Yes you were high on him before his senior year, it was not until his senior year film that he showed this potential and I came on board.
That hasn't been working well for the majority of our commits that look "regular" their Jr year, they still have looked that way their senior year. It's a list too long and why our interior dline will be significantly short on HS recruited talent next year.
I disagree with your last paragraph and I think a lot of beat writers from listening to podcasts disagree with that big time
Guys to me who were 3 stars as juniors who have become 4 stars and impact players after senior year
1. Brandon Logan. Absolute steal here. I think a few ND guys think he is the best safety in the class. Terrific athlete.
2. Elijah Burress. I wasn't big on him really at all as a junior. I was wrong. The coaches got their evaluation right. Hes twitchy, runs good routes, good not great speed. Hands. He will play at ND
3. Koo Kia. Kid can ball. Rangy athletic nasty. Big improvements
4. Dom Hulak. Don't know if he was a 3 or 4 as a junior can't remember. Was a 3 to me so I'll put him here. He's bigger and longer than I thought and twitchier. He's a vyper for sure now and he will play at some point. Good prospect
5. Cree Thomas. Mike Mickens special. Enough said. He got much better
I don't know what James and Richardson where as juniors. Never watched their film. They are definitely 4 stars. Matty Augustine took a jump as well
I mean even Bettis looked much better as a senior than before
So I think your premise is just wrong
There are some guys who didn't take a jump or a small one. But a lot took jumps for sure
