While Notre Dame football news has been upbeat, this has been a terrible week for college football — and the nation in general —leading to the cancellation of multiple games in the SEC and elsewhere. This includes No. 1 Alabama vs. LSU and No. 3 Ohio State against Maryland. In the ACC it's been Pitt-Georgia Tech.

November 13: This Day In Notre Dame History

The Irish are 14-3, most recently in Brian Kelly's first year (2010), defeating No. 15 Utah 28-3 to begin a turnaround from a 4-5 start.

Bronze Medal, 1943: Continuing its march to the first of four national titles under head coach Frank Leahy, Notre Dame defeats its fourth top-10 ranked team of the season with a 25-6 win at No. 8 Northwestern. In his second career start, John Lujack throws two touchdown passes to Bob Kelly.

Silver Medal, 1976: The University of Alabama with legendary head coach Bear Bryant makes its first trip to Notre Dame in the initialregular season meeting between the two schools. In two previous meetings, the Irish had defeated the Crimson Tide by 1 (24-23) in the 1973 Sugar Bowl to capture the national title, and then beat another 11-0 Alabama team by 2 (13-11) in the Orange Bowl the following year.
The symmetry continues with a 3-pointer (21-18) this time. QB Rick Slager completes 15 of 23 passes for 235 yards and a score while staking the Irish to a 21-7 first-half lead before getting injured later. Freshman Vagas Ferguson makes his starting debut and rushes for 107 yards, highlighted by a 17-yard score. But with the score 21-18 in the closing minutes and Alabama inside the Irish 10, Jim Browner intercepts a pass in the end zone.
"I don't reckon I'll be around for the four-pointer," Bryant lamented afterwards, noting the 1980 meeting in Birmingham.

Gold Medal, 1993: For only the third time in Notre Dame Stadium history, No. 1 (Florida State) meets No. 2 (Notre Dame) with the national title hanging in the balance. FSU opens the scoring with a 90-yard touchdown drive, but Notre Dame's physicality takes control from there, outscoring the Seminoles 31-10 over the next 54 minutes before a final pass into the end zone by Heisman winner Charlie Ward is batted away by Shawn Wooden to elevate the 10-0 Irish to the spot and increase the winning streak to 17, the second longest at the school since 1950.
Remarkably, it is ND's seventh win in 24 seasons against a team ranked No. 1 in the AP or coaches polls. You may have heard about this game in the last couple of weeks.

Will Coach Kelly Reach 300 wins before retirement from Coaching College Football?

I would like to believe Notre Dame will be Coach Brian Kelly's last stop in Coaching College Football. However, in order to win 300 games coach Kelly would need to stay at Notre Dame or coach at another destination at least five to seven more years. Is it possible that Coach Kelly would stay at Notre Dame another three seasons and then leaves for another college football program? I just feel that the NFL coaching gigs have passed him by and that if he wants to continue coaching to achieve 300 wins it will be at Notre Dame or another school. Would Notre Dame keep Coach Kelly for another 5 to 7 years to reach the 300 wins? If so, the only way to keep Coach Lea in that instance would be as a coach in waiting type hire.

george rooks question

the main rivals site has nd still heavily in the mix for rooks. i thought nd had moved on from him months ago?

Recruiting outlook: Syracuse is fighting to hold onto a lead for Rooks. Michigan and Notre Dame are major contenders in his recruitment too. The Fighting Irish have done a fantastic job recruiting his high school over the last couple years. There are a few other teams still in the mix but those are the two major contenders at this point. A commitment is still pretty far off.

ACC Winter Sports Safety Standards

The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today the updated protocols for winter sports within the league’s Medical Advisory Group Report. The report specifically addresses enhanced safety standards and testing measures in basketball, wrestling and low transmission risk sports.

Today’s updated MAG Report calls for all team members, and those in close contact with the teams in men’s and women’s basketball and wrestling, to be tested three times each week on non-consecutive days. One molecular (PCR) test must be administered within three days of the first competition of the week. The visiting team must have results from the test performed within three days prior to the competition before the team travels to the site. A test shall also be administered within 48 hours of the conclusion of a game and may be either a molecular (PCR) or antigen test.

Men’s and women’s basketball officials will be required to test three times per week and will undergo symptom and temperature checks upon arrival at the venue. Any personnel seated at the scorer’s table(s) must complete a symptom and temperature check upon arrival at the venue and wear a face covering at all times. Wrestling officials shall be tested once per week.

While in season, any team member who leaves the institution for more than three days (ex. NCAA-mandated holiday break), must quarantine for 24 hours upon return to campus. During quarantine, team members will be tested with a molecular (PCR) test and may return to practice if, and when, the result is negative. In addition, team members must record a second negative test (either PCR or antigen) prior to the first competition following the break.

As previously announced, every student-athlete who tests positive will undergo a cardiac evaluation that includes an electrocardiogram, a troponin test and an echocardiogram before a phased return to exercise.

In addition to the updated ACC MAG report, the ACC has significantly adjusted its 2020-21 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Game Management protocols. Specifically, there must be a minimum of 15 feet separating the general public and the areas on the court occupied by essential personnel (team bench/scorer’s table, etc.). Individuals deemed essential to have access within the 15-foot perimeter will be required to meet specific and consistent health and safety standards as agreed upon by all 15 schools, including a temperature screening, symptom check, physical distancing and masking.

November 12: This Day In Notre Dame History

The Irish are 11-4, most recently defeating Army 44-6 in 2016 for its final win of a miserable 4-8 season.

Bronze Medal, 1949: With Notre Dame-Army having ended their series that was played mostly in New York City (especially Yankee Stadium) from 1913-47, North Carolina agrees to fill in for this season at NYC. Led by Heisman runner-up Charlie "Choo Choo" Justice, the Tar Heels take an early 6-0 lead before Heisman winner Leon Hart and the No. 1 Irish record their 35th straight game without a loss, 42-6. It is the first meeting with the Tar Heels.

Silver Medal, 1938: For the first time since the AP poll began two years earlier, 7-0 Notre Dame moves to No. 1 following a 19-0 shutout at home of that year's Big 10 champ, Minnesota, a superpower back then under Bernie Bierman with national titles in 1936, 1940 and 1941. It also is the last meeting with the Golden Gophers, the longest current ND drought with any Big Ten foe.

Gold Medal, 1977: In my opinion, this is one of the five most underrated or overshadowed victories in Notre Dame history. En route to the national title, the No. 5-ranked Green Machine enters the fourth quarter at Death Valley trailing 17-7 in its first meeting ever with Clemson, ranked No. 15. The Irish overcome some shady officiating, driving about 110 yards while overcoming calls to cut it to 17-14, and then win 21-17 on a second sneak in for a TD by QB Joe Montana. Clemson had ND on the ropes at 17-7 before fumbling at the Irish 15. An earlier Clemson TD on fourth down was aided by an official's "block" that is included in this video.

Whats happening with the pirate?

We've seen that after a first week surprise that Mississippi state has fallen flat and the offense has been neutered. Does Leach and his offense not translate to the SEC, or is it just having his kind of guys on the roster?

I've heard that there has been a bit of a mutiny and kids are leaving or given up. I dont buy the defenses are different in the SEC line. Seems like you get the right type of players and the scheme could do well.
