Kelly getting taken to the woodshed

Take a breath and read my post. I post very infrequently and now I remember why. I started by saying I haven't thought of BK in weeks. You say I shit all over BK and and include me in a group that "hate all over him" when all I did was quote his own words. I don't hate anyone and if I did Brian Kelly wouldn't even come close to making my list. Franklin and Day would, but I digress. I liked Brian Kelly a lot. He helped revive the program. I didn't like how he left. That was the point of my post.
I don't come on this message board to fight with other posters, quite the opposite. I come on to get the pulse of the fan base, the guys who are dug in to ND football. They are obvious on this site and for the most part, very insightful. Just as obvious are the posters who seem to ferment hostility on this forum. I suspect from my recent browsing, you are one of them. We can have different opinions without hating on each other, right?
Go Irish!
Dude, don't worry about. I apologize, I was in a mood yesterday, shall we say. And I don't put up with any of this BK bashing, which is not normal, forgivable fan disgruntlement, and has become this effin' monster with ND fans, and now with CFB at large, and everyone takes their shots at BK, like he's a joke and a whipping boy. When the truth is, he's a 1st ballot CFB HOF coach. So it's just very effed up. Anyway, sorry to snap at you. That was poor form on my part to someone who isn't one of the familiar habitues of this little message board. Go Irish indeed!

So you want deep completions? That's what would make us a "full good team"?

We've had few "deep completions" all year.

Yet we're 13-1, and have beaten ranked teams in every month of the season.
That's what I'm hoping we do, at least a couple times, just as a surprise tactic, given how overtly PSU appears to want to take away a team's strength, as they did with Boise St. and AJ, and make you beat them with the pass. And we should totally go long. Like if we had an 80 yard TD pass they totally weren't expecting, and it was a brilliant play call, and we're immediately ahead and PSU's already demoralized. And we do it again in the 3rd quarter. Pull out all the stops....

Football Bengals fire defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, updated with Al Golden comments

The Cincinnati Bengals have fired defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, per Dianna Russini of The Athletic. I bring that news here, because Notre Dame defensive coordinator Al Golden spent two seasons (2020-21) as Anarumo's linebackers coach in Cincinnati before joining Notre Dame's staff.

I don't know how much interest the Bengals would have in bringing him back or how much he's ready to leave Notre Dame. He seems pretty comfortable with the Irish, but I've felt that Golden's next job would likely be in the NFL. That's just speculation on my part though.

UPDATE (1/7):

Al Golden was asked this evening if he was aware of Anarumo's firing and if he'd have any interested if contacted about the position.

"Look, it took us 30 years to get to this point right here. That's the only thing — I'm not worried about anything but how to stop Penn State. And I mean that. Like two really good backs, a tight end that is dominant. We just talked about the quarterback. And the scheme that is really, really challenging. That's really the only thing that we're focused on right now."

Can you answer if they have contacted you?

"No. I've talked to nobody. I can't even get out of the facility right now. We just had the shortest week of the year."

If no one cares....

You're correct. I pay for access to Driskell's site. I think it's just a few dollars each month. They've got some good stuff going over there.
Driskell's site offers some solid info. Unfortunately, the message board has gotten really bad imho. The dozen or so solid people posting there have been overwhelmed by low football IQ, effeminate posters'.
Throw in a few others that have a cult level worship towards BD, make it almost unreadable. It's too bad ad I used to really enjoy it IB

Well this is where I vent on ND related subjects. So I guess that makes it my valium. You get the metaphor. You do the same thing. Only you shit all over BK, which is almost like a rite of passage for ND fans at this point, and that's how you bond. And then try to justify yourself. I think that's way worse.

OSU-Texas

I would be surprised if this were not a good game. There is a lot of recency bias love for OSU but they have been a little inconsistent. Not just the Michigan loss but Oregon loss and Nebraska win (and even Penn State win) not juggernaut quality. Don't get me wrong, they are deservedly the favorites, but playing a very good Texas team, in the Cotton Bowl, that is being overlooked while a sporadically inconsistent OSU is collecting bouquets is a recipe for a good one.

This year's defense does not change the reality of the situation in 2021.

Yes this. We have one half of a good team. I did not see a single deep completion in the Sugar Bowl from us.

Does This Short Week Hurt the Irish?

This is the ULTIMATE TEST of a good team -- having to play TOUGHER COMPETITION EACH WEEK and having to get up for it.

Is ND the kind of playoff team that can SOLDIER ON or, at some point, does it SIMPLY REACH ITS LIMIT?

This is RAW COMPETITION at its best.
It would say that raw comp at its best if the conditions were the same for PSU. They played 2 shit teams and have had 2 easy unemotional games, and they've got 2 extra days rest . ND has been through a gauntlet, and they're playing on less than a weeks rest. And don't underestimate how the tragedy in New Orleans will affect the team either. Being there while terrible things happened, being locked down in hotel rooms, the schedule being turned upside down.....this all takes a physical and mental and emotional toll on the guys. It will take a heroic effort to beat PSU Thursday.

Folks correctly talk about how emotional the UGA game was. I'll add this- the IU game was emotional too. I was there, and I've never seen Notre Stadium like it was that night. It was absolutely electric on and off the field.

It is so incredibly difficult to have big energy and emotionally draining games back to back to back. It tests your limits. And it's absolutely contributed to the injury challenges that we're having. I'm certain that there is a connection. The boys are putting so much incredible effort into each play and each drive. It's amazing.

I'm concerned that this is all taking a major toll on the guys. I'm the biggest homer on the board, and I do think ND pulls it out Thursday. But we badly, badly need rest. I'm disappointed that the NCAA didn't give us Friday's game in the wake of what happened in NOLA last week. How could they not look at PSU having 2 extra days off, and not want to cut into that gap? An extra day would've done wonders (Cross and Love).

Freeman and the staff need to get 60 minutes out the boys Thursday. I think they can do it. But this ND team is being tested in ways that few college teams ever have before.

Some posters throw in the towel during games ND eventually wins!

:D

I'd be surprised if posters attack MF, even for a suboptimal next game during this remarkable playoff run. Mind you, I don't expect ND to lay an egg. If on the off chance they do, MF will adjust and continue to improve on a remarkable season...and I will continue to support him.

Minimally on a 5 year tenure. Minimally. Fingers crossed for continued success...that we can debate a repeat of a championship! Now that would be fun to argue about next season!

;)
Attack /=/ criticism.

Does This Short Week Hurt the Irish?

OK... aside from the bickering... there is some thoughtful posts here.

I just got finished watching Freemans presser and he was asked about the "short" week and his answer was, pretty much perfect. Its not much different than any other 7 day turn around during the season and its not like PSU was on a bye.

The other noteworthy comment was that we came out of the Georgia game pretty healthy. GOOD NEWS.
PSU got better than a bye. A game where they were running good reps with only a small chance of losing.
