Recruiting The Heat Index: Notre Dame has deep, talented pool of linebacker targets in 2025 class

Next up in the first edition of The Heat Index for Notre Dame’s 2025 class is the linebacker position.

Notre Dame landed its first true linebacker in the class in January from three-star Ko’o Kia, though four-star commit Dominik Hulak could also end up playing linebacker if his vyper end projection doesn’t pan out. Kia got the ball rolling at the position, and now promoted linebackers coach Max Bullough can put his touch on the class.

Notre Dame has a long list of linebacker targets that will get whittled down in the coming months, but the Irish have a handful of intriguing options. Bullough will likely get the freedom to add at least two more linebackers to the class.

I’ve assigned the following heat ratings for Notre Dame’s nine top remaining linebacker targets:

Hot for Anthony Sacca and Madden Faraimo

Medium for Antoine Deslauriers, Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, Noah Mikhail, Marco Jones and Christian Jones

Recruiting Rivals Rankings Week: Breaking down the 2025 RBs

After the new 2025 Rivals250 released on Tuesday, the Rivals team is now giving overviews of the position rankings, starting on Wednesday with the offensive side of the ball

Rivals national recruiting analyst Adam Friedman wrote about the running back position rankings and highlighted Notre Dame in his story:

"The Fighting Irish are the only program in the 2025 recruiting cycle with two four-star running back commitments," Friedman said. "Justin Thurman, an all-purpose running back out of Florida, chose Notre Dame in August of last year and has remained steadfast in his commitment. Just a month and a half after Thurman announced his commitment to Notre Dame, Daniel Anderson made the decision to commit to the Fighting Irish while in South Bend for the Ohio State game."

Per Friedman, Notre Dame's running back group comes in at No. 5 in the 2025 recruiting class currently.

The Irish (10-17, 5-11 ACC) are stuck with a late tip (9 p.m. EST) with Wake Forest (18-9, 10-6) visiting town.

The Demon Deacons are coming off a 83-79 court-storming against then-No. 8 Duke on Saturday. The Irish have returned home from Saturday's failed comeback attempt at Syracuse.

Wake Forest's top four scorers have played and started in all 27 games this season. They're led by 6-foot-5 guard Hunter Sallis, a Gonzaga transfer. He's scoring 18.7 points per game and is shooting 43.5% from 3 (64-of-147).

Central Michigan transfer Kevin Miller, a 6-foot guard, is averaging 15.5 points and 3.8 assists per game.

Recruiting Notre Dame a dream school for new 2026 QB target Troy Huhn

Inside ND Sports connected with Notre Dame 2026 quarterback target Troy Huhn on Saturday. The San Marcos (Calif.) Mission Hills recruit landed an offer from quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli on Wednesday and has already set a visit for March 27-28.

Huhn, who is currently unrated and unranked by Rivals, holds 16 offers including LSU, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Texas, Texas A&M and UCLA.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Huhn measured in with 9.4-inch hands and a 79-inch wingspan last spring at the Rivals Camp Series in Los Angeles.

While he's never stepped foot on Notre Dame's campus, Huhn said the Irish were an integral part of his love for college football while watching the sport in fourth and fifth grade.

"Notre Dame is a historical school," Huhn said. "I mean, even besides football, there is the campus which is amazing. I've heard great things from all my friends [and] all my coaches that have been there. I know they develop the quarterback position very well. They're gonna have a great season this year. But that Notre Dame offer felt special to me. I grew up with Notre Dame being one of my dream schools and it's it's coming to reality now."

Huhn, who reported his offer from LSU after Mike Denbrock departed for ND, said he's familiar with Denrbock's ability from watching the Tigers closely last season. Huhn also camped at LSU last June when Denbrock was still on staff.

"Jayden [Daniels] is about to get drafted, in my opinion, first or second overall, so it's gonna be exciting. If I do commit there, they're gonna develop me and I know it's gonna be special. I can't wait to get on campus to see what practices are like and their coaching style."

Huhn also said he's heard good things about head coach Marcus Freman and is excited to meet him next month on his visit.

Michigan, Texas and Penn State are other programs expected to receive visits from Huhn this spring. Huhn said said relationships with coaches, scheme fit, early playing opportunities and NFL development are some of his top priorities.

"[I'm] just very proud, very grateful and blessed to have this opportunity to be looked at by all these coaches for the next level," Huhn said. "I'm very grateful for that and I'm just trying to take it one step at a time because I know I'm not there yet."

Notre Dame currently has seven offers out in the 2026 class at quarterback: Huhn, Jared Curtis, Will Griffin, Noah Grubbs, Brady Hart, Ryder Lyons and Brady Smigiel.

Recruiting Jerome Bettis Jr. talks Notre Dame, others in pursuit ahead of decision

Rivals national recruiting analyst @John Garcia Jr. caught up with Notre Dame legacy recruit and 2025 WR target Jerome Bettis Jr. earlier this month at the Under Armour Next Camp in Atlanta.

"I'm looking to narrow down my commitment decision pretty soon," Bettis said. "I'm looking to announce it sometime before the summer. It could be March or April.

"I understand with the transfer portal, the class of 25 is starting to shut down so there are less spots. So it means I've got to speed it up."

Duke, Cal and Texas A&M are shaping up as final contenders along with ND. @Tyler James placed a FutureCast for Bettis last September.

Recruiting 2025 DL target sets visit for March

Just in time for The Heat Index update on defensive tackle targets in the morning: Darren Ikinnagbon confirms he's scheduled an unofficial visit to Notre Dame for March 19. He's a three-star DE prospect on Rivals, but the Irish have him projected first as a defensive tackle. Though I could definitely see him being a defensive end at the next level depending on the scheme and his growth.

Recruiting 2025 CB target Devin Williams commits to Auburn

Notre Dame 2025 cornerback target Devin Williams committed to Auburn on Monday.

Per Rivals, Williams is a four-star recruit and the No. 11 cornerback in the 2025 recruiting class. The Buford (Ga.) High recruit ranked No. 109 overall in the Rivals250 update last December.

After extending an offer last March during Pot of Gold Day, the Irish hosted Williams twice in his recruitment, including last September for the Ohio State game. He also camped at ND last summer. Williams planned on attending junior day in South Bend last month but plans fell through due to weather concerns.

Cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens was Williams' primary recruiter. Notre Dame has expanded its cornerback board in recent months with new offers to four-star Trystan Haynes out of Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert and athlete Dalen Penson out of Sandy Creek (Ga.) High.

In addition to Haynes and Penson, the Irish hosted four-star cornerback targets Mark Zackery and Dallas Golden for separate games last season and again for junior day. Notre Dame's only cornerback commit at the moment is four-star Cree Thomas.

Recruiting 2025 LB target Antoine Deslauriers sets OV for June, working on spring visit

Notre Dame 2025 linebacker target Antoine Deslauriers informed @Tyler James on Monday that he has set an official visit for June 7-9. He has been added to our running visitors list thread.

Deslauriers said he is also working to schedule an unofficial visit to campus sometime in April.

Linebackers coach Max Bullough stopped by Rabun Gap (Ga.) Nacoochee School and offered the 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker in January.

Deslauriers, who is originally from Canada, reports 20 total offers including Auburn, Duke, Florida State, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Michigan State, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas A&M. He is not currently rated or ranked by Rivals.

"I was thrilled about it. I think it comes from the fact not only that this is a big-time program, not only for football, but also for academics," Deslauriers told Inside ND Sports after his offer. "Being a Canadian football player and having the chance to be recognized by such [a] prestigious program is absolutely phenomenal. I'm honored by it."

As a junior, Deslauriers totaled 72 tackles including 18 for loss, four quarterback hurries, two sacks, three interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Basketball WBB: ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament Tiebreaker and Seedings Procedure

ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament Tiebreaker and Seedings Procedure

Seeding for the Basketball Championship will be determined by the regular season Conference standings. In case of a tie, the following formula will be used:

1. When two teams are tied in the standings, regular season head-to-head results are used as the tiebreaker.

2. If the tied teams played each other twice in the regular season and split their games, then each team’s record vs. the team occupying the highest position in the final regular season standings (or in case of a tie for first place, the next highest position in the regular season standings) and then continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.

(a) When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing records, use each team’s record against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to their own tie-breaking procedures), rather than the performance against the individual tied teams.

(b) When comparing records against a single team or a group of teams, the higher winning percentage shall prevail, even if the number of games played against a team or group is unequal (e.g., 2-0 is better than 3-1; 1-0 is the same as 2-0; 2-1 is the same as 4-2; 1-0 is better than 1-1; 0-1 is the same as 0-3). If the winning percentage of the tied teams is equal against a team, or a group of tied teams, continue down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.

3. If three or more teams are tied in the standings, the following procedures will be used:

(a) The combined record of conference games between the tied teams involved will be compiled. Ties will be broken and seeds assigned based on the winning percentage of the combined conference records. The higher winning percentage shall prevail, even if the number of games played against the team or group is unequal (i.e., 2-0 is better than 3-1; 1-0 is the same as 2-0; 2-0 is the same as 4-0; 2-1 is the same as 4-2; 1-0 is better than 1-1; 0-1 is the same as 0-2; 0-2 is the same as 0-4).

(b) If procedure (a) fails to break the tie, then each tied team’s record shall be compared to the team occupying the highest position in the final regular-season standings continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage by a higher winning percentage.

(c) If the tie is broken by (a) or (b) regarding one or more teams, but three or more teams remain tied, then procedures (a) and (b) will be re-applied among those tied teams only.

(d) If two teams remain tied, procedures (1) and (2) will be followed.

4. If there is more than one tie in the standings, and when utilizing the tie-breaking procedures there are a pair of teams tied, a team’s record against the combined tied teams (prior to their own tie-breaking procedures) is used, rather than performance against the individual tied teams.

5. If procedures (2) and/or (3) fail to establish an advantage, a coin flip to break the tie will be conducted by the Commissioner after the final regular season game before the Conference Championship.

6. If a coin flip or draw (for a three or more team tie) is required, the procedure takes place immediately following the conclusion of the last regular season game prior to the Conference Championship. The procedure is administered by the Commissioner or a designated assistant. This session is open to the media and to athletics department representatives from the tied teams.acc02252024.png

Recruiting Four-star safety target schedules Notre Dame official visit

Notre Dame safety target JaDon Blair, a four-star recruit in the 2025 class, has already scheduled four official visits for May/June. One of those is set for Notre Dame.

Here's the schedule:

May 31-June 2: South Carolina
June 7-9: Notre Dame
June 14-16: Michigan
June 21-23: Penn State

I'm told he's also considering three other schools for official visits: Florida State, LSU and Miami.

Blair is high on Notre Dame's safety wish list and probably the most likely of the safety targets to end up in Notre Dame's class. But there's some stiff competition heading into official visit season.

The No. 24 safety in the 2025 class most recently visited South Carolina and Penn State in January. He visited the Irish twice last year.

Recruiting Notre Dame misses top eight cut for 2025 WR target Daylan McCutcheon

On X/Twitter Saturday evening, Notre Dame 2025 wide receiver target Daylan McCutcheon released his top eight schools.

McCutcheon, a four-star per Rivals, collected 36 total offers in the process, including Notre Dame, but has trimmed his list to Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas, SMU, Stanford and USC.

The Lucas (Tex.) Lovejoy recruit was primarily recruited by former wide receivers coach Chansi Stuckey and is also friends with 2025 quarterback commit Deuce Knight. McCutcheon visited the Irish twice in his recruitment, including last October for the USC game.

McCutcheon was expected to attend ND's junior day last month and spend time around new wide receivers coach Mike Brown, but he and his father caught the flu.

The 6-foot, 175-pound McCutcheon is the No. 71 overall player and No. 12 wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting class.

Notre Dame has two WR commitments in the 2025 class (Elijah Burress and Shaun Terry). The Irish are also in play for Jerome Bettis Jr., Derek Meadows, Talyn Taylor and Raiden Vines-Bright.

BAS: Newcomers again prominent as Notre Dame caps FIU series with 3-1 win

Another storyline heavy in transfers and freshmen helped the Notre Dame baseball team earn a series split with a 3-1 victory against Florida International on Sunday in Miami.

Michigan transfer Tito Flores drove in a pair of runs with a single in the fourth, and St. John’s transfer David Glancy hit his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot, in the eighth as the Irish (5-2) took their second game of the four-game set.

Freshman Jack Radel pitched three innings of one-hit relief with two strikeouts to earn his first college victory. Davidson transfer Bennett Flynn gave up the lone FIU run, on a solo home run to Kishon Frett in the ninth, but earned his first save in a Notre Dame uniform.

Junior right-hander Ricky Reeth struck out six in 2 ⅔ shutout innings for the Irish. Brown transfer Tobey McDonough got the start for Notre Dame and pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

Notre Dame is back on the road next weekend for a three game series in Cookeville, Tenn., against Tennessee Tech (6-1). The series opener is set for Friday at 4 p.m. EDT.
