So long Notredame

Where have I advocated the suppression of speech? As I mentioned before, I chuckle at those who talk about how "intolerant" the left is, but want to punish students for exercising speech/expression yesterday.
It wasn't an expression of free speech but an appalling classless move by a bunch of coddled head up their assess arrogant 21 - 22 yr Olds . The expression of free speech was the vice president Mike Pence s speech at the invitation of Notre Dame . They objected to his right to speak bc they don't agree with him. That's anti free speech. They could have respectfully listened and then disagreed and protested to their hearts content after he was finished. What they did was imply he's illegitimate and has no right to even address them. A duly elected vice president of the United States. Hubris without limit. Undoubtedly those graduates like you are imbued in the political correctness philosophy of the left that has run dangerously amok in this country. No doubt short on facts and reflection but long on vitriol and emotionality. Homophobia, sexism, racism and anti environment are code words for today's liberal adhominiem attacks for anyone with the gall to oppose their liberal / socialist doxology

You must've had similar thoughts for the protestors when Obama spoke, otherwise you would be a hypocrite.

Nope. I believe you may be responding to the wrong thread. Who wants to engage in a teleconference call tomorrow? I'll do my best to arrange it, but will also be pretty busy. Still, I'm not sure how many people I can accommodate on our teleconference line, but maybe we can all have a civil discussion? The first order of business will be whether one can have limited posts, but still be informed. Please be ready to discuss that topic, first and foremost. If you want to patch in, please respond here. I'll do my best to check this site in the morning. I can already tell that I'm likely going to regret having made such a proposal....

So discusted with nd students walking out on vp pence. My daughter wanted to go to Norte dame. Now I'm pushing her to go to Standard. I will no longer root for no football
.

Well, it was about 75 students, out of probably about 2,500 graduates. That's 3%. It would probably be more than that at Stanford.

Good riddance. Some of the best news I've heard all day.

Has she also eliminated "Standard" from consideration?
I wouldn't want her to go to a school where a pr/@k like you attended. Your jealousy is obvious! Btw its 85 here today. How's your Mobile home? Does the heater work?

So, does the number pf posts one makes equate with intelligence and insight? Does the number of posts one makes verify his/her credibility? If that's what you believe, you're an idiot, on your best day.

No, the number of posts does not make a poster an expert or an idiot but I still suggest a longer period of gauging the current tone of the board before beginning to lecture current posters. I will note that I made no qualified comment about you personally, or your intelligence.

My jealousy of what? Someone who can't spell Notre Dame or Stanford? Or someone who thinks that the "mobile" in "mobile home" is capitalized.

My home is perfectly wonderful. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

I live in SoCal and you don't! You could not afford to live here. This is the best place to live on earth. You are jealous!!!

I was told you live at the YMCA with your FB

the solution to these walkouts is simple; put an asterisk next to their name; nothing more. When inquiries are made regarding them, by future employers...let the asterisk be the 'voice'. That way the employer gets freedom of expression too!
While an excellent idea, probably yet another "violation" of the students "right to confidentiality" and the University can't do that even if they had the desire to do so. Were I a prospective employer I sure would have a flag up during the interview process. End of the day, those who think they will find "safe areas/zones" into which they can run and hide when something doesn't go their way in the normal workplace are in for a big surprise. They will rapidly be directed to the fastest route to a one way door marked EXIT!

Both your attempted insults and your original post leads me to hope that for your daughter's sake, she got her mother's genes.

These are the days I miss Wax and the old administration. Rivals has really destroyed this place.

Don't let the door hit ya.

I check in here 2-3 times per week, but I don't post much. I check in, hopefully, to see some football news, not peoples' partisan political views. I have a pretty darned good gauge of what's been going on here, and I don't like it. Go to some other site to argue politics. This is NOT the place to do that. Every day, the level of silliness increases.

As an alum I was quite proud of the students who walked out. Exercising their right of respectful demonstration. Supporting their LBGTQ colleagues and their colleagues from undocumented families, and people studying at ND who are from Muslim countries and women. I watched it, some walked out, many applauded Pence, others stayed quiet. That is my ND, pretty conservative, with a spattering of progressives. Catholic in the best sense in that they show concern for the unfortunate and the forgotten -- on both sides of the political spectrum. If you think Stanford is going to be different you're in for a rude awakening.

Maybe Liberty University?
So much drivel in one place.

how would you like to be in an open life boat on the high seas with one of that sort?

Nonsense. No one objected to the speakers right to speak. The students in question exercised their freedom of choice to not stay and listen. No different than you or I changing the TV or radio station if we don't t care for the content.

So you are endorsing discrimination in the hiring process based on personal beliefs being different than your own ? Sounds legal.

the way the media is portraying the story you are led to believe all the grads walked out

It was under 100 snowflakes

And how many snowflakes are upset with their silent protest? Judging by Facebook, tens of thousands at least.

Sal

as long as you keep posting I will never be the 'worst'. Keep stirring the pot!
Ok buddy. You keep name-calling high school and college kids who want to play football at ND and I will keep holding out hope that one day when I do a drive by for old time's sake you will have said something worthwhile

Update

My daughter has eliminated ND from consideration. Down to Stanford and USC.

I won't be watching ND anymore.
Wait the girl form Southern California eliminated a school in the Midwest for two equally tiered schools in Southern California... this seems like it could only be related to the protest. Never seen anything like this before.

What's really comical is that, if you lined up ND, USC and Stanford, ND would far and away be the most conservative of the three schools.

Totally. Congrats to him and his family that his daughter has the ability to choose from those schools but lets be real, if you are basing your college decision on one protest... lol man life is going to be weird going to college at either of those Cali schools

Odds of the OP's story being true? IMO, < 1%.

Doesn't the left preach tolerance and acceptance? Tolerance for illegal immigrants, LGBT, Muslims and many other minority groups. Why weren't they tolerant of the VP, why weren't they tolerant of the election but rather destroyed property and burned the flag?

Why aren't they tolerant of opposing views and tolerant of religion? Manny Pacquiao posted a video on twitter expressing how he thought homosexuality was wrong, he was banned from several public establishments in LA including the mall. Tolerance and acceptance? I think not. It's a one way street with the progressives. That's not freedom of speech, they are absolutely destroying freedom of speech.

There are countless of examples of teachers that have referred to LGBT students by a word they don't deem fitting and have taken administrative and legal action.. over speech.

Tolerance doesn't extend to hate speech. If Pacquiao had stated that he thinks being Black is wrong or that being a Jew is wrong, don't you think that there would be the same outcry. Hate speech arises from ignorance and it is difficult for anyone to be tolerant of ignorance.

By the way, if you are actually going to try and argue your cause, try not to use generalizations - it undercuts your credibility. The Left is not a single, homogenous group. I disagree on issues with as many of those that are considered to be on the Left as those that are considered to be on the Right. No one is completely right and no one is completely wrong. Hell, I even found some beliefs in common with Marine La Pen and I think she is a whacko.

The saddest thing is that he was still a better option than the alternative. I am in the commercial real estate business, where his reputation is being a sleezebag blowhard (versus Ivanka who has a very solid reputation among people who have worked with her), if not worse, and nobody likes him. But even with that, he gave us a chance for meaningful change and wouldn't be scared to take on major issues. He didn't get elected because people like him, and I don't hardly know anyone who likes him now. The idea of Trump lovers is a joke, NOBODY loves him. But you don't have to.

That was my thought - the headline at Stanford would be "100 students leave protest to attend Pence graduation speech."

It's almost impossible to comprehend that anybody would flee the liberal values of Notre Dame for the warm womb of Stanford, that bastion of conservative values. But hey, some kids voted with their feet this weekend. It's like the definition of irony. I guess the alt-right calls Haight-Ashbury home and we didn't know it...
