Basketball MBB: Offense falls short again for Notre Dame in ACC loss at Miami

Notre Dame made No. 8 Miami work for a home victory, but the Irish didn't have nearly enough offense to pick up an ACC win.

“Any time we had a chance to make any kind of noise, we turned it over (13 for the game), or we let them get in transition,” said ND head coach Micah Shrewsberry.

2024 schedule - 12th game?

I know the rumors are that the open slot on the schedule created by Miami pushing their game at ND back a year are that ND is going to play Army in Yankee Stadium, but I have a better idea.

There are already 2 MAC teams, Navy, Purdue, Stanford and Virginia already on the schedule. Adding Army would be just be increasing the pile of weak opponents.

Why not play Oregon State November 24 in Las Vegas? ND could just go to LA from there, and Oregon State definitely needs opponents for next year.

HKY: Michigan fights back with 2-1 victory for split at Notre Dame

Notre Dame hockey couldn't generate the same kind of offense that carried it to a victory over No. 13 Michigan on Friday night.

The Wolverines fought back Saturday for a 2-1 conference win at Notre Dame.

Michigan (8-7-3, 3-5-2 Big Ten) scored first with a lunging one-timer by Frank Nazar III a little more than six minutes into the game.

The Irish (8-6-2, 4-2-2) responded with a Hunter Strand goal on a pass from Justin Janicke to tie the game with 1:20 remaining in the first period.

The Wolverines took the lead for good with a Dylan Duke goal with 3:50 left in the second period. Michigan used some nifty passing with assists for Gavin Brindley and T.J. Hughes following a bad Notre Dame turnover in its own end.

Notre Dame goalie Ryan Bischel saved 33 shots. Michigan's Jake Barczewski stopped 28 of them.

The Irish will be back on the ice next Friday and Saturday at No. 8 Michigan State (10-4-2, 5-1-2) for a two-game series.

BOX SCORE: Michigan 2, Notre Dame 1

Football Arizona State nickelback Jordan Clark visiting Notre Dame

Anthony Totri of PHNX is among those reporting that Arizona State nickelback Jordan Clark is visiting Notre Dame this weekend.

I've been working on this, but I haven't been able to confirm that he made it to campus. I was aware of interest on both sides, so I believe this is accurate.

UPDATE: I just heard back from a source. He is indeed visiting ND now.

Clark, a graduate who entered the transfer portal Thursday, led Arizona State in pass breakups with nine during the regular season. He started 10 games at nickelback and played in 11 with 50 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Clark is the son of former NFL player Ryan Clark. He went to high school in Baton Rouge, La.

Washington Husky Offense

That game last night was a joy to watch. Both teams looked great doing what they do. However, I love the Husky offense. ND could do that. It's a nice mix of running the ball and then passing downfield. Lots of play action and RPO. Just well done by their coach. Other than some "iffy" tackling, it was a well-played game by two excellent teams and two excellent coaching staffs. This is the first time I've seen Washington play. I'm glad I got the opportunity. That's the kind of offensive philosophy the Irish need to run. And then at the end of the game, they didn't play "not to lose." They actually threw the ball on third down and got the first down. It was a smart, low risk route to their best receiver against a guy with a club on his hand. Very smart. ND probably would have just run it three times and punted hoping the defense could stop them. That mentality has to stop.

Freeman Wake Up

Coach Freeman needs 2 step up, wake up and realize he has to hire the best at what they do, not those that are friends. This kind of thinking will get you fired , especially if you don’t make the 12 team field next year in your third year. I always thought he was a great recruiter and D coach, but should get more experience as a HC before coming to ND. Again NOTRE DAME is not where an inexperienced coach comes to learn on the job, especially one that has never been a HC. Go Irish

Basketball MBB: Game Thread | No. 8 Miami 62, Notre Dame 49 (Final)

Notre Dame men's basketball (3-3) will open ACC play Saturday with a road trip to No. 8 Miami (5-1). The Irish and Hurricanes will tip off at 12 p.m. EST on The CW. (Get used to that with the ACC TV rights deal)

Both teams lost Tuesday in the ACC/SEC Challenge matchups. Notre Dame lost 65-53 at South Carolina. Miami lost 95-73 at No. 12 Kentucky.

Miami is led by a starting five all averaging at least 10 points per game: guard Wooga Poplar (18.2), forward Norchad Omier (16.5), guard Matthew Cleveland (14.8), guard Nijel Pack (13.7) and guard Bensley Joseph (10.3). No one else averages more than four points and 13 minutes per game.

The 6-foot-7 Omier leads the Hurricanes in rebounding with 8.7 per game. The 6-0 Pack leads them in assists with 3.8 per game.

Notre Dame will use a starting five of guards Markus Burton, Julian Roper II and J.R. Konieczny and forwards Tae Davis and Kebba Njie.

Staff: Portal recruiting?

Does ND have anyone specifically charged with portal recruiting or is that just an additional responsibility for Bowman and his staff? With the importance of the portal these days and the number of players involved, I would think you would need a separate individual or set of individuals to be primarily responsible to manage this part of recruiting? Thanks.

End of Redshirting?

Makes me wonder, is there a point to red-shirting certain positions like QB, RB, WR, CB, S?

I think teams are just gonna have to play Freshmen, have them be specialized players that can contribute in a very specific way even though he may not have a complete grasp of the system.

The transfer portal/Free Agency makes it very easy to ditch their current teams if they’re not getting playing time. What’s the point of red shirting certain positions?
