Offense Needs to Step Up

People don’t realize how big of an impact Mills had. It’s not just him clogging up the middle and blowing up runs. He is a lethal pass rusher and even when he doesn’t get there, he destroys any semblance of a pocket. How many interceptions or incompletions do you think were because Mills blew up a clean pocket and the QB either panicked or could not see the field, forcing a ball that wasn’t there.

Getting pressure from the inside just can’t be replicated from anyone else on the roster. Young may help on the edge, but we won’t be collapsing the pocket and disrupting passing lanes like we did with Mills.
It’s a huge loss, no question. That said, there are key losses on both sides.

Battle of attrition.

The state of the ND defensive line

We haven’t… ND has done a solid job but has lacked getting elite talent. What they have done is develop talent. Cross, Traore and Hinish were three stars who have outperformed their recruiting ranking.

Mills, Rubio, Young and Botelho are four stars who have delivered as expected or exceeded expectations. Junior and Burnham weren’t even recruited as defensive linemen.

They have done a good, not great job. The only blue chips are Young, Rubio and Mills.
Well stated.

Why isn't MFs success netting more blue chip interest?

I noticed ND is now a 2 point underdog to UGA.

If ND had top 5 talent, instead of back end top 10 talent, they would probably be a 5 point favorite with a far higher likelihood to win this game.

I like how several of the posters in this thread understand how the talent rankings work and what they represent but are now disregarding the information/evidence and playing make believe in their heads that ND has 5 star talent on the field lol

ND has 3 & 4 star talent that has been maximized with great player development and great scheme but its the lack of high 4 & 5 star talent that is still capping this program's upside.

Imagine NDs coaching staff with OSUs roster/talent for example

OSUs roster has 14 five-stars and another 10+ top 100 prospects on it for example (that means 25 of their 80+ scholarship players are top 100 consensus talent with more than half of that being 5-star talent)

Imagine what Marcus Freeman/ this coaching staff could do with that much talent?
You're a dummo. Points spreads are for gamblers. Underdogs win all the time. A two point spread means that the game is perceived as being essentially even. Only you would make it out to be significant.

Agreed, it’s good but not at a championship/elite level, especially along the interior.

The bottom that we haven't recruited DL all that well is flawed and incorrect

If Tenn played in the SEC…

You seem very sure of the accusation about the the SEC, and I'm not doubting them, but to have Saban just flat out deny that was interesting.
So if it was that prevalent then he's a liar, and not sure why he hasn't been called out for it Unless he's untouchable.
Saban gained alot more credibility when he walked away from this train wreck you would think he would of called that out as well.

Now the head of the SEC flaunting those pictures of the Vol fans as if the SEC is the only fan base that travels when it's widely know bowls were always wanting ND because the fan base is two fold.....
1) Nationwide
2)They travel as well.

He looked ridiculous
Saban is a liar. Go back and google any number of bama kids getting in trouble back in the period since you joined and you will find a number of scandals buried. His payroll was the highest in SEC until lane and Jimbo brought their $$$ to the table …

Notre Dame Win versus Indiana (Top four pivotal plays) !!!!!

Notre Dame Nation:

I re-watched the Indiana vs. Notre Dame college football playoff game and was curious what you think was the top four pivotal plays of the game. Mine are as follows:

1. Xavier Watts - Interception
2. Jeremiyah Love - 98-yard touchdown run
3. The fake field goal attempt - Freeman punked Cignetti into calling a timeout (the smile that said - I got you) was priceless. "Cignetti eats crow for all of that smack talk!"
4. The recovery by Jordan Faison, when Mitchell Evans fumbled

Honorable Mention: Jordan Faison's 44-yard reception.

Go Irish!!!
Jeter actually kicking a field goal was important, too, even if one got blocked later.

Another key play — looking ahead, anyway — was the sack that Mills got injured on.

Faison

Not sure if its true, but saw Branch (USC) is in the portal.....also the #1 for NC State, KY and Texas....

Outside of Faison, we really dont have WR that will beat man....against a Championship team....OSU has those....

The UVA xfer is a good get, but seems like we would go grab two more from the blue chips
