Football ***GAME THREAD: Northern Illinois 16, No. 5 Notre Dame 14 (Final)***

I've made my way to the press box at Notre Dame Stadium for today's Notre Dame-Northern Illinois game.

We will use this game thread as the primary home for game commentary from now until after the game. We have some rules we'll ask you to follow, which will be included below.

If you're not following the rules and do not respond well to reminders, we'll remove you're posting privileges for the rest of the day. We have too much to do today to argue about it during the game. This doesn't happen often as we're pretty lenient in the game thread, but please keep that in mind.

@HotCarNut has disciplinary powers as a moderator. You can argue with him about the game, but do not argue with him about the rules.

Our game thread rules:

1. Use this thread until the end of the game for ongoing game commentary. We'd like to keep the conversation in one place. If something from the game merits a separate conversation of substance, go ahead and start another thread for that topic. When in doubt, post in the game thread.

2. Criticism of decision-making by coaches and players is allowed. But please avoid making it personal. Don't be malicious. Remember, that person's mother could be reading your post. If you cross the line, you'll lose posting privileges for the day.

3. Don't be a doofus. Have some respect for your fellow subscribers.

Thoughts on Northern Illinois line

Huskies bring back a lot off experience from a 7-6 team. Phil Steele says 21st most experienced and Chase says 45th. They crushed a dreadful Western Illinois team last week (a team that Indiana beat worse yesterday). They are picked 3rd in MAC with the conferences' leading returning rusher, but breaking in a new qb. This is their Super Bowl, and ND coming off of an emotional win and week of catching bouquets. I will not be laying the -27.5 but instead will be looking at the under in the Arkansas Okie State game (60.5).
Lay the -27.5. Freeman learned from the Marshall game 2 years ago. He's going to have the boys ready, and fired up. Coaches are going to go for the jugular early and keep the foot on their throat the whole game. It won't be close. ND is far more talented and you'll see it on display this afternoon.

Good article on Freeman and his vision

Not all done by prefessionals. Some of PFF staff involved were journalism majors who migrated into a journalism job; no real sprots experience. And have no true knowledge of plays called to know what players were expected to perform.
I read their staff is mostly ex football coaches/scouts/front office/industry insiders at the highest levels of the sport.

Good article on Freeman and his vision

There's a ton of controversy over PFF grades (especially as it relates to OL position) but it is one of the only publicly available scouting systems done by professionals so there's nothing really else to go off of.

Just examine the F+ differential!

BK post pressure….

By Meg Wochnick, Columbian staff writer

"At no point during the visit did Kelly hint or suggest he’d be leaving Notre Dame. Nor were the Merriweathers aware of any rumors swirling; family members weren’t on their cell phones while entertaining the coaches.

But during the visit, according to Dom Merriweather, Kelly stepped out for a 15-minute phone call. Soon after he returned, the coaches and family members sat down for a home-cooked meal featuring deviled eggs, barbecued shrimp and brisket burnt ends. The visit continued for another 90 minutes." Three servings to go with that 95 mil? Only a prick would do that.
They left out : after the call he suddenly returned with a Cajun accent !
