Develop a QB

He's better than Brian Kelly but remember...
The same Brian Kelly who got exactly one win against a top 5 team...
At home...with their backup QB...in a weird covid year.
In 12 years.

MF is doing better than Brian Kelly. Pretty much even messing up the QB position.

That doesn't say much.
It's clear to everyone on the planet including the staff, except a few of the mentally challenged that Angeli is the guy.

That said, Angeli is the lone holdover from the Kelly era in that QB room. the last QB, Kelly/Rees recruited, and it almost feels as though MF wants nothing to do with that at the most important position on the offense for whatever reason. They have brought in 2 average to below average QB's the last 2 seasons in an attempt to upgrade the QB position instead of going with and developing what they have, and it's backfired. It's backfired because we've heard nothing but how talented this team is and they are a playoff team.

It's just strange to me that you stick with a QB that can't make throws and is struggling when you have someone sitting on the bench that can, and has proven it time and time again. It's bizarre.

Develop a QB

"If he is such a good hitter, why doen't he hit good?" If Leonard is such a good passer, why doesn't he pass good?? Tired of the portal. If the coach can't take a Fr. or Soph. and develop him into a good QB then he isn't a very good coach. If Freemen is such a good coach, why doesn't he coach good??

Notre Dame is ALL of their 2024 performance so far

I feel like most sports writers -- and thus fans -- get too caught up in the narrative from game to game, and will evaluate the team based on their game to game or week to week performance (evaluating the team in silos and drastically changing their opinion of a team based on the outcome of a single game, or even based on the outcome of a single play, etc.)

Despite NDs loss to NIU (which of course is a shame because Wins and Losses matter more than they should in the playoff seeding) ND is producing to about where the projection systems had them coming into the season (~10th or so ranked team) and there's still a good chance ND ends up making the playoff with a similar seeding.

RL on a short leash?

Let’s face it, Purdue is back to being Purdont, they stink.

I know he (Leonard) had a nice game this weekend, but his throwing still looked questionable. He just can’t spin it over 10 yards with any accuracy, or seemingly any confidence.

Yeah, the game was out of hand when Angelli entered but it’s clear he spins the ball far better than Leonard does. SA scrambles and runs well enough to compliment his passing. The one thing I see is that he takes some sacks he shouldn’t though. I wonder if that was a product of wanting to display his talents, impress the coaches today. I thought he played great against OSU in the bowl game and I don’t recall him holding the ball so long and taking a bad sack then.

I just don’t think ND can beat UL, GTech, and definitely not USC being so one dimensional at the QB position.

Personally, I think Angelli would compliment these RB’s well. ND has excellent RBs, and I might be the only one but I think our WRs and TEs are better than people think. I think it has more to do with Leonard than the WR/TE groups. I believe SA would consistently throw for 250 plus yards in most games as the starter.

If RL doesn’t look much better throwing against Miami OH, I don’t know if he’ll start the following week against UL. Or he’ll have a “short leash” against UL in the very least.

Confused

Both are true.

ND is definitely better than they showed last week, and Purdue is a terrible team.

I have complete confidence that NIU would beat their behinds badly as well.

Freeman has now lost to NIU, Marshall, and a 3 win Stanford team who’s only other wins that year were against Colgate and 2 win ASU. I’m rooting for the guy but I just don’t have confidence in him right now.

If ND couldn’t beat NIU, what is the

I’ll bet the playoff teams won’t have suffered as bad a loss as ND did to NI. Which of course will mean a comparably better resume…as ND will probably not have SOS in its favor.

I guess there is some chance ND the table while others have 2 losses. Then it can get interesting.
ND’s only hope is to win out and hope NIU wins or is runner up in the MAC. I live in Ohio and most have thought since early summer the MAC would be decided by Toledo, NIU, BGSU, and Miami. Miami of OH has disappointed thus far but they could still get on track in the MAC, Chuck Martin has led them pretty well. As of now I’d put my money on Toledo or NIU.

Today’s performance just proves my point about Freeman

When was the last time we scored 66 against a p4 team. Doing it against new Mexico doesn't mean much
I don’t want to be a downer but this Purdue team will finish somewhere between 14th-18th in the B1G with Northwestern, Indiana, UCLA, Minnesota, etc.

They are bad, really bad.

Angelli Should be the starter.

I called this since last year. I've seen the kid play in HS, against the best competition in the state. He has the tools.
I did and I know others did as well and some on the board called us names over it when we said we didn’t want Leonard. He (Angelli) played terrific in the bowl game. He has decent athleticism, throws a nice ball, seems to make good decisions throwing the ball. If he had one thing to improve, it’d be some of the sacks he’s taken. I think he waits to long, sometimes it’s just not there, throw it away.

Ga barely escapes

13-12 over Kentucky. Makes me feel just a tiny bit better about last week.
UGA the last four-five seasons has had one very close game with a non top 25 SEC team USC, Auburn, UK, Mizzou, then they get back on track and blow teams doors off.

UGA has won 41 straight regular season games!! That’s insane, and I believe they’ll lose one maybe two this season, as all streaks are broken.

They are @ Bama @ Texas, @ Ole Miss and home to Tennessee that’s pretty difficult.

I wonder if a #5 ranked OSU, Bama, UGA,

Let’s see, App State beat top 5 Mich at home like 15 years ago. I also recall JMU beating Va Tech when they were top 10. Many moons ago, like the 80’s, Cincy beat PSU …

Sure you can find more, Google is your friend
I said I wonder if a top 5 Bama, UGA, Clemson, OSU, had ever lost to a MAC/WAC school at home.

You searched and found VaTech and 1980 PSU…😂

The UM loss is still talked about to this day because it still blows minds, they lost to an FCS team. That’s really the only proper comparison.

Confused

Leonard must have been hurt during last weeks game. This was the strong speculation/excuse given for his lack of performance.
Then, today he is out there running wild. Still not passing very well but moving and running just fine. So, if not hurt last week then what
explains the change in ND play calling after the first Quarter?? is Purdue that bad, or ND really that much better than they showed last week?

Football Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard leads with legs as passing game remains project

Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard still wasn't the passer many want him to be against Purdue, but he was much better than what was needed to beat the Boilermakers on Saturday.

"My job’s to get four yards a play," Leonard said. "It doesn’t matter how I do it. I got away from that for a second, but I’m back on track and kind of understand my role. My job’s to win football games, so however I need to do it, I’ll do it.”
