I get why they offered him, but these are the types or players you try to get to be the 4th or 5th wr in a class, not potentially the second.

We have a solid WR in burress, a slow big safety in Bettis, a big project in Richardson, and big project offers out there.

May need to move Golden to WR.

We shouldn't need any freshman to come in and play next year and I haven't watched his film at all yet but if he has upside I don't mind them taking him.

Take high upside guys and develop them

We’re pretty late to the dance with these last minute efforts. The fact is we struck out on our top three targets, and we’ve been struggling since to make this up. Richardson may in fact be a project, but I love his potential and considered his commitment As a huge plus. Burress is having a really good season and I think we have a very good get with him. This latest offer will likely result in a commitment. Parnham is tall, runs a very good 40, and appears pretty athletic. But, his ranking is very weak as is his offer list. We can’t keep looking for diamonds in the rough to fill needs. Hope we pull off a flip with Meadows; and as you say, Golden might be our most talented receiver in this class, even though recruited as a DB.

Meadows I thought was going to really put it together with all his talent but he's still a project player as well. Elite upside but not much production at all. Is it the system, is it the QB or is it him? I'm not sure but if we get Meadows I wouldn't count on him next year at least

Yeah he has upside but like richardson, about as raw as you can get at the WR position. Makes meadows look like a finished product.

Recruiting and actually signing elite players at certain positions is difficult for Marcus Freeman, just like it was for Brian Kelly.

He hasn't had too much problems with that since he's been here

I also feel Jack Larsen could be a border WR instead of TE. If worse comes to worse. Portal might have some steals too. It's a sad statement that ND had 30-40 looks at wrs and not a bite except Burris, Bettis and now Richardson. Something needs to shape up in that wr area.

Marcus Freeman indeed has problems signing elite players at certain positions.

You don’t believe that because you consider all Notre Dame players elite.

Their QB is good, but has thrown only 103 passes in nine games. The other wr is a burner, and typically has five plus yards separation on his defender, making him an easy target and a TD machine. I still think Meadows is elite and hope like hell he flips. Can’t disagree that he might not make significant contributions until his sophomore year, but as you say, elite upside.

No not at all. There's players I wouldn't even have allowed to commit in this class if I was coach. So dumb comment

Now back to actual substance

There is only 1 position on the roster that MF will not have signed a player I would consider elite and that is DT

Carr
Love
Williams
Flanigan
Lambert

Young
KVA
Gray
Blair

Some positions have multiple but I got every position except for DT

I thought Vernon might address the dt void. Perhaps two years from now we’ll be singing Dixon’s praises.

DT hasn’t even been great, let alone elite. Just decent. That needs to change. CB recruiting hasn’t been elite by Top 100 or 150 standards but seem to be identifying the right guys.

Nobody knows how these kids assimilate to college life and football. Faison is a great example of a kid nobody knew of.
Love watching this team coached by Marcus Freeman.

Morrison Gray Moore Zachary Golden were all dudes coming out of HS regardless of recruiting rankings.

Gray Zachary and Golden were all highly rated though. All top 150 guys

Fair, though Gray is outside 150 composite. Freeman recruits very well on D besides DT.
WR/DT are clearly the spots that are average. Don’t worry as much about WR as some but DT may come back to haunt us.

Gray ranked 102 in the composite.

We were battling heads up with Ohio State and LSU for Christian Gray. When he committed to us he was about 90th overall. He was absolutely elite.

Young wasnt when he committed but was a top 100 after his Sr year

Like I said, both elite players

They were both 3 star diamonds in the rough that we got in early, and they especially young exploded sr year
That's incorrect. Gray was a top 100 player when he committed and throughout his recruitment

This is the wrong information here

You're wrong. Look at his composite ranking history. In 2021 whe. He was a sophomore he was ranked a 4 star 168th player. He moved up consistently and was actually the 78th player on the composite when he committed. He ended up 102nd

Your wrong. He was elite his whole recruitment. And we beat LSU and Ohio State heads up for him after visits to all 3.

Great recruiting win. He was elite as a soph

You are misremembering. He was a stud his entire high school career
