction of the team.... you negative nellies can go kick rocks somewhere else and bitch about something else.

I would say problem is one score games not big games. And that has been lately. 2012 we won a lot of close games. By far this is a big game. Winner advances loser gets a decent bowl not the same as playoffs

I too was pissed after the Georgia game. Maybe Dex could have broke one or his hitting the hole .25 sec faster would have resulted in another big play that lead to a FG and a win. Or maybe Georgia doesn’t drop the wide open catch and the game is still lost? Idk.

One, two or three plays doesn’t make a difference because the other side can also point to a few plays on their side. Georgia fans certainly can.

As for the defense and S&C program... there’s obvious improvement there. They’ve not faced a complete offense yet though. Even Georgia’s offense was apathetic. IMO we know little of where this groups ceiling is. We know they tackle and rush the passer better then at any other point under Kelly save 2012. However, USC can set all of that back or we can end the night knowing that the defense is legit.

Win the next two games and I’ll be ready to admit that the Irish are legit. Even if they go on to lose the two road games, the season would be a success for me.

Irish playing very well this year. Having watched most of the USC games I think ND will likely win. But tough schedule ahead. Right now I think Stanford will be toughest team the rest of the year.

footballiIrish, I guess it is safe to say, you are not a Kelly fan. Fair enough. Pull for the assistant coaches. If their team wins, you and I will still be happy.

BK II is 2-1 vs teams with a pulse. The 2nd season starts soon and we'll see.
