Some talk of him transferring to ND.
Maybe just his agent putting stuff out there. Read it on yahoo sports today. Just an fyi. Thoughts.

Don't want him.
Supposedly he's fallen in the eyes of the NFL, and is not a future 1st round pick, or certainly not a lock, in what is pretty roundly considered a poor draft for QBs. And he won't be able to even hold his job at Texas, lest the great one 'Arch' Manning transfers out. So he has to transfer himself. It's convenient for him because if his star really has fell with the NFL, he can still make a boatload with NIL. I wouldn't pay 3 million dollars for him. Because he will likely disappoint. Maybe Ole Miss will want him. They seem to pay any price.

This is intriguing. I initially was fully on board with not taking a quarterback and rolling with Angeli or one of the young guys. If we took a transfer, why would any QB sign here? You’re unlikely to play and ND hasn’t proven they can develop quarterbacks anyways.

Ewers is probably the only guy that will give Freeman pause. This is still a what if. If he wins the NC, no way Texas goes with Arch. What if he goes to the NFL? What if another school offers more?

In the end, I think it’s best we roll with Steve. He’s looked good when given the opportunity and has waited his time here. If Steve doesn’t perform, I think we have 3 capable players waiting in the wings (granted none transfer).

I think they're going with Arch no matter what. Not even if he passed for like, 1200 yards over the next three games. Ewers' days are done in Austin.

We could offer a totally elite class of '24 WR from Tenn who just entered the portal, named Mike Matthews. And we could try to find another dual threat guy. But we'd have to tamper to do it.

This from Tom Loy who is a guy I trust: "Despite the chatter everywhere, because that’s how rumors work, as of this morning Notre Dame maintains that they are not hitting the portal for a quarterback ahead of next season. They love their Quarterback room. Now I’m not confident they all stick around ahead of next season, but the guys that are in that room right now make up a group that they are fired up about. "

On CJ's elbow: "From everyone I’ve talked to on both sides, there aren’t concerns with Carr’s health. Just being over precautious."

First of all Angeli is not Pyne or Buchner (2022) -Tyler never threw over 60%, Pyne not much better..

Angeli has completed 72.2% of his passes. Excelled in his one start and got a convincing win in a bowl game. 10 TDs with 1 INT... CJ Carr has gotten rave reviews from all writers who watched him in spring and summer ball. I do hope one of Kenny and Steve sticks if CJ gets the nod. I think we'll be fine at QB.

It would be a huge strategic mistake to not have an open competition among the existing players on the team for next year. Evers made a million in NIL in high school. He’s had enough. Not the right guy for us

If Ewers leads Texas to the national title and they win will their fans still want Manning?
I think so. If he does they will say they won it in spite of him. Manning is the shiny new toy and a name brand. Important to note that Ewers was a 5 star as well. I don't think Manning will stick around year 3 to be on the bench. But I think Ewers transfers or goes pro.. Manning has more upside, but clearly Sark trusts Ewers more for this year.

Agreed. Sark is managing the situation. Ewers probably is a better QB, or at least a more mature, advanced QB with the mental aspects and defense-reading. But this is it. They'll take their lumps next year if they have to with Arch. And he's the guy next season. It's pretty much set in stone. Hence all the Ewers portal buzz. Even ND's name got thrown around.

They should just play both. Manning runs so if he gets hurt they would have nothing.

That can’t be true because Golson5 said that ND isn’t interested in a QB for 2025 !

It’s not happening because we missed on the portal qbs (whomever they are) that nd went after. That is what the insiders are reporting

Actually ND did put feelers out. Nothing concrete but they did put feelers out and they seem to have decided to stick with the current room. (That from Tom Loy.)

If the ND coaching staff is dumb enough to do that, then that's on them. If this happens they'll lose both Angeli and Minchey, and set the QB room back after they spent the last 2-3 seasons building it up.

What? But he's 1st round talent. How can he slip not only outside the 1st round but outside the first 3-4 rounds.
I agree that Riley Leonard is nowhere close to a Round 1 NFL draft choice. That said, he’s a good CFB QB.
