Rumor is (singer started it) we have a silent ND lean at qb for ‘23, and he’s one of the top guys committed elsewhere. Let the speculation begin.

I want them to get that Pitt commit. Minchey. He looks like a total badass, and I probably would take him over Dante Moore. His arm talent seems about as good as Dante Moore's, maybe even better, and unlike Dante Moore, he seems like a total, perfect character fit for ND. So much so that it seems like he's going to stay loyal to Pitt.

Kenny Minchey is his name. And I remember some talk about maybe offering him months ago, but we never did, presumably because it might queer the deal with Dante Moore. Which was stupid, quite frankly, on ND's part. Surely they had to know that an elite QB like Dante Moore, with NIL exploding by leaps and bounds, was going to ultimately command a top signing bonus. How could they be surprised, even if he was a so-called silent commit, that he would go for the money?

Anyway, all's well would end well if we can somehow flip Minchey.

That would be great if true. We need to get some good news after losing Keeley. A Minchey like QB would be good news. Any idea about when it goes public . For obvious reasons, we can't rely to much on silents.

All singer said was ND coaches feel really good about their chances with a particular top QB in the ‘23 class. This is a recent development. No names were mentioned but it was stated he’s currently committed elsewhere and is one of the top qbs in the class.

Starting rumors gets clicks.

Avery Johnson would be cool too. He seems like a pretty sweet prospect. Raw, but with good tools, kind of like Buchner I suppose, though in his case he really is more of a. run-first type dual-threat QB. But they say he has a good arm. And that would make THREE kids from Kansas in the same recruiting class which is always nice.

Nevertheless Minchey looks special to me. He's finally rated in the top 25 pro-style QBs list, where incredibly he wasn't previously even ranked before this latest update. And I would say of course that was overdue, at least for someone with such arm talent that absolutely pops, and jumps off the screen when you watch his highlights. Everybody sees it, even untrained eyes.....

But if this really is a true rumor with legs, and not just some message board bullshit, I'm guessing it's Avery Johnson. And that would be cool too if it was. We definitely need a QB. You should never reduce yourself to the transfer portal, especially if you're ND, who basically do not really even take transfers, and the transfer portal hardly even applies to ND, so it really shouldn't even be brought up when it comes to ND roster mgt. And even if it did, you would still always want to take a QB out of HS. And on top of that the QB position and depth chart for ND is currently very much in flux and is an unknown quantity. Other than crossing your fingers that Buchner lives up to billing, I don't even know what the future holds at the QB position for ND football. At least if we're serious about wanting to remain stalwart playoff contenders. And finally toss in on top of all that the fact that ND's two most productive QBs of the last decade or so, without whom ND would definitely not be where they are right now today, of course I'm talking about Rees and Ian Book.... there would be absolutely no sound basis or good reason for ND of all programs to pass on a QB in this class, on account of there's nobody out there good enough. Two and three-star afterthought QB prospects often prove to have been very worthwhile players to have recruited and signed, and nobody knows that better than ND....

So we gotta get Kenny Minchey! Time for MF to turn on the charm!

If it's Johnson, I'd be happy with that too. My concern with him though is that he might be more of an athlete than a QB. Similar to Wimbush. Playing in Kansas, there's a lot that he gets away with that he won't be able to get away with at the college level. Sure has a load of potential though.

He did very well at elite 11

Avery Johnson seems like a nice good kid, and a pretty intriguing prospect, but he belongs at K-State. It's perfect for him. I really hope it's Minchey. If anyone, of course, it will probably end up being nothing....

Wrong. He’s a better version of Buchner. More accurate, faster runner.

Johnson is a good player. Hed do well here and we'd be lucky to land him at this point

He's more athletic. He's not more accurate or a better thrower
Watching his jr film, he looks pretty accurate. All throws are very well placed, at least on the one i watched. Buchner looked good on long passes last year, but was horrible on mid-range (where the ints occurred)

He barely threw over 50 percent as a soph in hs. Buchner was a phenom in hs and was throwing darts

You dont put incompletions on hs film

Stats you gave dont sound good, but could be bad receivers or a bad line as well. Looks decent on this video, doesnt say which year - i was assuming jr.

He’s ranked way ahead of Minchey and ahead of both Alabama commits. I’ll trust the analysts that put him at #9.

He improved a lot his jr year. But hes still more of an athlete than QB. High potential though and Id take him anytime

High school stats mean little to nothing when it comes to assessing how good they are. What you're looking for is the talent and physical traits that show the potential. With that said, the arm/passing potential is there, but measuring how good his arm is proves to be difficult for multiple reasons:
1. They use his legs more and rightfully so.
2. He's playing Kansas football. How many of his opponents are going to play D-1 ball?
3. Similar to #2, he's engaged in kids play. He has all day to throw and even when he doesn't, he easily scrambles around and finds an open receiver.

None of this is the fault of Johnson but when assessing talent, it's easier to discern just how good one's potential is when they're at IMG, St. Francis, De La Salle, Mater Dei, Allen HS, etc. Because they're playing amongst the best teams in the state and nation-wide. I'm intrigued with Johnson and hope he comes to ND. But I think his passing ability has a lot of question marks for now, but I won't deny the talent is there.

Avery is the perfect compliment to CJ Carr. Totally diff and far more dynamic player. I still firmly believe cj is the future and he’s an elite first round talent, but AJ is what we need to complement him and push for the starting job. Wait until he watches Buchner running wild and realizes that could be him while KSU is throwing it to nobody receivers against teams that nobody has heard of

Brian Kelly has signed and received a verbal from two outstanding Louisiana HS QB's his first two recruiting classes at LSU.
He signed a lot of good ones here too. Unfortunately none of them really worked out
