All-American Bowl will now include some high school juniors

From the announcement released by the All-American Bowl:

As the nation’s premier high school sporting event for 25 years, the All-American Bowl has historically featured 100 of the top senior high school football players from across the country. The All-American Bowl is played in the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX and is broadcast annually on NBC and Peacock. The All-American Bowl is the most-watched and highest-attended high school sporting event in the country.

Since its inception in December of 2000, the All-American Bowl has featured high school senior football players. Moving forward, the game will start to include the top high school juniors who will suit up to play alongside top senior upperclassmen from across the country.

“Given the changing landscape at the collegiate level, our senior participants are graduating high school earlier and enrolling in and attending college as early as December. As a result, the All-American Bowl is pivoting to now include top juniors for the upcoming 2025 All-American Bowl,” said Jon Miller, President, Acquisitions and Partnerships of NBC Sports, owner-operator of the event. “This change will allow more top juniors to make their college declarations on network television.” The 2025 All-American Bowl will be played Saturday, January 11th, 2025, which marks the 25th anniversary of the game.

Football Speedy WR Kris Mitchell can be offensive accelerant for Notre Dame

New Notre Dame WR Kris Mitchell: “I want to show them I can take the top off of any defense. I can stretch the field. I can catch a slant. I can take it for 70. Whatever they need me to do, I can make the big plays when it’s there."

With claims of a 4.3 40 and a 22-mph practice speed, the FIU transfer has big numbers to back up in an offense that should give him that opportunity.

HKY: No. 8 Michigan State ends Notre Dame's four-game winning streak

Michigan State ended Notre Dame's four-game winning streak with a 4-0 win Saturday to draw a series split in South Bend.

A night after the Irish won 4-1 in Compton Family Ice Arena, Notre Dame (14-12-2, 8-8-2 Big Ten) couldn't find the back of the net.

No. 8 Michigan State (18-7-3, 12-4-2) scored its first goal when Karsen Dorwart weaved through traffic and beat Notre Dame goaltender Ryan Bischel above his glove with 2:27 remaining in the first period.

The Spartans took a commanding 3-0 lead in the second period. Michigan State outshot Notre Dame 19-8 in the period and made a pair of them count. Jeremy Davidson scored a wraparound goal at the 13:06 mark. Artyom Levshunov ripped one through traffic on a power play with less than five seconds remaining.

Red Savage put home Michigan State's final goal when he deflected a shot attempt by Gavin O'Connell.

Bischel made 38 saves in a losing effort. Michigan State's Trey Augustin totaled 30 saves. The Irish failed to capitalize on six power play opportunities.

Notre Dame will head to No. 4 Wisconsin (20-6-2, 11-4-1) for a Friday-Saturday series. The Badgers are second in the conference behind Michigan State after the weekend. The Irish sit in fifth.

Football The journey that brought Army vet Eric Goins to Notre Dame's 2024 roster

Three days before his 30th birthday, Eric Goins learned his NCAA eligibility for the 2024 season was approved.

Here's how an Army veteran landed on Notre Dame's roster.

Football Riley Leonard's surgery details

Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard spoke to local reporters for the first time today. I'll have a story on him this evening covering a number of topics, but I wanted to first share with you all the details he shared about his ankle surgery.

First, I should note that he bounced up the stairs before speaking to reporters. It was almost as if he was proving to anyone paying attention that he was fine.

He said had high ankle tightrope surgery two weeks ago and expects to be back in a couple weeks. As @Eric Hansen previously reported, he expects to be 100% by the start of spring practice.

The reason he only recently had surgery was because the plan was to see how the injury healed. When he arrived at Notre Dame, it was explained to him that, based on how it had healed, there was a higher risk of reinjuring the ankle without the surgery. So he went ahead and had it done in January.

Leonard on how he feels:

"I feel great. I'm bouncing around. Obviously, no boot, nothing. You probably wouldn't even realized I got surgery. That story broke a couple days ago. It wasn't really a secret. I tell people all the time, I was riding around campus in my electric wheelchair thing just scooting around. I was embracing it."

He hopes to be back in a couple weeks. In workouts, he's doing mostly everything except for sprinting.

Basketball MBB: Game Thread | Pittsburgh 70, Notre Dame 60 (Final)

Notre Dame men's basketball (7-14, 2-8 ACC) looks to snap its five-game losing streak — the longest of Micah Shrewsberry's first season — on Saturday at Pittsburgh (13-8, 4-6 ACC). It is the first and only meeting between these two programs this season.

Freshman point guard Markus Burton, who averages a team-high 16 points per game, is one of five Irish along with J.R. Konieczny, Braeden Shrewsberry, Carey Booth and Matt Zona to appear in all 21 games thus far. Burton, who has been joined in the normal starting lineup by Konieczny, Booth, forwards Tae Davis and Kebba Njie, is the only player to start every game this season.

ND is holding its opponents to 65.3 points per game, which is nearly 11 points less than Pitt's team average of 75.9 points per contest. However, the Irish only average 62 points per game and have only scored above 60 points in four of their last five games (75-61 loss vs. Miami). Notre Dame's scoring offense ranks No. 345 (out of 351) in Division I men's basketball.

The Panthers have three players averaging double-figures in scoring, including forward Blake Hinson at 18 points per contest. Head coach Jeff Capel's squad forces 11.9 turnovers per game, which plays right into the hands of Notre Dame which averages 13.9 turnovers per contest and lacks a steady second ball-handler outside of Burton.

Pitt has won three of its last four games, including two wins over common opponents Duke and Georgia Tech, the latter of whom the Irish beat in overtime.

Football Why coming to Notre Dame was 'really easy decision' for QB Riley Leonard

“The portal was never really anything I really thought of until I got hurt,” Riley Leonard said. “I was just like, ‘Dude, I got one year left of this.’ I'm a risk-taker. My whole life, I've just been a risk-taker. So, I was like, ‘I got one shot.’

Recruiting 2026 two-sport recruit Stephen Brown on early radar for Notre Dame football

Notre Dame's coaching staff is hitting the road this week to visit commits and targets. In their 2024 recruiting class, the Irish have two commits that were once regarded as potential Division I basketball recruits: four-star wide receiver Micah Gilbert and four-star safety Brauntae Johnson.

The 2026 class is in its early stages but one prospect already on Notre Dame's radar is wide receiver Stephen Brown. Similar to Gilbert and Johnson, Brown is also a basketball recruit with an offer from Western Illinois and interest from Marquette.

The 6-foot-7, 175-pound wide receiver has made waves this fall as the No. 1 target for Chicago (Ill.) Marist with 17 receptions, 308 yards and one touchdown. He visited Notre Dame in September and is a candidate to pick up interest from the Irish or even an offer next year. He is connected with recruiting associate Carter Auman and quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli on X/Twitter.

Inside ND Sports spoke with Brown early this week to get a gauge of his interest in the Irish for football, how his visit went and more.

On his September visit (his only football visit he took this season):

"The visit went amazing," Brown said. "I loved the environment. The best parts to me was meeting the staff and coaches and also being close to the players and seeing the college atmosphere. I met [wide receivers] coach [Chansi] Stuckey and [head] coach [Marcus] Freeman. It was great meeting them they made me feel very welcomed."

On how he plays the position:

"I’m a fast receiver who can beat my defender off the line with pure speed. My play style, I would say, is jumps balls because I’m taller than everyone and I can get to the ball before anyone else."

On what an offer from Notre Dame would mean:

"It would mean a lot to me to get an offer here. It would let me know that the work has been paying off."

Rivals has not currently assigned a rating or ranking to Brown in either sport. He has not yet received interest from Notre Dame men's basketball.
