ND has solely focused on a few select grad transfer kids. They must be willing to recruit over existing roster for quality undergrads. The portal is now a huge free agent market.

What is the deal with him? Is he going to take a medical hardship?

Just matched ND's entire offensive output in the first quarter.

I know with covid and the eligibility stuff it's hard to tell, but based on what we expect to happen who will look strong next season.


Oklahoma. Rattler looks like he's getting better and better. Seems like they have a solid foundation. Now with an improved defense. Not sure about turnover at skill positions, but arent the running backs young?


Georgia. Turned the corner once the QB from USC started playing. I know that the Cinncy game was to close but, the dawgs had several starters opting out. Will have to review how many kids are leaving, but they where the one that I thought after Oklahoma.

Schools like Bama, Clemson and Ohio state will have major, major holes to fill. All the QBs are gone. The Rbs and majority of the wide receivers too.


Arizona state should win the Pac 10. Like what Herm is doing there. Team has bought in and it looks like he's recruiting well and the portal is helping.

UCLA will look better too. Seems like the offense finally cought on and most kids will return.

Any other schools I'm missing?


Edit: not saying UCLA is top ten, just that they should compete for conference title.

All respect to Ian Book. He's a great COLLEGE quarterback and a "Winner," but to truly win the games that matter we need an ELITE QB. After watching Justin Fields, Mac Jones, and Trevor Lawrence throw 50 & 60 yard balls on a dime this year not to mention the rushing ability of 2 of the above QB's, I am sincerely jealous and convinced ND has to get a QB of this caliber to win the Big Games consistently. This is the University of Notre Dame for God's sake; why are we incapable of getting a high caliber or generational type QB. Who is to blame or what needs to change? I'm excited for Buchner but he's not a legit 6'4"/6'6" 5⭐prospect.

It's awesome that we have so many people on this board that are so much smarter than Kelly, Tommy and Lea. While you dbags are in your flannel jammies in your moms basement being critical of everything the staff does and you all know exactly how to correct they have gone 33-5 over the last three years and I am happy with the trajectory of this program. It would be awesome to hear what you putzs do for a living while correcting everything wrong with this program.

I am fully aware of the 10,000 rebuttals about why we can’t hire him, etc... but if you want to win championships go get him. I think he wants to coach at ND you just need to call him.

is it just me, or do we not have an offense ( on paper ) to mimic a Wisconsin type offense? It's all Power and hardly any finesse.
Yes, TE is important, but it seems we have more options at TE than WR.

Why does it seem Kelly is over recruiting TEs and under recruiting Elite talent at WR? I get that we have talent, but not one WR is scary and not one WR was given the chance to stay hot..

McKinley and Skowronek should've been a possession type WR that's a nightmare for DBs. Back shoulder passes and quick slants should've been fed to them consistently.

We have 4 or so TEs that can probably be two deep on everyone's team yet we don't have one WR that anybody would pickup for a side game of backyard football.

How can you put up points when you really have no identity or use the weopons you have correctly and way more consistently? Its frustrating seeing talent not being used properly or AGAIN consistently. You have to keep feeding hot hands.

When I tune into pundits like Cowherd, I hear the refrain that ND is in the middle of nowhere and lacks a recruiting backyard.

Quietly, however, the talent level in Indiana HS football is improving and should inure to our benefit. This year, conceivably, we could meet needs for stud DL (Curry, Strickland, Kenneth Clark (6’4 DT from Merrillville)), dual threat QB (6’5” state champ winning Tayven Jackson), franchise left tackle (Goodwin), and dynamic slot (Omar Hunter), not to mention Tanona.

McGrone, Fisher, Rondale Moore, David Bell, McCulley, Werner, show there is an uptick in talent in our “backyard”. This is just a hypothesis, maybe recent years are anomalous though.

A lot has been made of our receivers' inability to create separation and essentially go dark on game days. It doesn't make sense when you look at the players we've been recruiting there. Last year the staff wrote an article about the '18-19 WR haul and graded it an "A" on paper- higher than they ranked RB, OL, and TE, and the only reason QB beat it out was Phil. The 2020 class adds Jordan Johnson a 5 star, and instant impact guy according to Lemming.

WR is a position underclassmen contribute immediately across the country. Why is our group different? Underdeveloped? Overhyped? Our "contributers" were 4th and 5th year Sr... I don't get it.

14 semi finals and 3 have been within 20 points and yes we are one of them. That is crazy. Don’t expand. Honestly I would say the data says contraction back to bcs is more warranted.

I know our TE room is stacked and who knows what his academics look like but why not add to our strength

loss of my very Close Friend,Paual Hornung,a classmate of mine at ND---Paul was very close,personal friends
with the Tyler Buchner Family in Calif.-Kelly & his coaches knew nothing about Tyler Buchner,the QB,until PH
called Kelly & told him to get out & recruit Tyler Buchner,because he wanted to go to ND---barring injury,
PH told me many times that Tyler Buchner might quite possibly become "the greatest QB in ND history",that is
how great PH thought Tyler was/and PH saw him play on several occasions.SO,IF /WHEN TYLER BUCHNER LEADS
ND TO A NAT. CH.,GIVE ALL THE CREDIT TO PAUL HORNUNG,GOD BLESS HIM.

I wrote an emotional post on TR noting how his lack of experience and poor play calling cost ND another chance at a National Championship. The offense has been what has limited ND for the past several years and under 3 or 4 different OC's. Perhaps it isn't the OC's that is the problem. Maybe it's the offensive philosophy. The philosophy not only dictates the type of plays but also the type of players. Saban checked his defensive ego at the door and acknowledged that football has changed and that offense is what wins championships in todays football. Is it time for BK to go back to his earlier offensive acumen and run the fast break offensive with some of his current smash mouth football sprinkled in? He ran a much more aggressive offense prior to ND and, if nothing else, o$u and Al has proven that an aggressive offense gets you to the national championship. The defense has done enough (post VanGorder) to allow ND to win National Championships. Now it's the offenses turn to pull its weight!

I did not see anyone question why Kelly told super speedy Chris Tyree to simply fair catch the kick-offs instead of trying to return one for a score ? I mean a KO return takes 10 seconds off the clock and is a huge momentum changer. It is like he simply waived the white flag towards Bama saying, we don't think one of the fastest players in the nation can get past the 25 against your coverage, so we will simply fair catch it. Can you imagine Holtz telling Rocket to fair catch a kick-off ???
