When the Rankings Comes Out Tues, ND will be ranked no higher than 12

The committee also supposedly looks at injuries and ND is winning while missing 8 starters and technically playing their 3rd string qb. Hate all you want but if you would of told any ND fan that ND would lose Folson Zaire Bars and Smythe on O as well as Tranquil Hand Crawford and Sebastian on D the season would of been wrote off. All these "ND Fans" talking shit about the way ND has played is absurd
not to mention the biggest loss of all in my opinion jarron jones.

I have been overall., just disappointed with some of the outcomes. I don't see why it's so hard to believe that some fans want to see us as the best of the best. Isn't that the whole point of playing or has ND lowered their standards? It used to be championship or bust.
I want that too but I don't expect it . it's not realistic. the talent levels are pretty even across the board for at least 20 teams.

Good relative to their conference. But their conference is weak overall with some exceptions. We should have been in different league and showed them they aren't ready for big boy football.

Their talent level is extremely poor. They had no business playing with us for 4 quarters.

Just think about this : we are barely better than Temple on a neutral field in year 6 of the Kelly era. Sorry for lacking enthusiasm.
why does it matter how they win ? winning is the ultimate goal.

poor ? based on what ? its not about enthusiasm its about realistic expectations. nd is now at the level where they can compete with any team in the country. check the records, the number of undefeated teams any given year is minimal. it's extremely difficult to do. nd is 7-1 with a close loss on the road to an undefeated top 5 team and you have no enthusiasm. not sure anything would satisfy you other than perfection. good luck with that.

who said they should be envious ? if you want to go by recruiting rankings then don't play the games. just announce the national champion every year on the first wednsday in February. they aren't robots. they are humans who make errors, play above their abilities at times and thrive on the moment. the temple kids played great, disciplined football and made some big plays when they had to. and yes it was a home field advantage. do some research. temple has played there before. do you truly expect nd players and coaches to be perfect every week ?
My point is that we had the advantage across the board. They obviously do not have an edge in talent. They don't have an edge in depth. They did not have an edge with the crowd. They might have a slight edge with experience.

It was a close game either due to poor coaching or unmotivated players. Hard to excuse either.

that's nonsense. again, no credit to temple. unmotivated ? that is so ridiculous. tell me, in every sport does the more talented team win every game ? you must be one of those who believes that nd never gets beat, they only lose.

was Georgetown a better team than villanova in 85 ? who was the better boxer buster douglas or mike Tyson ? the list is endless. its called competition. get real.

Not sure I disagree...
I believe the following will be in front of ND

Ohio St.
Michigan st.
Iowa
TCU
Baylor
Clemson
LSU
BAMA
Florida
Stanford

I could see as the next 5

OK State
OU
ND
Florida St
Memphis

Then again I could see ND as 8 being the second 1 loss team.

ND beat a nationally ranked undefeated team last nite a team that gave Penn St one of it's two losses this season Penn St's only other loss was to OH St

ND's SOS is 16
7-1
one loss by two points @ clemson - pretty good for " year 6 "

Last year everyone thought ND would be ranked higher then they were. Like I said I could see a ranking anywhere from 6-14

We can only speculate, but what do you think that Baylor, Alabama, or OSU would have done to Temple? I'm pretty sure they would have the backups playing by the 4th quarter.

In year 6 of the Kelly era, we should be dominating games like these. We should have an elite team by now. Temple has one of the least talented rosters in the country based on Rivals, and they aren't running some gimmick style to equalize that.
OSU - you mean the #1 ranked team (and defending national champs) that beat those powerhouses like Northern Illinois and Indiana by only seven points? That team? I don't think the backups played.

As for Baylor, who have they played? SMU? Freaking Lamar? Texas Tech, who gave up 70 points yesterday?Nobody plays defense in the Big 12, so don't get too caught up in them.

Temple was undefeated and ranked 21st coming in. It's not the Temple of years past. Teams can get better with good coaching.

Do your homework first.

bille

one point though, when you are defending NC you get some slack; esp when the HC has won 3 NC's.

We will find out more when Temple meets Memphis. My suspicion is they are both top 20 teams when all is said and done!

How should I credit Temple? With better players? Better coaches? More time to prepare?

Stop using examples of rare instances and act like this is what happened last night. ND notoriously plays down to the competition. That is the rule not the exception. Look at the teams I mentioned and see their point differential. By and large they take care of business unlike us.

We should be maxed out in year 6 of the Kelly era. If this is the ceiling we have reached, color me disappointed. It's playoffs or bust and anything that does not help us get there I consider disappointing.

Says the fan of Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State, Michigan State, USC, Florida St., Florida, Georgia, Clemson, Oklahoma, TCU, Stanford, etc., etc., etc. every year. Only four teams get in. Be realistic. ND can go 11-1 and still not make it. It's not as easy as you seem to make it out to be.

What if ND wins out until Stanford? If ND goes 10-2 do you consider that disappointing?

I predicted 10-3 but I expect to be in the playoff race until the end given it's year 6. I am disappointed if we do not get in, as that is why we play the game. To win championships.

10-2 is a very good season. very good. Will it get a major bowl? depends on too many things outside ND's control.
But too be sure it is a v good season and it will not hurt recruiting, so the building can continue.

8-4 would have been 2 steps forward and two steps back.

To clarify, I predicted 10-3 because it seems that we lose 1 or 2 games against inferior opponents. The bowl game would account for the third loss in my pre-season prediction.

My EXPECTATIONS and PREDICTIONS are not synonymous.

Let's put it this way, coming into the season I wanted to see improvement and see old habits die hard. Pandering to inferior teams and not cashing in on the red zone has been a problem for SO long now.

Jesus loves everyone except you and perse.

and Jesus will remember you said that; probably the most inappropriate post in the history of this board.

We now have a poster that is so narcissistic that he feels he can speak for Jesus.

That is the last post I Will ever read by you. In the absence of Mods, I encourage the entire forum to put you on ignore. There are just some things that inappropriate.

Well, there's four weeks left and ND is still in the hunt.

I certainly understand what you're saying. Of course you're in it to win, otherwise why play? CK and the boys are doing their best and hopefully finish well and get in.

getting sensitive in your old age -

Narcissist ? You " encourage everyone on this board " to ignore a guy who made a pretty good joke at your expense - you have spewed more bull shit on this board than any ten posters . Artemis was simply acknowledging his disdain for you and your BS .

Narcissist - 25,000 posts - pot see kettle

I am certain due to your enormous popularity and sage like vision for football and all things psychological that posters will heed your advice and put Artemis on ignore - me? artemis just made my top 5 posters of the year award along with top 3 one liners - Kudos AG you accomplished much in few words !!

Yeah, we have a chance to make our case. But simply winning won't be enough except against Stanford. I expect another frustrating game at Pitt. Would LOVE to be wrong.

there is no great team this year deadmanramsey so I don't get you're point. Stanford almost lost to a so so wsu team last night that hasn't been to a bowl game in over ten years and ohio st almost lost to northern Illinois team this season also and ole miss lost to Memphis who is also from the same conference as temple. don't know why so many posters this morning can't just be happy that our irish are 7-1

And mighty Alabama got beat by that same ole miss team that was beaten soundly by Memphis! (Still can't believe the Texas team we shellacked whipped Turnover's Beloved Stoops' Okla.) And UCLA was lucky to beat a hapless Colorado team (who got beat by Hawaii!). I'm with you man! Given all our early injuries (I liked our O-line with Bars in there!) I'm happy to be 7-1 (and a yard away from 8-0.)

Now... Let's get more consistent on D and fix our red zone offense... Next week I want to see Kelly blindside the leprechaun!

you haven't watched ohio state then. again, temple doesn't get any credit for their performance. when procise makes a great run is it because he's good or the opponent is bad? I swear some people should read a book or ten on football before they post.

Be disappointed. There are plenty of other teams to root for. Other teams learn to block and tackle. You obviously have never competed in anything before.

Based on barely beating Temple...TEMPLE!!!!!, Florida and Iowa will jump us. Lucky to be at 12. OK St. May jump us too. Maybe 13th. Again:

Look at their outstanding recruiting:

2014 #59
2013 #85
2012 #77
2011 #108
2012 #75

Look at their formidable schedule (Opponent's combined record 21-38)

Sep. 5 Penn State W 27-10 (7-2)
Sep. 12 at Cincinnati W 34-26 (5-3)
Sep. 19 at Massachusetts W 25-23 (1-7)
Oct. 2 at Charlotte W 37-3 (2-6)
Oct. 10 Tulane W 49-10 (2-6)
Oct. 17 UCF W 30-16 (0-9)
Oct. 22 at East Carolina W 24-14 (4-5)

Good call mutt - glad Kelly calls better plays than you do rankings -

Do any of those teams have a freshman QB playing his 2nd road game in a nationally televised game?

I agree. I'm happy they're 7-1 and will still be happy (if not a lil disappointed. 2 of loss on the road...) if they go 11-1/10-2 and miss the playoffs. Next week is huge. Pitt will be ready.

no way our irish drop out of the top ten after beating a top 20 undefeated team on the road in a close game. if our irish drop in the rankings then so should Stanford with the way they were handed a victory to them because of wsu turnovers and a missed game winning field goal by wsu
Underrated post but you know what time it is: the committee will spend 30 mins debating ND. Pinching and prodding the Irish like they're a science project before settling on their ranking. They'll spend 2 mins on Stanford. Never mind that Stanford hasn't played a Top 50 defense. Never mind that Stanford was outclassed on the road at North Western. Never mind that ND lost by 2 on the road in a hurricane. You know ND gets nothing handed to them.
