At least for this year Gator Bowl win is better

Minor bowl- major bowl - they are all players busting their ass to win the last game with their brothers in their season. It is not up to us fans to determine if it was worth it or not. Go Irish - next year and all the years.

It's definitely not better than being in the playoff. That's silly. Whether it's better than not losing to Tulane in one of the prestige New Years Day bowls, who knows. But the Gator bowl is a fairly venerable 2nd tier bowl itself that I remember from my childhood....

Only thing that really matters is that we won, and it was significant that we did. That would have been, if not disastrous, then definitely bad, and not good at all for MF, to have lost his 2nd bowl game running, and to finish the season a very mediocre 8-5, rather than the much preferable 9-4. So to have avoided that is a big positive for the program.

than miserable endings for teams like Michigan, USC and Ohio State
I think ND has found their place in college football. They can win games like they did Dec. 30. They lost by double digits to OSU and USC.

Notre Dame is in over it’s head against big time competition. $C beat ND easily but lost to Tulane and Utah. I can’t believe ND has fallen that far down.

Losing 30-3 in the playoff is awesome!

Thats just silly
If you’re TCU, Bama, UGA, etc. it’s a silly statement but not when we’re talking about ND.

ND’s been humiliated three times in the last decade on that stage. They don’t belong there. It’s much better for the brand to be in a game you belong in. Many on here have stated Notre Dame is an academic school first and foremost. Can’t have it both ways.

Great win last Friday. A guaranteed playoff loss by four TD’s is pointless and only hurts recruiting when the mockery memes are seen for months.

You’re clearly trolling but I’ll bite.

😀

ND has done remarkably well under Brian Kelly with a solid transition to Freeman. Especially considering the restrictions compared to abuses at semipro factory schools. Yes, the brand endures, giving ND a fighting chance for strong seasons, despite not winning a NC since 1988.

As such, ND deserved every one of its playoff appearances. Beat many strong teams with solid schedules achieving this. Still puts lots of players in NFL, even if most aren’t the skill positions.

Hence it’s ignorant to say ND is a guaranteed playoff loss. Using terms like humiliated that just don’t apply in the greater context. Finally, we will see as NIL, transfers, total academic capitulation, and opt outs challenge even established football factory schools.

Again, you’re trolling here.

Tulane and Utah are very good football teams.

Tulane will probably be a top 10 and so will Utah if they beat PSU.

But let’s face it, you’re an anti-ND guy and a major douche bag, so go to another site as you add nothing to this one !

Alabama lost by an even wider margin to Clemson that year and two years later Notre Dame played Alabama and lost by 17 while Ohio State lost by 28 to Alabama, so what’s your point douche bag ?

Only 4 teams make the playoffs and ND Keeps being one of them.

Go to another site douche bag !

No doubt would take a close loss in a playoff. That said, Harbaugh is trying to leave again and their recruiting is down. His model of tryin to leave and not recruit isn’t sustainable for playoffs.

Can you imagine those teams being that close and coaches crap their pants . Kinda like Kelly always did in post season games except for Boykin bailing him out.

"They lost by double digits to OSU and USC."

Semantics -- in BOTH of those games, ND was into the game well into the 4th quarter. It is not like they got blown out. The OSU game was a 4 point difference mid-way into the 4th -- ND simply had no passing game to speak of. USC -- 2 costly turnovers and a bad call by the OC to go for it on 4th down -- ND was driving after the half prior to the TO -- it was only a 3 point game at that point.

Look at the positive spin -- better to head to the off-season with a win vs a loss.

Don't get me wrong, Kelso. Whatever bowl we are in, I want to win. I just think we need to aspire to be in the playoffs. Better to be in the playoffs and lose than to win a minor bowl, IMO.
