Basketball MBB: New 2026 offer to Notre Dame legacy

Cameron Holmes, the No. 20 overall recruit in 2026, reported a Notre Dame offer Thursday. Holmes is the younger brother of Daron Holmes II, who was drafted with the No. 22 overall pick in last night's NBA Draft and landed on the Denver Nuggets in a trade with the Phoenix Suns.

Daron Holmes II, 6-foot-9 forward/center, spent three seasons at Dayton. Cameron Holmes is a 6-5, 175-pound shooting guard from Goodyear (Ariz.) Millennium. Their father, Daron Holmes, is a Notre Dame graduate. He didn't play basketball in college after playing at Chicago's Mount Carmel High.

Track phenom Drew Griffith heading to Notre Dame with grounded perspective

On the résumé for incoming Notre Dame runner Drew Griffith:

He won the national boys cross country championship in December, set a national record for the fastest indoor 2-mile run by a high school runner in Boston in March (8:34.91), crushed Alan Webb’s 23-year-old national high school federation record in the 1,600-meter run at the PIAA Class 3A state meet (3:57.08) in Shippensburg, Pa. on May 24, broke the state record in the 3,200 the next day (8:43.72), and on May 30 in St. Louis ran the first of two four-minute miles in less than a three-week span.

That one, at the HOKA Festival of Miles, made him the 22nd ever high schooler to do so, and his time of 3:57.72 is the fifth-fastest on record among them.

Story from @Eric Hansen:

Former Notre Dame runner Yared Nuguse qualifies for USA Track & Field Olympic team

Yared Nuguse has qualified for the Olympics once again.

The former Notre Dame runner finished second in the men's 1,500-meter run on Monday in Eugune, Ore., at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for track and field with a teime of three minutes and 30.86 seconds.. Cole Hocker pulled ahead of Nuguse on the final lap to set a trials record with a 3:30.59.

Nuguse qualified for the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021, but he missed the games due to an injury. Nuguse won the 2019 NCAA Championship in the 1,500 during his sophomore season at Notre Dame.

Former Notre Dame runner Olivia Markezich moved a step closer to qualifying for Team USA on Monday by finishing third among all heats in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Markezich, the 2023 NCAA Champion in the steeplechase, finished her Notre Dame career earlier this year with a NCAA runner-up finish in the steeplechase and 3,000-meter run. She'll attempt to qualify for the Olympics in Thursday night's steeplechase final.

Other Notre Dame results from the first four nights at the trials:

• Women's heptathlon - Jadin O'Brien - finished 7th with 6,108 points - only winner Anna Hall (6,614) met Olympic standard.

• Women's steeplechase - Sophie Novak - finished 17th (9:49:55) in the first round - 14 qualified for final.

• Men's steeplechase - CJ Singleton - finished 22nd (8:41:45) in the first round - 14 qualified for final.

• Men's shot put - Michael Schoaf - finished 24th of 24 in first round with throw of 18.45 meters.

***Rivals has a new look today***

Rivals launched a brand refresh today that includes new logos, a new font and new presentations of homepages and articles.

As is the case with major overhauls, there will be some issues that need to be ironed out with this launch. So please be patient with us as we get those fixed. We're still learning what we can customize on our homepage, and we'll start to make tweaks when we can. I think the mobile site looks really good right now.

I love the brand presentation. A much needed refresh for a legacy brand.

This launch coincides with the return of the Rivals Five-Star later this week in Jacksonville, Fla. I'll be flying down this evening ahead of the two-day event, so expect to see plenty of fresh recruiting content from me this week.

Basketball MBB: Notre Dame's recent official visitors

Notre Dame men's basketball hosted a pair of 2025 targets on official visits this past week.

Unrated center Christian Gurdak started the week at Notre Dame. He made an official visit to Virginia Tech earlier in June, but I feel pretty good about ND's chances for Gurdak right now.

Four-star guard Dante Allen made his official visit later in the week. He was coming off an unofficial visit to Villanova earlier in the month. Notre Dame's definitely a contender here, but Villanova might be slightly better positioned for the No. 90 overall prospect in the class right now.

Recruiting Four-star DE Elijah Golden likes intensity of Notre Dame coaching staff

Elijah Golden was already interested in Notre Dame before receiving an offer earlier this year. That interest has only grown after a camp workout with ND's staff this month.

Rivals Five-Star: OL vs. DL reps

I thought I'd share this to add some context to the performances of Notre Dame commits Owen Strebig and Christopher Burgess Jr. from the Rivals Five-Star. So you can see what some of the other top offensive and defensive linemen in the country look like doing these 1-on-1s with pads or helmets.

HKY: Incoming freshman Nick Kempf selected in fourth round of NHL Draft

Nick Kempf has already been selected in the NHL Draft before he's even played a game at Notre Dame.

The Washington Capitals picked ND's incoming freshman goaltender in the fourth round of the NHL Draft on Saturday with overall selection No. 114.

Kempf, a product of Morton Grove, Ill., spent the last two seasons playing for USA Hockey's National Team Development Program with the U17 and U18 teams. He played in 67 games with a 38-18 record, a 3.47 goals against average and .883 save percentage with five shutouts in those two seasons.

Kempf became the 98th NHL Draft pick in Notre Dame program history. Six of Kempf's Irish teammates have previously been selected in the draft: Blake Biondi (Montreal Canadiens in 2020), Justin Janicke (Seattle Kraken in 2021), Brennan Ali (Detroit Red Wings in 2022), Paul Fischer (St. Louis Blues in 2023), Cole Knuble (Philadelphia Flyers in 2023) and Danny Nelson (New York Islanders in 2023).

NHL organizations retain the rights of NCAA players for four years upon being drafted.

Third Annual Golic SubPar Classic

The Golic SubPar Classic is this upcoming weekend, and the silent auction for the event is now live.

The Golic Family Foundation raises money through the event for charities in the South Bend area, such as Logan Center, Center for the Homeless, Cultivate Food Rescue, Humane Society of St. Joseph County, Food Bank of Northern Indiana and South Bend Animal Resource Center.

It looks like there may still be availability to purchase a ticket to the welcome party on Saturday night or spots for a foursome or pairing in the golf outing.

Recruiting Rivals Five-Star clips: Notre Dame DE commit Christopher Burgess Jr.

Notre Dame defensive end commit Christopher Burgess Jr., a four-star recruit in the 2025 class, competed in the Rivals Five-Star event at Miller Electric Center, practice facility of the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars. Watch Burgess take on cover some of the best offensive line prospects in the country.
