Will Wimbush start next year?

E

err. I guess we forget true greatness needs no warmup games or excuses. Case in point Joe Montana. I think it took him 2 quarters of his first game on the road to get the hang of things. Thank goodness he was a big game player who sucked in practice. Got his chance and never needed the label of first time starter Excuses
Ski, hold on a second, no one is saying that Wimbush is great, or another JM. What I said was cut him some slack, he’s young and gaining experience, and I’ll think he’ll be a good one. Only time will tell whose correct.

I think that’s a fair question. All season long I’ve been expecting improvement in his passing, and we’ve seen steady progress, until last night. That said, he’s been in the system over two years now, and in his biggest game of the season, his mechanics and accuracy sucked. I couldn’t believe the wobbly wild throws, and actually wondered if he had an injury to his throwing hand that went unreported. The optimist in me expects to see Wimbush excel as both a runner and passer against Navy and Stanford and in a big bowl game. The pessimist says we’ll have a legitimate QB competition this Spring.
Telx this is good question that i think will be answered in the next 3 games... with that in Mind kizer was a very good passer but had a terrible record as a starting QB.. Tony Rice needed to throw darts and he was a winner... BW right now is 7-2 as a starter vs good competition and he really has little help at WR / TE this year . KS returned in week 5 , ESB is ordinary etc. The system might best to serve him better to run more . The incoming frosh will be hot on his heels though if he falters next year early.

Got it Diehard.

Ok. I like BW. Just wish. Wish. Wish. He could sling it consistently

Ski...I’ve read elsewhere that it’s really a disservice to Wimbush to say he's Been in the system three years and should be better, etc....as I wrote earlier. The view is that he’s had Kelly and Sanford and now Rees instructing him over these three years, and that Sanford in particular emphasized scheme over mechanics in practice, etc... Rees apparently has him doing very respected passing drills that emphasize mechanics and muscle memory, and Wimbush reportedly looks very good in practice. This has yet to translate to games beyond the incremental improvement we’ve all noted leading up to the Miami disaster. My view is that he looked damn good in high school, is now a junior in college, and I think we should expect much better passing performance than we’re getting. We see too many QBs every Saturday for other teams look better in the passing game, including true freshmen. With nine games under his belt and some hard knocks, I look for Wimbush to show marked improvement in his passing over these next two games.

The real question is not if BW will start next season, but rather, will Tommy R be coaching him.

I look forward to seeing what type of progress he makes between the end of the season and a bowl game. Bowl preparation in invlolves just about as much, if not more, practice time as Spring practice.

Consider that if game strategy was not ill designed slow developing plays against a defensive front seven that was known for it’s quickness, but that instead of East/West the attack was N/S with quick hitting power plays, how much different do you think that might have impacted Wimbush’s effectiveness?

You can’t discount the game plan’s ineffective offensive approach when evaluating Wimbush’s play.
Many of the plays were doomed from the design. Example, the Miami D was such that the TE should have been a big factor. Was it?

I am with you TelX. I don’t buy any excuses. I like the kids ability. Don’t know why he can’t put his practice throws into a game

There are players like that tho

Can’t tell if he is one of them or will start clicking. I do know that I am really disappointed in him for how he played against Canes. And I M not referring to just his passing

The guy did not play confidently. No attitude. I don’t get what happened. He did not roll out. Did not try to run. Believe me I was in nosebleed and could see whole field. He had opps to run

The whole game plan and Wimbush was a train wreck. Believe me. We could have won that game. Canes deserved to win cause they played great n we sucked. But we did not have to suck even with Bad passing. He could have rolled out and his throws would not be tipped and he could see the field better. He could have rpo all day and spread out the canes congestion.

It was classic Kelly shit plan and Wimbush should have tried to take over the game. Could he have been afraid? Lethargic?

And claypool is my goat next to Wimbush. Then McGlinchey

Goats-
Kelly
Elko
Long
Wimbush
Claypool
McGlinchey

If claypool doesn’t drop that first quarter pass he runs to at least the 5. St brown had no shot. He was overthrown

QBs don't make a lot of progress from year to year under BK, except for EG. This has to be a concern, not only for 2018, but why no improvement this season?
