what was the reason for going for two on the very first possession?

Or not kicking a field goal from 35 yard on 4th down?

Please take those four points in the future so we don't have to sweat late in the game

Lost the first quarter momentum ,should have had a 3 touchdown lead and not given Virginia a chance to get back into the game .Play calling is a problem.

I guess he forgot about Culture over Scheme and tried to work his schematic advantage - remember the "better get used to it quote" after giving the Tulsa game away.

I don't mind the fake field goal early, both in the game and in the season. I don't understand the two-point try.

Now future teams can spend a little practice time defending the fake.

yep! why the 2 pt try? what in hell was the 'committee' thinking?

was it a point they thought would factor into the outcome? (I hope not)
was it to move up in the polls? (good grief!)
was it done to demonstrate "genius" and wound up = "stupid"

Notice you didn't mention the fake field goal as being 'cute'. Is it because that worked? Surely it would have been mentioned by you if it didn't work - right?

ND won a hard fought game against a quality opponent who notoriously plays extremely well in their home openers. ND has a lot to clean up this week but the bottom line is the Irish came away with a win.

but who did not think of NW at the time that that point was lost! de je vu all over again?

Perse, it didn't remind me of the NW game at all. BK is confident in his kicking game. I even liked the risk of going on fourth and one rather than trying a 52 yard FG.

Actually, what came to mind for me was Chip Kelly's coaching style at Oregon. He would often go for 2 especially on the first TD.

i think those swinging gate extra points are called and then if the players on the field see something that looks like an advantage they have the ability to just go with it, if nothing is there they come in and kick the extra point. As to why they didnt kick the FG, I have no idea. I guess its something to be asked in a presser.

Did anybody watch Jim Hardballs team line up and pound the ball today? What happened to our 2 and 3 tight end sets.

So I was floored that we went for 2. Why?
And then the voice of doom --

From the kitchen the wife says: " what is he thinking? That will come back to haunt us"

I dismissed it cause we just killed Texas

Don't ya know, Kelly almost cost us a game again

That call made no sense
