PSU QB is the best ND has faced. He is the real deal.

He was the third best QB to play yesterday. Riley and Angeli were both better than him.

I didn’t watch any of his games but he missed some very easy throws yesterday and didn’t complete one reception to a WR. Penn State settled for a field goal instead of TD because he couldn’t throw a 5 yard pass to the RB. He had multiple interceptions on passes longer than 10 yards. He’s a big kid who is hard to tackle but his passing accuracy was not good yesterday. 44 made him look good.

Stockton from GA was more dangerous and accurate than Drew. The USC QB played much better against ND as well…
Just as I stated before the game, Allar is a good QB no matter what he looks like vs ND. I still stand by the statement he is the best ND has faced. This is the worst game he played all season. Similar to what ND did to Rourke at Indiana.

Today's Orange Bowl press conference

Exactly.

FIRST......If PSU could be independent they would be independent.
SECOND......The bulletin board material was literally priceless.
THIRD......Stop complaining about conference championship games.......PSU chooses to get in a conference.
Fourth.....If you are going to try to clean up the mess you've just made you'll need to do a better job than talking about the the team you've just criticized HC's perfect haircut
DIP, you were right about the bulletin board material. Here is what The Athletic said about what Marcus Freeman thought about Franklin's comments at the presser:

"Notre Dame’s head coach had just returned from a final news conference before kickoff, the kind of throwaway media gathering usually forgotten before the last bowl trophy photo can be snapped. This wasn’t one of those times. Not for Freeman, Notre Dame’s head coach whose youth had cut against the grain of what it takes to succeed in this sport of old guards and vintage attitudes. A head coach panned for not winning enough big games decided to make a point about his counterpart.

"Penn State head coach James Franklin playfully asked Freeman how old he was. He complimented his hairline. He might as well have patted the 38-year-old on the head and told him what a good job he was doing. Because that’s how Freeman heard it, gritting his teeth throughout. And now Freeman was going to give that energy to a new source.

"His players could hardly believe it.

“He was angry. He was angry with the press conference thing, whatever was going on between that,” safety Xavier Watts said. “He was mad about that. All the anger went toward us and that anger went onto the field.”

I watched the press conference again and you could see the anger sort of seething in Freeman. Thank you James Franklin.

Refs suck

First holding call on Gray was legit. The late PI call was dog water. Didn't stop the receiver from going for the ball and there was minimum contact and McElroy needs to be punched in the throat.
I agree, but did they call the first one PI or holding? It was clearly holding to me. I don't necessarily think McElroy deserves to be punched, but once in awhile you can call out the refs for a bad call.

Freeman In Over His Head

I’ll be watching ND and bitching as loud as I did with the Weis hire. Another moron that had no HC experience but was going to recruit 5 star talent and win titles. Lol.

I threw an absolute fit when Weis was hired and everyone on this board called me an idiot. Same ole shot around here.
"I threw an absolute fit when Weis was hired and everyone on this board called me an idiot. Same ole shot around here."

And, you are still an idiot!

Allar just wasn't very good last night. The first pick called back was probably legit, but seemed ticky tack; the second was a bad call IMO, for reasons others have expressed here. Luckily there was nothing for the refs to gift PSU on the third.

Some QBs play scared when the game is on the line. That is how Allar played. Others step up their game. That is how Riley Leonard played. And that was all the difference.

Georgia and PSU being aggressive in their own territory with time winding down..,

Somewhere in Heaven Ara Parseghian was looking down at the game yesterday the moment Christian Gray made that interception and last weeks game against Georgia when RJ Oben made the strip sack and he felt vindicated know he made the right call when he had Coley O’Brien run out the clock in the epic Game of the Century 10-10 tie against Michigan State in 1966. Parseghian made the right call playing it safe. Aggressive play calling proved costly for Georgia and PSU.

So who do you wanna see in Atlanta?

The truth with OSU has to reside somewhere in the middle.

Mere weeks ago, they were in meltdown mode. There were serious talks about firing Ryan Day, their offense was completely held at bay against the worst Michigan team in 10 years, and some were arguing they may not even belong in the playoffs.

Now everybody is touting them the head-and-shoulders best team in America, as if they (and their two losses) are invincible.

I'd go with ESPN's FPI. They rate us around a 25.7 and them a 26.1. They would be the favorites, but I don't see why it would be some massive upset. We should be able to somewhat replicate what Michigan did to them.
I've been thinking that too.....

They look unbeatable. But......Michigan kicked their asses just after Thanksgiving.

I like how you phrased that: the truth is somewhere in the middle.

If we catch them on the right night, maybe we can steal Michigan's formula and take that game??

Refs suck

I thought the referees last night were especially atrocious. Good grief! Penn State was getting away with multiple offensive holdings. The two pass interference calls were close, but a little suspect to me. It also seemed like every ball spot for us would be marked the half yard to a full yard short of where we actually should’ve been.

I hope this won’t be the crew for the championship game

The second call wasn't actually a penalty IMO but it only somewhat *appeared* like PI because the ball was so underthrown. Naturally, when covering a receiver down the field, any ball underthrown will cause the defender to impede their access to the ball. With no defender, the ball would have landed two yards in front of the receiver's feet. It was almost identical to the horrible PI call against Georgia. You in essence are rewarding the QB for a terrible pass, which is ridiculous.

Also, it was akin to throwing a flag during a hail mary. It was triple coverage I believe, so with everybody in such close proximity, it's naturally going to be a little chippy. At best, it was a 50-50 call, but given how critical the play was, you do the less controversial thing and let the players play. Nobody is tuning into watch these dorky refs determine the outcome.
