reports coming out..... Golson to transfer

I guess he took snaps away from the other QB's who will be around next fall. MZ and DK could use all the snaps they can get, even in the spring.
If he had straight up transferred without competing in spring ball he would have gotten jammed up with people saying he didn't want to compete. No win situation there. I am glad he competed and think him being around for spring ball helped MZ by pushing him to bring the A game everyday.

Problem is two fold - depth now an issue and the 3rd stringer didn't have a very convincing show in his Blue Gold work. Hopefully Zaire will get the intermediate throws down by the autumn.

I will be rooting for Golson as long as he isn't playing against us. He helped get us to the title game in 2012. He made a big mistake in 2013, owned up to it and came back when he could have had an easier path elsewhere. He graduated (or will soon) from ND, will forever be an ND alum and an ND man. Although I would have loved to have seen him as the Irish QB this year, he's met all his obligations and doesn't owe the univerity anything more. His final year of fb should be about what's best for him and I do wish him the best.

I wanted EG to win the starting job and thought he gave ND the best chance to win (just cant put a 13-0 season on a guy who has started 1 game, the season will have serious bumps). That being said, he has some serious intangibles EG lacked and I thought he looked better in the spring game than EG, most thought it was EG. I thought this was the year for ND to make another run with an experienced QB, upper classmen leading the way at many positions. Now, as usual, ND is another year away. And ND will lose a lot after 2015 (Stanley, Russell, Schmidt, Day, Farley, Martin, and likely Jaylon). Hopefully, Sanford and BK get MZ tuned up for a big run. ND has the horses this year to make a serious run and it will likely come down to the QB play.

No worries. When one to closes another one opens. Good luck to Golson. He is a good player and should do fine wherever he goes. Malik now has an opportunity that wasn't there before. I also feel that with this news Kelly will adjust his thinking and hopefully use the running game more to help his young QB.

See the following schools.

SCar
LSU
Georgia
Michigan
Texas

Could be a smaller school. But if so it would be a huge waste of talent

This is not good news - whether you look at it as in the short term or the long term. MZ is very talented but still very green and we now are precariously thin at QB. Also, MZ is still a project (to be kind) on the intermediate throws. We have a great group of receivers and we will have trouble fully utilizing those players. For anyone looking for smashmouth football at ND, you will get your fill this coming season.

Will give you the first solid link I get. It is hitting the wires now
I was thought they was saying Golson will be transfer to other school by the false reporters. I was in ND today. They was told Golson finally catch up his decide to transfer other school so he can full time play this fall. I guess he will play for SC..

Golson should always have everyone's respect for sitting out 2013 and coming back. Compared to guys that transfer immediately at any sign of adversity.

How in the heck can Urban keep three QBs happy and BK can't keep one around? It was either MZ or EG who was going to leave I have a feeling. Turns out it was EG. This is not good at all. First off, if EG goes to an Irish opponent, he knows our offense. He knows the short yardage package. He knows the Red Zone package. He knows the offense and its tendencies. He knows each player, offense and defense, and their weaknesses. I'm sure he would most gladly pass all that info on to his new HC. Secondly, MZ is one snap away from a third string QB leading this offense. It is impossible to put a smiley face on this latest news. It's always something.

Could be a blessing in disguise? If Zaire turns out as good as he looked against LSU, we are in for a great season ? Injuries can happen, but most teams go with one QB and he usually plays the whole season?
Hopefully , we can get our back ups ready to play as well, and them actively involved with some game time?
Golson would have been great insurance, but if he stayed and was unhappy, he could have become a devisive factor.
Perhaps , he can have a great season elsewhere, and get a shot at the pros?
If that is what he wants, I wish him the best of luck!

Urb hasn't kept 3 QB's happy.. 2 were injured last year, easy to be satisfied about playing time when youre on crutches. I'll be shocked if Braxton doesn't transfer like EG has done.

I was thinking the same thing. Just because Urbie says they are happy, doesn't mean they are happy. Two of them are about to find out they aren't the starter.

Well, as of right now Urbie has three QB s in camp. All could start. All have started. Three quality QBs in the fold. That's where he stands right now. Happy may have been an over estimation but at least they are still Buckeyes. No one has left and I don't even hear any rumblings of a transfer as of now. We are down to a one time starter and a third stringer. Makes one feel a little uneasy. EG leaving is big.

Very disappointed. I'm a big fan of Everett, I cannot blame him if he foresaw a two-qb system. He has an ND degree and can go be the man at a place like Texas without fear of being yanked for TR or MZ anymore. Maybe this will force BK to run the ball and play more smash mouth football. You got to love MZ's attitude though, he was leaps and bounds above where EG was in this area.

You're a big fan of a sulker and turnover machine?

that EG leaving is a good thing - a "blessing in disguise" etc. is just spin. MZ will be a great QB the next few years but it would have been better to have both on the team even if HCBK had committed to start the season with Golson,,,,, only to keep him at ND.......

I was a fan of Golson until he pretty much quit on the team and gave up on himself. No room for that at this level, especially playing for ND and especially against the schedule. Golson is a good talent, but doesn't have the leadership capability that is needed at the position or the mental fortitude. I give him credit for working his way back to ND like he did and wish him all the luck in the world in whatever he chooses. I just won't miss the drama that came with him.

How do you figure it is just spin. He shat the bed the 2nd half of last season. The chances of improving his decision making and mental fortitude in one off season were highly unlikely. I wanted him back but as soon as he hit a tough stretch he was going to get pulled for Malik. I was hoping that this may have pushed him to take his game to a higher level.
Now the team can squarely get behind Malik. He can take control of the offense and not have to look over his shoulder. He seems to have leadership qualities that Everett never displayed. We will see in a few months.

I have to think Golson, Kelly and his QB's, and offensive productivity is all about the playbook. I think Golson has had trouble with it all along and Kelly is trying to open it up. I'm speculating that Zaire gives us a better chance at using more of Kelly's offense. Golson did some great things on the field--and much of it just be sheer talent--but the offense ran too slow and became predictable. Play calls took forever too often and contributed to losses of momentum. Golson tried to make things happen and, last season, those attempts became turnovers. More plays, more "looks", the QB running threat, Zaire's arm, and a credible running game and we have a great season ahead.
