Just one comment on Coach 8 & 4: When he came here 7 years ago, he stood up on his soap box and told us he didn’t care for the type of players he saw on the roaster. He wanted to bring in his RKG’s, the right kind of guys; he’s had 7 years to do that. Now, with this last press conference, he distances himself from their contributions, their talents and their commitment to the Notre Dame program. He bears no responsibility; (even though he recruited them, trained them and prepared them) at least he didn’t at that press conference, to the quality of their play. This is no longer about him, but on all of those who do not exhibit the enthusiasm for his leadership and skills in preparing his team to play. Fine, good for you Coach 8 & 4, we’re the ones watching this mess. You have failed at every opportunity to present this team. The mille-second you had any moment of success, what was your first impulse – seek an interview with a Pro team. Much Like Ty, arranging two 3 year contracts so you could bolt at any moment for the pros, this exercise was your way of paving a career path to something else. What worked at D2 doesn’t translate at this level. Now you are frustrated and amazed that here, with this talent level, your style doesn’t work.
Finally, Swarbrick and the legion of 8 & 4 apologists now see what any objective observer has understood for the last 5 years - Kelly is a product of the Peter Principal and we are the ones who are damaged. Whatever happens, no more blow holes from the east coast. Get someone who has earned the respect of the industry and someone who can earn the respect of the fans. WE are the consumers.
