was anyone else a little disturbed by howard cross's remarks in the post game presser?

he seemed surprisingly accepting of what might be the most unlikely home loss in my lifetime....after our D line got pushed around all day and rarely got NIU offense off of the field, particularly in the last 5 minutes of the game....
And gave up a grand total of 16 points, three of which were set up by an interception and runback to the 50 with 6:00 to go.

He's injured, despite the coaches playing it coy. He couldn't impact the game, so you don't get as pissed off as someone out there giving it all you have playing a ton of snaps.

It's why i've been saying, HUGE drop off next year at interior. We're seeing the drop off without having cross. They're doubling Mills a lot and Hinish is getting pushed around like an undersized MAC interior dlinemen that he is.

Riley Leonard before Notre Dame...

WTH are you talking about?
In 2022 Riley had 2967 yards
In 2023 Williams had 3633

You obviously love Riley and that's ok but certainly says something about what you're seeing versus reality.

Their total yards are basically the same. That should be obvious to a know it all like yourself, especially since I quoted you with a similar stat yesterday. Seriously, you couldn’t figure that out on your own? I didn’t say anything about passing yards.

My reality is fine. You’re just a blowhard who can’t even parse basic statistics…that’s probably not someone whose football acumen should be trusted.

I wonder if a #5 ranked OSU, Bama, UGA,

I think the point I'm making is still valid though regardless of the particulars of how an institution facilitates/entices with NIL

If a prospect has a lot of suitors and a lot of demand for his services ND will just go with another option that's cheaper/lower effort/lower on their board/etc. in recruiting, in transfer portal, in their coaching hires, etc. and it ultimately reflects in the subpar product on Saturdays
None of that is true. You don't have the first clue of what you're posting.

Leonard’s Shoulder Injury

TelX
We are in a bad way. Freeman was in an enviable position -
Despite losing 3-4 games to inferior opponents and prior to the latest loss to NIU, everyone was behind Freeman and wanted him to succeed
This was going to be the year

Now, That’s gone. The goodwill. The promise of a great year

And the same applies to Leonard. I don’t have any confidence in him. Teams will make him throw and he won’t be able to

We will win this week but imo lose 2 more games this year. This coach bet on another portal qb and it’s not going to work out

Angeli or Carr should get in after Leonard struggles
Hi Ski…lots of cliches come to mind in response, but winning cures everything will suffice. I hated this game on too many levels to count. I don’t think many question whether Freeman was given the reins of a major program like ND prematurely. He wasn’t ready, pure and simple. But, I stated at his hire that he should be judged in year three, and here we are. 1-1 with an excellent road win and a putrid loss where we were physically dominated and outschemed by a very good MAC team.
We have no margin for error now the rest of this season if we hope to make the playoffs. Win out and go 11-1, and last Saturday’s game will still gnaw at us, but it won’t consume us. I seriously doubt this is likely unless we see a rebirth of Sophomore Leonard, or Denbrock and Freeman earn their money and make a change at qb. Frankly, I think the same of Golden, and think Oben needs to come off the bench, at a minimum.
I don’t expect either, and absent a huge offensive explosion and dominating win, you can add my name to yours in lacking confidence. I hope this is a weekly refrain and we find ourselves back in Freeman’s camp as we enter the playoffs, but that looks more and more like fools gold.

Riley Leonard before Notre Dame...

Are his numbers bad? He had basically the same yards in 2022 as Caleb Williams did in 2023. Is he as good as Williams because his yards are the same? Obviously not.

Statistics are nice but don’t tell the whole story. Just looking at his completion percentage: He’s ranked 44 in 2022. Out of how many QB’s? There are 134 teams so he’s at least 44/134 which is good for top 33%. Without any context, I’d probably take that. More than 134 QB’s obviously played so does that stat include all QB’s or just starters or just guys with 100 passes? What if he’s 44 out of 188? Now that’s top 24%. With no context I’d take that.

I could use Denbrock’s #1 offense in 2023 to argue that he’s overrated (and I do think he’s overrated but I’m still happy he’s here.)

Stats are overrated. He was definitely the MVP of that Duke team. Maybe ND goes 12-0 if he comes to ND in 2023? That’s very realistic.
His stats show his inaccuracy, his TD to INT ratio was 2 to 1 which is horrible, and most of his passes were short to intermediate.

It's been said and I'll say it again the 2nd and 1 play call was absolutely HORRIBLE

I know this thread is about the play call........ I haven't read through all the posts but I didn't see anything on the fact with this play it didn't involve play action. Second and one, and you don't use PA. It would have sucked the lbs more making greathouse even easier to see, and possibly the safety more probably making riley feel like he had more room to launch it. I still put 95% of the fault on riley for this play, but to not use PA in this instance was stupid. If you didn't trust the line to block a PA pass, then don't throw a pass at all on 2nd and 1.

I can not believe we lost this game with 2nd and one at midfield with 5 minutes to go and leading. 2-3 first downs rushing wins it without scoring.
